Great cottage Great location
We wanted a cottage in a rural setting and Anne's cottage was perfect. Excellent hiking, golf at Connemara, fantastic scenery and great pubs filled with fantastic people from the area who made us feel right at home immediately
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. I am delighted that you really enjoyed your stay in my cottage and especially in Cleggan. Hopefully you will get to visit again in the future.
Our Favorite Place in Ireland
Our stay at the Station House in Cleggan was absolutely great. We have stayed there every Fall for the past 9 years as it meets all of our needs for an enjoyable vacation. The cottage is very clean and comfortable and is fitted out with everything that we needed for a great vacation. We always arrive to find milk in the fridge and jam and bread to help begin our stay. Colm, Anne's brother, always makes sure that we have enough turf so that we can enjoy a cozy peat fire in the evenings.
Waking up each morning and seeing the sea and the 12 Bens mountain range in the background in a scene we have found no where else in our travels. We were able to travel a short distance to Kylemore Abby and other must-see locations such as the fjord at Leanane, Westport, Cong, Knock and the isle of Inishboffin. It is just a short ferry ride from Cleggan Harbor. The area surrounding Cleggan is one of the last "blanket bogs" in Ireland.
We always enjoy looking at the plants that grow only there. We also the sheep that roam the roads. It is a short walk for the Station House to the village. We enjoy eating in the pubs and listen fo the locals play Irish music. There was always a variety of fresh sea food on the menus which come straight off the local boats. The hiking was great and the pony-trekking on the local beaches was a lot of fun.
We would highly recommend staying at the Station House in Cleggan. We hope to continue to vacation there for many years to come.
Our Irish home away from home.
We very much enjoyed staying at the Station House in Cleggan. For the past several years it has been our "home away from home." It is extremely comfortable and we love visiting nearby Kylemore Abbey, as well as Cong, Westport and Inishboffin Island. At night we enjoy the short walk to the village to eat fresh fish and enjoy chatting with the locals.
It is great to wake up in the morning and see the ocean and mountains. Sitting by the peat fire after dinner is a great way to spend an evening. The cottage is fitted out with all the modern amenities to make our stay even more enjoyable. After many years of traveling to Ireland the Station House Cottage has become our vacation destination. We would highly recommend this cottage as a great place to spend your vacation in Connemara.
Magnificent home base in Connemara
Of all the places my family and I stayed in the west of Ireland, and we stayed in many beautiful places, the Station House was our favorite. It was even better than the pictures portrayed, and it was utterly perfect. The house is beautifully decorated with prints from the National Museum of Ireland, and we especially enjoyed so much the neighbors who were all very friendly and helpful. The location could not be better for exploring and hiking in Connemara, only minutes from the entrance to the National Park, Kylemore Abbey, and the ferry to Inishbofin. And it's a short drive to Clifden, Lenaun, and even Westport. We only could stay 9 nine days, but I wanted to stay for good. Thank you to Anne and Colm, who allowed us share their wonderful house.
The perfect "Get away from it all" holiday
This cottage provides the perfect location for a holiday to get away from the stresses of a modern family life. We must have visited 10 beaches in 14 days and barely saw another soul. The location (5 mins walk from Cleggan village shop, fish and chip shop and pubs) was ideal and being only 15 mins drive from Clifden and it's larger shops and restaurants was fantastic. The cottage itself was clean and had excellent facilities in good order. The welcome grocery pack was indeed very welcome after our long journey and the neighbours were friendly and helpful with advice on day trips and the best beaches. We would recommend this property highly.
Cottage at Cleggan - Perfect Destination
We are five Australians from Brisbane Australia who discovered details of Anne Cosgrove's lovely cottage in Cleggan on this web site. The fact that our surname is Cosgrove too only increased our curiosity. We loved the photos on the web site as the home looked as pretty as a picture and the surrounding land and seascape just captivated us. We found contact easy to make with the owner via the site amd email and every one of our questions was answered promptly and in full. We found it easy to make the deposit and final payment on line with the owner's help. On arrival, we were even more delighted - the key was just where we agreed it would be, the cottage was beautifully appointed with modern appliances, very clean and well maintained and extremely comfortable. The precious family mementos complemented the homely ambience and the flowers growing at the front door and the herbs outside the kitchen were very special. Our welcome pack included some local produce and the owner's brother who lives locally called in to see that we arrived safely and that we were comfortable. The peat fire was beautiful and a delight to warm ourselves by after returning from walks or the pub in the evening; the beds very comfortable; the big dining table at which we enjoyed many cups of tea from the fine china cups was just like home, and a huge bath tub to soak in was just heaven. The cows and their calves in the adjacent fields were a picture; the fishing boats bringing in fresh catch in the harbour and the beautiful drives and walks across causeways and along beaches were perfect for our holiday. The little village and the pub and shops met all of our needs, and the owner kindly shared local information about the best spots to eat, visit, shop, sight see and explore in the county. Every local we met was friendly and we miss our time there now we are back in Australia. We have many beautiful photos and stories to share with our friends and family about our stay and they are as keen as we are to visit again. We will return and take other friends and family with us. Thank you to Anne and Colm for making our month long trip to Ireland so special. We had been on the road for a while having come through Cork and Kerry, and it was wonderful to put down some roots for a few days in County Galway and relax. We were able to wash, cook, relax, renew and regroup before heading off to Belfast. We will stay longer next time as Cleggan was a perfect vantage point to explore from. The Aussies.
