About Beverly Collins

I grew up on the island of Galveston, Texas. My dad is a retired longshoreman and my mom spent much of her time keeping me and my siblings in line. I went on to earn a Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and i live and practice in Philadelphia, Pa. I love to play basketball and electric bass.

Beverly Collins purchased this condo in 2005

Why Beverly Collins chose Hunter

I bought this condo from my sister. She and her husband bought the property in 1995. She mentioned that she wanted to sell it and buy another condo being built at the time at Hunter. I knew it was great because my sister is awesome and she would not be involved with anything not worthwhile. I am so happy she sold it to me.

What makes this condo unique

When my wife and i went to Hunter to see the condo that my sister spoke about for years, we just wished that we had come up years earlier. It is an excellent get-a-away, the air is so fresh and the people are sooo friendly. I could easily live there someday.

Hunter mountain is an excellent 'get away' location for families, friends, couples, skiers and non-skiers. Hunter mountain is New York's premier winter resort, with luxury mountainside accommodations, sparkling terrain and some of the best snow conditions on the east coast. It is also the largest ski slope closest to New York City. The area also includes downhill and cross-country skiing, ice climbing, snow boarding and other winter activities. There are summer attractions that include a swimming at Dolans lake (in walking distance) with life guards, tennis, horseback riding, fishing, boating, biking, antiquing, shopping, house touring, and golfing. You can also just relax year-round. A big attraction is the people you meet during your stay. Many will become new friends and associates. The people are warm and friendly.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

The condo was very clean and looked just like the pictures. The beds were comfortable, all of the appliances worked properly and the stay was home away from home.

We were able to walk to the mountain, the view from the condo is beautiful.

It is located near a theater and several restaurants including one that is located on the property. We walked over had dinner and the food was great, along with reasonable prices.

I will stay here again and recommend friends and family to stay in this unit. It is very neat, clean and convenient to all of the attractions at Hunter.

Great stay at Hunter

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay for a quiet getaway in the summer! The owner was very friendly and there were no problems. The condo was right on the mountain and was in a quiet and peaceful area. Great place to stay if you're looking to go ziplining, hiking, canoeing, golfing, etc. The condo was clean, fully furnished as described in the ad and there were no problems. Would recommend and would definitely go back!

Owner's Response: Wow! What a pleasant surprise. This was the first stay at our condo for this couple. It is refreshing to get a fresh perspective on our condo and our customer service. Well, it's back to work to try to do things even better. This review says that we are headed in the right direction.

Great Hunter Condo

  • 5 of 5

I have now stayed at this condo the last 2 winters and love it. My husband and I are big fans of the owners. Winston and Beverly. When we arrive, it is always very clean, with fully stocked paper supplies, etc. Throughout the season, they are available to help with any questions. The condo is very close to the mountain and a short walk with our skis. When we have guests over, they always comment on how nice the condo is, the comfortable living room furniture, and the cozy fireplace. After a great day of skiing, we like to relax at the condo, log onto the wireless internet, and cook a nice dinner. Looking forward to next winter!

Owner's Response: Beverly and I really appreciate Julie's kind review. I think her comments reflect the great communication we have had over the past 2 years. We were communicating in the middle of her wedding plans:) She keeps us apprised and we always seek to promptly respond to her feedback. We view them as co-owners of the condo; so we pay close attention to ensure their comfort and satisfaction. When she and her husband are happy, we are happy. We look forward to sharing the condo with them for many winters to come. Thank you.

Great Spot- too bad

  • 2 of 5

We have enjoyed this condo in the past and were remiss in not mentioning the bed during our last stay prior to this one. This stay was terrible. The bed was not only hard as rock it was "made" with twin sheets? The stove was FILTHY, the bathroom floor was dirty, the washing machine did not drain and we needed to immediately go the store for toilet paper. The condo needs an upgrade -closet doors off the tracks, dead light bulbs etc. . . . I wish owners would take this seriously. I do not expect the Waldorf Astoria at the prices paid however, cleanliness is a must and general MAINTENANCE is what would keep guest coming back. The stars rating are based purely on location. We were so disappointed on our anxiously awaited mountain get away

Owner's Response: As soon as i received the above information in the form of an email, I immediately dispatched my cleaning person to the condo. As she walked through the property, she spoke with me by phone. I acknowledge the washing machine is not draining properly and a new combo washer/dryer in on order. Some light bulbs went out and were immediately replaced. However, the stove was not filthy and had not been used; the sheets were fitted; and ample toilet paper was stored in the hallway closet. I always encourage guest to take my cell phone number with them and to call me with any concerns. Unforunately, i did not receive any communication until after she left. I would have had my cleaning staff their within 10 minutes to address her concerns. I only ask to be promptly notified and given a opportunity to verify and correct customer concerns. I cannot do this after-the-fact. I am sorry this stay did not meet with her satisfaction and did her previous stays. My notion of a 'perfect' satisfaction record is now out of reach. I would imagine 5 star hotels receive at least 1 complaint. My apologies to this person and i will continue my mission of satisfying all of my guest.

The apt. and property are great. The problem are the upstairs neighbors who feel this need to bang and run all over the place. They dragged chairs across the floor. One of the adults yells all over the complex for the kids to come in. Everyone was up around 6am - this included vacuuming, moving furniture (sorry, DRAGGING furniture) across the floor, running and pounding. Some of the banging happened at 2:30am.

My husband and I are both city people and we both grew up in typical NYC apartments. But the noise from above was so bad that we cut our 5 days short to 4. We did complain to the owner - the noise settled for a bit but was right back the next day.

We couldn't rest, couldn't relax. No doubt it was the worst place we ever stayed solely due to the noise from upstairs.

I have to add - the bed was like sleeping on a pile of bricks which didn't help given the noise upstairs.

Owner's Response: I am aware of this guest's concerns. I immediately called the condo management association and the manager came out the next morning and spoke to the 'guests' staying upstairs. Apparently, they quieted down but returned to their noisy ways. My guest did not let me know the problem resumed and decided to leave early. It is unfortunate that my guests stayed at a time when folk, with little concern for others, were renting the condo above my condo. I apologized to my guests and did what was prudent to address their concern. I am just reading about the bed concern. No prior guest mentioned it. I know beds are personal and rarely feel like the one we sleep in at home. I will look into this matter. I thank my guest for staying and i hope they will return at a discount rate for their troubles.

Highly Reccomended

  • 5 of 5

This is an intimate and very nice condo. It really does feel "almost" like home. There is a clear thoughtfulness to the setup, and basic essentials are all there. The condo is clean and well maintained, as is the entire complex. Located toward the top of Hunter Mountain, the views and surroundings are beautiful and all within reach. Winston is pleasant to deal with, and I would definitely stay there again. Bravo! I give it 4 stars if you're looking for perfection, but an absolute 5 if you're looking for a home away from home. Thanks for a wonderful stay I will not forget!

Owner's Response: We really appreciate this review. there is no time to rest on past success. The goal is to continue to strive toward perfection. We are truly fortunate to have great individuals, couples and families as guests and that is a compelling reason to make everyone feel at home away from home. We treat our guests as we would want to treated and it works. Again, we are greatful and we will continue to work hard to help our guests feel comfortable. Thank you.
