Famous for rolling dunes and beautiful shingled houses, the Cape Cod area is a national treasure, full of outdoor activities and family attractions. Located just 7 miles or a 45 minute ferry ride off of Cape Cod on the Massachusetts coast is the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Far less developed than Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard is a pleasant escape from the faster pace of the mainland, a sanctuary where you can leave stress behind.
For over 150 years, Martha’s Vineyard has been a vacation destination. Renowned for its vast variety of beaches, harbors, and bays; stunning nature preserves, vistas and historic sights; and plentiful recreational, culinary, and cultural opportunities. A visit to Martha’s Vineyard is an experience to be savored.
Martha’s Vineyard has miles of pristine beaches, unspoiled open space, and historic seaside towns with charming shops, down to earth people and no glitz. There are no chain stores here. Old fashioned main streets with “real” bookstores and coffee shops are what you find. Penny candy stores and fudge shops. Bait shops where the fishermen will teach you and your kids how to fish.
There are plenty of public, walk-on, free/almost free parking beaches. Oak Bluffs is a mix of shiny game arcades, carousels, and nightlife AND a thriving arts community, with an impressive history. Edgartown and Vineyard Haven are chock full of shopping, dining, and sight seeing nestled within charming old New England seafaring towns. The views at the Aquinnah Cliffs are stunning, and the celebrities are well hidden away from it all in Chilmark. Of course our favorite area is Katama - - wild dunes, nature preserves, flat plains for biking and running - - a remote beach area on the Atlantic Ocean, just 3 miles from “everything” in Edgartown, and just across the bay from the even more remote beaches and fishing of Chappaquiddick Island.
Miles of safe bike paths mean you can let your kids can ride their bikes and explore on their own, without “mom’s taxi”. Older kids can hop the bus in the evening to go to the movies or have an ice cream in town.
Peak season is July and August for the best beach weather. But Spring (April-June) and Fall (September-October) are lovely and less crowded, making for three full and diverse seasons of activities. Martha’s Vineyard is a very special experience, a magical place where you will make memories that will last a lifetime.

Why the Owner Chose Katama, Edgartown, MA, USA:
We work hard and have a busy, active life with our three children. Our first vacation on Martha's Vineyard stunned us with how relaxing and peaceful it was, really allowing us to kick back, but never be bored. Also, the miles of safe bike paths, and sidewalks made it easy to let our kids ride their bikes and run over to friends' houses without getting into the car - - some much needed, old fashioned freedom which we all loved. We had to own a piece of that for ourselves and we were delighted to find this house, a short stroll from the beach, in our favorite neighborhood.
