Great stay but a few things to consider
This house is in a great location, close to an outdoor mall and 5th Avenue. It is currently on the market and we were asked if prospective buyers could walk through and take a look while we there. We agreed but it’s good to know that this house is actually for sale at the moment, if you are considering staying here. The house has a pool in the front yard - which is how it is for all the houses in Playa. The pool was very clean and refreshing in the extreme heat (103F). We got use to folks walking past while we swam. The house is air conditioned in all bedrooms and in the downstairs family area - an absolute god send. However, even with careful use and staying in other cities over two weeks, we were still over the allotted electricity use and needed to pay an extra $170 US at check-out. I’m sure it would have been a lot more if we hadn’t ventured off to Merida and Viadolid for a few days. There are ants in the kitchen, no matter how clean we kept it. The property manager suggested using bug spray, which didn’t really work for the ants in the kitchen. We didn’t experience this in the other two rental houses we stayed in at Merida and Viadolid. There is also an issue with the bathroom door downstairs, as well as one of the bedroom doors upstairs, where the door is too big and needs to be scraped across the floor in order to be opened and closed. The air conditioner in the main bedroom had a strange odor after being left on at times. We let the property manager know so she can fix these issues for the next person. The bedroom with 2 twin beds were very hard and uncomfortable for my 10 and 13 yr old boys. None of the bedrooms have block-out curtains, just sheer curtains, so be prepared to have light coming into your room in the mornings and the possibility of folks walking past being able to see into your rooms. The property manager helped us to get our money back from a time-share scam we got sucked into at Cancun airport. She told us not to go to the “free breakfast” and instead go to the airport when we leave and ask for our deposit back. We had someone help at check in and then he showed me where to get my time-share deposit back, no questions asked. I hope this might help someone who got sucked into a Timeshare scam, like we did. The noise system on the tv wasn’t that great but it was nice to have access to Netflix. No salt, pepper or sugar is provided, presumably due to ants. A very small amount of detergent and toilet paper is provided.
Not a bad place to stay. If you're picky, it is. A few things need to be replaced in the kitchen. Utensils were so worn the plastic was crumbling in our food. Coffee maker doesnt fit carafe. The oven/stove needs to be replaced or serviced..only 2 nobs to control 6 burners and the oven.. No cupboards in kitchen like pics, so no place to put groceries except the counter that ants will attack. Make sure no dishes or spills are left. They pile in from the kitchen sink window. No TVs in room like pics. But still have the tv stands and the cable wires in the rooms that did have TVs. Many ants everywhere and spiders in bathroom ceilings. Even had a run in with a giant scorpion the last night. Constant worry about power usage made me hesitant about using the a/c unit enough to be constantly comfortable. We had to suffer some hot daytime hours inside to compensate for using the a/c all night so we could sleep comfortably.
The hot water never worked after day 1. We didn't fuss about it because cold showers were great relief after hot sweaty outings. I never called about it, but I'm sure Jesse would've been on top of it if I did. Lastly, we were told the Government was doing some kind of power and water work because our last morning we had a brief power outage. The power only came back in smaller doses. After that, we had very low power A/C units, dim lights, no wifi, and the TV never worked after that. I think the power surge blew something. The meter wasn't even on anymore. Not even sure how much power we used yet. This is not the owners or managements fault. Maybe need some surge protectors installed though. Jesse was great and would've done anything for us but our phones were too incompatible.. this is not her fault. She was very helpful and friendly. Overall the cheap price makes it worth it. Large bedrooms and plenty of room throughout for our family of 7.
We all slept very well in the comfortable beds.
Wonderful week in Paradise!
Casa Katarina was a great place for our party of 8. The house and beds were comfortable. We were literally just around the corner from 5th Ave. Lots of shops and wonderful restaurants. Just a few minutes walk to the ocean. We all left wanting more and we cherish our time and memories.
Great location, beautiful home!
Casa Katarina was amazing. The location is a short walk to the beach and downtown playa in a safe gated community. We enjoyed our stay and would come back again.
Amazing, beautiful, safe, convenient and central
My family of 5 had an amazing time in Casa Katarina. The pool is gorgeous and perfect to splash around in. The kitchen is modern and fully ready to cook for a family. The beds are comfortable and clean. The management company is very helpful and easy to work with. The owner is amazing and very responsive to any questions or needs. Casa Katarina is central to all the best activities in the area. It is a very short walk to a semi-private beach, the ferry to Cozumel, tons of shopping and great restaurants. We were close to Xcaret, Xenses and Xplor- all of which exceeded any expectations I had. We were close enough to go to Akumal for the day and really relax and snorkel.
Our stay at Casa Katarina was amazing! We will stay here again when we return to the Yucatán peninsula. I highly recommend Casa Katarina to anyone looking for the best vacation of their life!
Love the location, a few steps from the beach and 5th Ave! Close to the mall and restaurants. The house is very spacious and the pool is lovely.
