About Constance (Connie) Hartke

We live in Northern Virginia. Paul owns a real estate company and I run our online real estate school and property manage our 2 cabins in the Smokies. We visit 3-4 times a year and our excellent maintenance & housekeeping crew keep the cabin in great shape. Connie always has one eye on our cabins in the Smokies!

Constance (Connie) Hartke purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Constance (Connie) Hartke chose East

Advantages of our location: *20 or so minutes from Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Dollywood but away from all that traffic. *Incredible panoramic views on both sides (ridge sticks out from Cove Mountain – sunrise on one side & sunset on the other). Locals tells us one of if not the best views anywhere. *Minutes to get into the Park via Wears Valley entrance, so close to Cades Cove. *Can hike from cabins up into the Park. *Swimming pool shared by only 8 cabins. *Not a cookie cutter resort.

What makes this cabin unique

Very private without being totally secluded. Minutes from a 'secret' entrance into the National Park. Constantly changing scenery from our perch on a flat ridge that juts out from Cove Mountain and overlooks Wears Valley and the surrounding mountains. You can hike 1,000' up to the top of Cove Mountain, & then you are in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Turn right for trail to the old fire tower, left for 8 mile hike to Sugarlands Visitors Center, or straight ahead (and down) a mile to old growth forest. Continue on to Laurel Falls!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your place is beautiful. I have to admit the first time I drove up the mountain, in the rain, I was wishing I had worn Depends about half way up. Mom was terrified and kept telling me the cabin couldn't possibly be all the way on the top of the mountain. Once the fog lifted and the sun came out the view was incredible and worth the drive. The second time up was a piece of cake because we knew we were headed in the right direction. We had a great time and will definitely stay there again if we go back to Tennessee. The handicapped shower and commode made my Mom's life much easier. She couldn't have done if for two weeks without it.

{owner's comment - the steep drive at the end is less than a mile on a 2 lane paved road, but it feels longer the first time for sure!!}

Perfect couple's getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved our stay at Eagle's view! The view was magnificent, and we have stayed at quite a few cabins in the area. We liked that it was a little off the beaten path, it was so peaceful! We did not leave the cabin one day out of our week long stay because we simply enjoyed the serenity and relaxation of it, our dogs enjoyed it as well! We explored the secret entrance to the National Park and what an adventure it was in the snow and mud, we made it to the old shot tower! We hope to come back!!!

Owner's Response: We loved having you! Thank you for sending the photo - it was excellent and shows the environment monitoring equipment at the top of the tower. All can see it at our Facebook Page - EaglesViewCabin.

OMG - what a view !!

  • 4 of 5

Our handicapped son and his wife were with us on our recent vacation trip to the Pigeon Forge area. This cabin was perfect for a person confined to a wheelchair. Our trip was saved by this cabin because we could find no other rental that would work for a wheelchair bound person. Our son was thrilled with this cabin and we all had a wonderful time. The last mile up to the cabin is a real nail biter but the facility was worth the trek up the mountain.

We went there in April. The view was breath taking. My mother was disabled and the cabin was handicapped accessible. It was very easy for my mom to get around in the cabin.. the ramp to the cabin helped a lot.. loved the jacuzzi.. it was very pet friendly.. Connie was very nice and helpful.. we loved everything about our stay... thank u for an awesome visit!!!

Road is horrible

  • 3 of 5

We have an older handicap van and the road to the cabin was SCARY! That was the only down fall I had. Directions to the cabin were not the best and we found when leaving that we weren't far at all from the parkway. What a bummer! There isn't a lot of grass around the cabin and when we walked, it was all hillside and concrete. The pool table was great and we had a good time playing pool.

Owner's Response: We are so glad your family enjoyed playing pool (billiards) with those wonderful views out the big windows to the east and west. You are right about the road being scary the first time! It’s true that to get these views you have to make a climb! Many families consider the drive up the first adventure of their trip! We are lucky that it is less than a mile that is steep and curvy and that there is enough room for 2 cars to pass on this paved road. As the owners of this wheelchair accessible cabin, we are always close by phone or email to answer any concerns - such as parking a big van, where to walk a big dog, or anything else. Guests should never hesitate to call, text or email. We’re only 3 miles off the main road, and we send all our guests a short page of directions to follow to get up the mountain. As the email says that Connie mails to guests a week before their stay: “Please follow my directions and not your cell phone GPS on arrival day - you can explore the mountain another time but I'd like to get you directly to the cabin the first time.”
