Beachwalk

  • 5 of 5

I just got back from being here for four days, and it was way more than what I expected. Everything was great and I plan on using this place for future family get togethers. The view is amazing, watching dogs playing on the beach or kite surfers jumping over waves. It was the most fun I've had on vacation. I did do some metal detecting and even found some goodies in the beach!

Not what we expected

  • 3 of 5

I rented this place for seven days, for my mom's 71st birthday. We chose it because it said it was the closest house to the beach and an easy walk. It is very close to the beach, not the closest, and it is an easy walk for someone who is able to walk. The house is on a slight hill, so for my mom who has weak legs she was not able to walk to the beach. She was very disappointed because she was hoping to walk on her own. We ended up having to drive her down and pay $10 to park. Also a surprise.

The house was a nice surprise in that there were three bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. Perfect for the five of us. The kitchen was nice and all appliances worked well except for the BBQ outside. I could only get one burner to work. Not a big deal.

My biggest complaint is that the house is not cleaned very well. Not sure if the owner is aware of this because it is a rental, but someone needs to do a better job of cleaning. The ice machine has black mold around where the ice comes out, and it sometimes is in your ice, there is mildew and dust on the blinds (which I understand from living at the beach ) but it can be cleaned with bleach maybe before a guest arrives so that we don't feel grimy touching it. One of the bedrooms has such a strong mildew smell that you wonder if there is some mold growing somewhere that is not seen. The hole in the wall that is filled with a plastic bag is disgusting. I read it in a previous review and was shocked that it was still there. And it wasn't even cleaned around it, there was a small table put in front of it I think so we might not see it. It definitely looked like a small rodent could come through there, or at least that's what we thought when we saw a small mouse in the house. I also understand that it is a dog friendly house but please get a new loveseat (the smaller of the two couches), the pee stains on it and its pillows is not something we wanted to see. I wouldn't even sit on that couch.

Let me end with saying that Dillon Beach is beautiful. I enjoyed walking on the beach every morning and seeing all the dogs and collecting shells.

Owner's Response: The small hole is being fixed. Ice maker & blinds will be cleaned. BBQ is being checked, but no one else has had a problem & there is a second BBQ there, just in case. Being so close to the ocean does cause a high moisture & nothing can be done for that problem. This house is one of the closest homes to the beach & I can't be responsible for this renters mother's mobility hardship. I have always done a deep cleaning 3 to 4 times per year.

OFF THE BEATEN PATH

Went to this place at the end of June. The house was rustic and comfortable! If you're looking for a quiet, relaxed paced location, this is it! Coming back in October - can't wait!
