North Conway our get away in the mountains Location: North Conway, White Mountains, New Hampshire, USA (Walk, Bike, or Ski Through the Woods To Echo Lake State Park)

Accommodations: House -3 Bedrooms - 2 Bath - (Sleeps up to 5)

Knowing how much we love nature, I thought the decision to have a vacation get-away was going to be easy, but I was wrong. Little did I know that we had to see 100,000 houses and it was going to take a million years to find the “the right place”. Being a real estate broker for 20 years, (my husband) you can only imagine how picky he was when it came to purchasing our vacation get away. Me, I just wanted a small, very secluded home in the mountains, a place I could just go to enjoy a simple walk, read a book, have a bon fire with the family and go for a run to a close by river or lake and jump for a swim. A place for the entire family or a place just for me when I’m ready for a break. By the way………we can all use a small break!

When we first walked into what was to become our new get-away in North Conway, New Hampshire, the amazing beautiful views of mount Moat literally took our breath away! We realized that right from our back yard there was a beautiful trail, where we could walk, bike, run, snow shoe, or cross country ski through a beautiful mature forest along Elm Brook to the beach and picnic area at Echo Lake and Echo Lake State Park. At that very moment, we knew that the home we were about to see inside was already ours.

So, we invite you to come and check it out, we can assure you that if you are on your honeymoon, wish to recapture the romance in your relationship, have a date or just want to experience the awesome beauty and serenity of this 'get away in the mountains' by yourself, with your family, or friends, this is the ideal home for you when vacationing in the amazing North Conway, New Hampshire.

Imagine yourself walking, running, biking or ski to Echo Lake State Park and the trail network around Cathedral Ledge and White Horse Ledge without ever getting in your car. Return to a tranquil and comfortable vacation retreat, a full well equipped kitchen, a very nice and comfortable new furniture, outdoor fire pit, charcoal grill, and indoor masonry wood fireplace.

This home is located at the end of a very private street, in an extremely peaceful setting, but yet only minutes away from all the goodies that North Conway and Mount Washington Valley has to offer. All the furniture in the home including the beds ARE NEW! Views of the Moat Mountain range in full splendor from your living room, and dining room. Cozy up to the fireplace after cooking a scrumptious meal or go out in the backyard and make a bon fire or go out and enjoy dinner in one of many wonderful restaurants in the area.

Walk out your back door through a mature forest along the Elm Brook Trail for 10 minutes to the beach on Echo Lake, or take a run (.8 miles to Echo Lake, plus 1.2 miles if you run around the lake)

For downhill ski lovers there are Bretton Woods, Cranmore, Attitash, Black mountain, Shawnee Peak and Wildcat within 10 to 20 minutes away (driving). Snow-shoeing, lots of cross-country trails, snowmobiling, ice skating, sleigh rides, ice climbing, snowboarding, sledding, and tubing. Storyland it's just minutes away. Kancamangus scenic highway will take your breath away and it's just minutes away from the house. There is just soooo much to experience when you come to this amazing place.

A short 5-minute drive to North Conway Village, where there are the tax free shopping outlets, seasonal events every weekend, restaurants, entertainment of all sorts including live music and a playhouse, there is also a live theater.

Nearby there are four seasons of recreational activities like horseback riding, mountain climbing, rock climbing on White Horse Ledge, mountain biking along the extensive trail network behind the house, kayak and canoe along the Saco River, cross country or downhill skiing and snow boarding, snowmobiling, skating parks. We will just leave it up to you.... so much to do, or simply do nothing and enjoy the tranquility of mother nature.

. 5 mile from the turnoff to Cathedral Ledge on West Side Rd., Bartlett. 200 yards of granite terraces. An easy .5-mile walk in takes you to cascading falls, waterspouts and granite basins along Lucy Brook.

Beside Carter Notch Road, off Rt. 16A near the center of Jackson Village. Very accessible, these roadside falls are popular for swimming, picnics, sunbathing - even weddings. The falls are created by the rushing waters of the Wildcat River, the first federally designated 'Wild and Scenic River' in New Hampshire.

