Overview

About the property

House - 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s) - 4.5+ Baths - (Sleeps 10)

Luna Azul can accommodate groups of up to 12 (absolute Max) people and has been furnished with families in mind. Facilities were constructed to North American standards for safety and convenience. In addition, maintenance, security and service are provided by a separately housed caretaker. Ask them about fresh fruit from the property! Nearby restaurants and Hotel Punta Islita offer four star dining, spa and golf opportunities.

The location makes this an adventure property. The environment creates an opportunity to indulge across a full spectrum from solitude to elegance to local nightlife at several bars in the area. Rather than retreat to air conditioned isolation, the house is designed for life 'in the breeze' - soaking in the rich tropical sights, sounds and smells inaccessible to those that decline to adjust to equatorial climates. That's not to say comfort is secondary! Shade, pools, outdoor showers, hammocks and fans are strategically maintained to encourage guests to constantly seek interaction with the unique experiences this elevated refuge presents: monkeys howling at sunrise, tree frogs singing at night, birds playing in the trees in the late afternoon shade, raptors, vultures and storks seeking thermals - coming up and right over your head as you relax in the pool ... can't get that stuff in a hotel room!

If surfing is what you're looking for, look no further. Playa Camaronal access requires no river crossings so it's ready to go even during wet season ... 15 minutes from the house. Playa San Miguel can produce phenomenal combo swells. Within a 30 minute drive there are left points, San Onofre style breaks, beach breaks and rock reef breaks easily accessible year round from a comfortable center point. Read the swell over coffee in the morning from this perfect vantage point. Many breaks in the area are yours to explore! Just a beginner? Soft top surfboards and our recommended beach are a sure recipe for success.

There's plenty of space for two families to enjoy lounging by the pool, swinging in hammocks, cooking, swimming, floating and relaxing on top of this comfortable, breeze-swept ridgeline ... away from it all but with assistance at the ready should you need it. A 'jungle' trail has been gently maintained on the property below the house for morning walks and wildlife viewing - guided by onsite staff if desired! A favorite routine is to pack up coolers full of goodies and sand chairs, head to one of the local beaches for a morning surf/swim then return to the pool, shade and breeze for the afternoon. Simple, adventurous, satisfying.

Wide Range of Beach Opportunities: Fantastic family surf adventures waiting for those ready to venture out to the broad range of beaches within 30 minutes drive of the house. Playa Coyote has a gentle sloping, sheltered beach that is great for whitewash adventures and the inexperienced. Grab one of the soft-top surfboards at the house and get pics of the kids on their first stand-up! Playa San Miguel has a more challenging wave and great beach play family-style. This is our go-to beach for surf, coolers of beer, fresh fruit and lazy mornings in the shade of coco palms while the tide gets just right for a paddle out. Smaller surf is beginner friendly, sizeable combo swells can challenge any surfing level. Playa Camaronal is a fantastic break that can hold pretty good size. Limited shade and heavily sloped beach make this primarily a surfer's beach. There are shade opportunities and a turtle sanctuary for those not surfing - just ask and we'll tell you how to dial up a memorable family day at any beach.

Food!: The convenience of breakfast at your own pace and time is invaluable. The morning light playing on the estuary below is a constant distraction. Local groceries in Pueblo Nuevo, Bejuco, Corrozalito, San Francisco de Coyote mean fresh produce and provisions for any level of culinary activity desired. Very convenient to stop and grab a cool drink and any items you need on the way home from the beaches. Don't feel like cooking? A wide range of dining experiences are available within 15 minutes from the house - breakfast lunch or dinner. Some guests have even arranged for chef services at the house.

Come enjoy 'El Campo' - the countryside , where Ticos come to relax during their holidays. You'll leave feeling refreshed and amazed at how immersion in local environment and culture can invigorate the soul!

About Luna Azul Properties

While Southern California has great climate, we wanted to find a place where the surf was warm year round ... and crowds don't exist!

Why Luna Azul Properties chose Guanacaste

After many years of trips to surf with Tico friends, we decided to explore properties in the areas we enjoyed the most ... away from crowded line ups and tourism crowds. This area's gentle ranching culture, fabulous beaches, predictable surf and beautiful weather lured us. The view and steady breezes of this ridgetop property sealed the deal.

What makes this villa unique

Many feel they want to stay 'on the beach' when seeking tropical relaxation. We've found that the local beaches are best enjoyed mornings and evenings with escape to our unique ridge top siesta nest. A refreshing beverage, a dip in the pool, rich mid day breezes and exclusive privacy can make that evening walk on the beach before dinner even more enjoyable!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have just returned from 2 weeks at Luna azul and will definitely be back! We have rented homes all over the world and this is truly a very special home in a gorgeous location. Our family loved the extremely remote and private setting, the empty beaches and surf and the endless sunshine. You really have a gem in Luna azul.

Relax and experience the richness of Guanacaste in your own private Villa. There's good reason this area is a "Blue Zone" known for happiness and longevity. Wake up each day to breathtaking views of the ocean from your bed while the monkeys and the birds chatter with the sounds of the surf in the background. This rustic area of the Nicoya Peninsula offers a very friendly ranching community with many pristine beaches, a wide range of local restaurants, and a relaxed tropical lifestyle. Enjoy the beaches, points or horseback riding then retreat to an ultra-private oasis and a dip in the pool. If you must, stay in touch with home by tapping into 3G WiFi for skype or email - poolside! Use your rebtel.com account for dirt cheap local and international VoIP calls from your WiFi connected cell phone.

