About Jack Ballo
I’m a documentary filmmaker and writer. I also teach a filmmaking course. My wife, Barbara and I spend our time back and forth between the NJ suburbs and the Catskill Mountains. We used to live in the house full time. Our daughter went to high school here in Andes. We’ve worked hard to make sure that every detail is covered in making the house a great vacation memory for all of our guests. Whether you love nature, hiking, the arts, music, reading a book or writing one, you’ll enjoy our peaceful place in the mountains!

Very clean and charming place
The host was super accommodating and such a nice guy!!
love this place, you need to stay here
This rental is everything it said it would be. If you are looking for a private quiet(except for the frogs) location this is it. Home is super clean with no one in site. Quick rides to waterfalls, lakes hiking and we did this cool peddle train car ride which was awesome. Home has a bbq, a fire pit and of course the pond and stream to relax. Owner was very responsive when we were looking for the right place for us. We will definitely be back to recharge without our phones again. Great spot!
Storybook cute property, really nice house and owner
We had a really nice week here! The property is insanely picturesque — lovely stream (refreshing for feet too!), a pond full of frogs and some fish — which delighted our two kids to no end — and a great area for sitting, grilling or just relaxing outside. The inside was nice too, though we spent less time there. Fans in the bedrooms were handy, we appreciated the DISH tv on the rainy day and the kitchen, bathroom, etc had everything we needed. Really nice, informative owner whose guide gave us some great ideas for enjoying the area. We’d definitely go back!
Nice cottage, Andes is a great town
We spent a long weekend at the cottage. Very relaxing and enjoyable.
Jack is a great host
This mountain home has nice amenities and I enjoy using the barbecue.
Best and nice place for relax
Andes is a vibrant hamlet known for family farms with locally owned and operated shops and restaurants. It feels set back in time, life as it used to be: clean air, fresh food, beautiful vistas, a warm, welcoming community without any chain stores, busy roads or pollution. Whether you’re browsing antiques, exploring local galleries, or searching for treasures at a local boutique, Main Street in Andes is full of great surprises. Besides all the attractions and things-to-do in Andes and the surrounding towns, The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is a little over an hour drive, it's 45 minutes to Woodstock and 20 minutes to get to Belleayre Mountain Beach and Ski Lodge.