On the Kancamagus Highway. Lower Falls is 7 miles west of Conway, while Rocky Gorge is 2 miles further on and requires a .1 mile Con way walk in. Lower Falls is right on the Kancamagus, and is a busy spot on hot summer days. It has pools, small sandy beaches, picnic tables, parking and changing rooms. Rocky gorge has picnic tables, drinking water and parking; swimming prohibited in the Gorge, but

you can take a dip in the pools above the falls. Sabbaday Falls is located 3.5 miles west of where Bear Notch Road joins the Kancamagus. You can't swim here, but the 25 ft. falls' beauty is well worth the easy .3 mile hike in.

It's the third time I stay in this house, and I love it. The house is very cozy, confortable, well equiped, in a quiet and beautiful place, well located close to scenic roads, trails, outlet, supermarket and all. I intend to go back again, and I recomend.

We enjoyed our stay and had everything we needed for our family of 5.

Tucked away off of the beaten path, this house was a little difficult to find but worth the wait. We also wish we had a little direction for the trail behind the home. The trail was beautiful and we enjoyed our adventure but would have preferred a little guidance as to the best route to get to Echo Lake. We stumbled upon the 9 hole golf course which is beautiful and open to the public. Next time we would like to bring mountain bikes and golf clubs. Delaney's resturaunt was great though the wait was long. We did stop into rhe Stonehurst Manor for an excellent matgarita and enjoyed the atmosphere there as well.

Keep looking

I wish it were better.

I would give this rental 2.5 stars if I could. To be fair, this is a lovely home. It has a clean and well-equipped kitchen, a decent dining room and a quaint living room with a nice fireplace. It is nicely decorated. It has decent WIFI with a moderately fast cable connection. It is in a good location close to Echo Lake, Diana's Baths and Cathedral Ledge.

Upon arriving we were greeted with an old electrical panel and electric heat registers on the deck. The first step up to the deck was way too high and it looked like a step was missing. The yard was a mess. There was a large pile of trash in the back and the yard didn't look like it had seen a mower or leaf blower in years. The rental tells you how it has a nice view of the mountains from your living room which may be true in the winter, but not true in the summer. There is no view other than the trees on the other side of the driveway. We were hoping to have a nice glass of wine enjoying the views followed by a dinner on the deck. Well, part of the trash in the backyard was a broken glass table (plenty of broken glass in the driveway and yard). I guess we were supposed to bring our own patio furniture. There were 6 lovely chairs sitting in the driveway, but they were covered with what looked like bird crap which the owner said was tree sap. The grill on the deck was decent, but pretty messy and no igniter or grill brush. There is a cleaning fee (which we paid up front) only to find on arrival, wet laundry in the washer and laundry in the dryer and the fridge had expired cheese from 2014 and a container of mystery meat in the freezer.

The first few days we were pretty hot and humid. The house has no AC (understandable being in the mountains), no ceiling fans (not so understandable) and no box fans. Not fun. The ad says it has all new mattresses and new furniture. The mattresses were beyond bad. My back hurt for a week after our stay. The other beds were bad as well. The master bedroom is small and very little room to navigate in the middle of the night (you have been warned). You will need to use the pull out mattress from the uncomfortable sectional to sleep 5.

This house is probably better in the winter when the yard is covered with snow and some leaves are off the trees and you can see some of the lovely views. This seems like an occasional vacation home and rental that is being neglected. A little attention to detail would go a long way.

Owner's Response: The folks before had accidentally broke the table. We did not charge them for it but did not have time to replace it. Our housekeeper has been replaced with a wonderful housekeeper and we had the yard cleaned up the week after you left. We have never had complaints about the beds... ever, but you did stay on an unusually hot and humid week and I'm sure no matter where you were you would have been uncomfortable without AC.

What a find!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage last week with friends and it was wonderful. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well stocked with more than you would expect, ie: wraps & paper towels, dish soap, etc. Excellent Internet service. Beautiful paths through woods in back of home. We would certainly return. We were there during hurricane Irene, owners called to check on us. A great few days!