Designed for comfort and convenience, Luna Azul boasts 3 bedrooms with 4 private bathrooms, a fully provisioned kitchen with a gas BBQ and an infinity edge pool with a swim up bar. The most unique benefit of your stay is the spectacular, private view from every location on the property.

Other Activities: Local Carnival, Rodeo, Motocross, kayaking, bio-tours, seasonal events. A Scarlet Macaw sanctuary has established feeding times - a must see. A 10 minute drive to Islita Airport allows you to meet a gyrocopter for an unbelievable air tour of local area. 20 minute tour circles the house, skirts along the beaches to Punta Coyote and climbs up for whale-watching on the way back to the airport ... make sure you have a wrist strap for that camera!

Hotel Punta Islita is very accommodating to local residences whenever the hotel is not full. Just a call to the reservations desk sets you up for a round of golf in a gorgeous tropical setting while your spouse enjoys spa privileges. That same call can lead to dinner reservations, afternoon drinks at the bar ... Many families have planned weddings at the hotel while some guests stay at Luna Azul ... resort convenience and Luna Azul privacy!

Beautiful House for Rest, Seclusion

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed an amazing and restful week at Luna Azul! Everything about this property was impressive, especially considering its location off the beaten path.

Mike was very responsive with information regarding the property, the country, local beaches (Playa San Miguel was our favorite), restaurants, and other activities.

Without a doubt the caretaker, Antonio, and his family was the most pleasant surprise. They were such gracious hosts! We'd love to return, simply to spend more time with our new friends.

If you enjoy peace and quiet, watersports, hammock siestas, and poolside dinner, you'll love a stay at Luna Azul.

Best house we've ever rented!

  • 5 of 5

When we got there, we never thought it was going to be the best house we've ever rented, I mean THAT VIEW! You can see the ocean almost from every room of the house! No people around, just nature! 100% Private and relaxing.

The house has everything you need for cooking and sleeping. Fully equipped!

I'm pretty sure you will enjoy the awesome view, sun, fresh air and birds songs, not to forget the most beautiful SUNSET you've ever seen!

This house is perfect for people who are looking for a private and relaxing getaway, surrounded by nature and family or friends.

You are going to feel like in paradise!

Thanks Mike, Juan and Allan for sharing your house with us! We are definitely coming back!

And for all of you reading this comment from another country and planning to travel to Costa Rica, I guarantee you it would be better than any 5 star hotel ; )

Outstanding commodities with an unbeatable view!

  • 5 of 5

From the very beginning the guests Mike and Alan were super helpful and attentive. They kindly followed up on our questions and made sure we had everything clear and ready before we arrived to the property.

Once at Luna Azul we were absolutely impressed by both the house and the view - the comfort of the rooms, the spaces to chill and hang out with your family or friends, the amplitude of the second floor deck, the perfectly setup kitchen with everything you need to make yourself at home.. it is a top property for a comfortable vacation and I would definitively recommend anyone to extend your stay for a few days to enjoy this place at its fullest!

If you are looking for a nice retreat from the crowds with a very exclusive view of the Nandayure Pampa and coast - this is the right place!

There are a lot of nearby beaches surrounded by nature and the local towns have small markets to refill in case you run out of anything - only about 20 minutes drive from the house. Perfect location to have multiple choices for entertainment and needs.

The property caretaker Antonio was super Pura Vida - he kindly came by everyday to make sure we had all we needed and keep things tidy, but also provided a lot of useful tips and recommendations about the area, places to go, places to eat and what to do. He even helped us coordinate some fresh fish for our New Year's dinner - it was amazing to count on him!

Thank you for your kindness and for letting us enjoy such a beautiful house and experience.

What a Fantastic Place

  • 5 of 5

So glad we chose this fantastic property to spend our last two weeks in Costa at. The other properties (3) had wonderful views and provided a serene and tranquil environment but none matched that of Luna Azul! The view is magical; mountains surround you and a fantastic vista with a palm lined shore greet you every morning with the amazing colors of the sunrise sky, and even in July the sunsets lit a fire in the sky with brilliant colors. So glad the owners saw the special beauty of this location and decided to build a lovely home that they're willing to share with visitors like us! To top it all off, they found a jewel of a caretaker in Antonio and his family. They went above and beyond in making our stay enjoyable! If you are looking for a private paradise you will find it at Luna Azul!

Would go back!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (2 young girls, grandma, husband and wife) just returned from a wonderful week at Luna Azul. Stunning views of the coast and such a great, remote location (highly recommend 4 wheel vehicle for the dirt roads). We enjoyed exploring a different beach each day. Also made it to the local coffee shop, horseback riding, butterfly farm and macaw reserve. Antonio's family was lovely and our girls enjoyed playing with their daughter and dog. The pool was perfect as were the hammocks. We highly recommend the house and the location if you are looking to get away from crowds. Just keep in mind that you are in nature-so you might see some insects, bugs and of course monkeys!

Our second stay -- gets better each time!

  • 5 of 5

After staying for only 3 nights 2 years ago, we returned to this wonderful villa on the hill for a full week in January 2016. The home is spacious, the kitchen well-equipped, and the views are beyond compare. Every evening we floated in the private pool watching the beautiful sunsets over the Pacific. The owners are great and very easy to work with and once on site Antonio and his family (the caretakers) are wonderful people and always available to help. Great memories are made here. Highly recommended.
