Beautiful location and grounds, a tropical paradise. Breathtaking views of the surf crashing. Large updated rooms, clean and very well equipped. We will be back!
Must Stay Here!
We are a family with 4 kids (7,5,3,1) and knew a hotel would be a nightmare for us with our kids. If you'd like to have a real bit of Hawaiian Paradise, then YOU MUST STAY HERE!! Evey morning and every night, you will not regret the GORGEOUS views. You will not regret the COMFORT you'll have in this home. You will not regret the CONVINCE of a beautiful beach, literally down the main road or grocery stores, fast food places, gas, etc near by. I absolutely recommend this vacation home to anyone needing a real vacation. Our hosts were gracious, kind, and available 100%. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with my family. We have left a little piece of our hearts in Hawaii.
Amazing ocean view and generous neighbor
My family and I spent 9 days 8 night from May 29 through June 6, 2016. We had a great time, everything was as described and more. There is tons of space everywhere, bedrooms, living room, kitchen, backyard area. The neighborhood is safe and secure. We slept with windows and doors open. The locals were extremely friendly. We had a gift exchanged with the neighbor and our kids were playing with their kid. We absolutely loved the house, everything you need is there. The local store and restaurant are near by. Our family will definitely return to this vacation home! Thanks Rebecca and Debbie for everything.
Duc, We are happy to hear that you and your family loved the house and enjoyed your stay at the property, and the neighborhood. We hope to welcome you soon again!
Good place to stay!
We were very happy with the home! The pictures don't do it justice! I was very hot if this home had an ac it would be much more enjoyable! The house manager was great! Rebecca was very nice! Disappointed we didn't meet her we wanted to give her a gift from New Mexico! The yard was great! We did go 2 out of 7 days without water for the majority of the both days. Due to a broken water line that was out of their control. My step dad helped to fix it. Overall the place was great! Lots of water toys for kids and some fishing stuff available. Neighbors were nice. House was very safe feeling. A few windows didn't open and screens were broken but all minor repairs. Thanks for the memories!
So glad Brandi you were very happy with the home and made great memories! The screens are windows are in the process of being replaced. Sorry I was not there to meet you, so sweet you brought a gift for me! I hope to welcome you back on your next trip to Hawaii.
Great view but drawbacks
The house itself was beautiful and the ocean view spectacular with awesome sunsets. However, there are some drawbacks to the property. It is located in Wainai which is an economically depressed area of Oahu. My wife and I didn't feel very safe driving to the VRBO and almost turned around and went back to the city of Honolulu. Other draw backs to the property include very little privacy with the homeless family living in tents on the lot to the north and those fishing from the lot to the south. The homeless family would use the wall of the VRBO as a shelf with some unsightly items. The family would be up very late banging on whatever it is they were working on. We also had a problem with them using a car for lights at night and the exhaust coming into the house, not very pleasant and with no carbon monoxide alarms a little worrisome. Also if you have kids I'd be concerned due to the smell of burning cannabis in the area as well. Debbie the property manager was very pleasant to work with but she tried to play the next door neighbors as the owners of the land that just camp on the weekends and stayed occasionally longer. The town of Wainai was dirty and had a lot of trash throughout. If you stay in the home and don't drive anywhere it's fine with exception to the tents next door. The breeze was very nice in the evening, however, with no AC it got very hot during the day. If you leave the house for any reason you must lock it up and put on the alarm making for difficult evenings. A couple of warm sleepless evenings. The access was easy and Debbie made herself available if needed. The house was very spacious and with good accommodations.
Glad you enjoyed the ocean view, sunsets, and the house overall.
Waianae is a more rural are, like most places along the leeward side, and has it's share of issues with people 'living off the land'. There's generally only a few weeks where it would be nice to have AC, looks like this was one of those times. Sorry to hear about the activities on the lot next door, and the inconveniences this brought. This is being addressed with the authorities, also regarding code violation, and to verify if the owner of that lot is even aware of it, to avoid such further incidences. Glad to hear that access and your contact to Debi for anyhting you needed while there was easy and good.
An absolutely beautiful waterfront home in a quiet and private setting.
The listing description was accurate in terms of location, layout, and amenities. The water front view was simply fabulous. The Master Bedroom is upstairs and has a private deck overseeing the backyard and surf. A very peaceful place sit with a cup of coffee and chill out in the morning. There are two bedrooms downstairs, one was facing the front of the house - perfect for our grandkids and the second bedroom had a sliding glass door that exited to the back yard and a beautiful view of the surf too. This bedroom had a futon couch that could double as a bed. This was a wonderful spot to sit and enjoy the surf too.
The property was exceptionally clean upon arrival. The sliding screen doors were in need of repair because of the salt air environment. There were also some minor maintenance/update needs in both of the bathrooms.
The local representative of the home owner was very responsive to any inquiries we had during our stay. There was one issue with the security vault used for storing personal items and valuables (passports and etc) - the combination given to us did not work. The local rep did provide us with a key to manually secure the vault when we were gone from the home touring the island or hanging out on the beach. It is only because of these two issues that I did not rate the home as 5 star - if I could rate it as 4.5 star I would have.
In terms of activities, attractions, and restaurants...
Makaha beach is located close by, one side of the beach is great for surfers but the beach is pretty steep and not good for wading in the surf. On the other side of the beach its slope tapers to a much gentler slope and is very nice for children wading and swimming in the surf. The Makaha beach community is pretty well removed from the nicer sit down for a fancy 5 star dinner restaurants. There are a few fast food drive thru's in the area (McDonalds, KFC and etc). There is a large grocery store about 5 miles from the Makaha house and a well stocked COSTCO in the Pearl City area.
The Makaha beach home is a wonderful place for a family vacation while staying in paradise like setting.
Thanks for your review Donald! The safety deposit box code has been reset, and many of the screens and some of the windows are actually being replaced, as we strive to maintain this property very well. Glad your overall stay was an enjoyable one, we'd welcome you back anytime :)
Makaha Beach is Oahu's second most popular snorkeling site. The clear, aqua blue water with little current is superb for snorkeling in summer. There are underwater caverns, arches, and tunnels as deep as 40 feet. Sea life includes schools of taape, octopuses, several species of eels, green sea turtles, transiting dolphins, and sometimes manta and eagle rays. Across from Makaha State Beach, is a Souvenir and Ocean sports equipment shop, where you can either purchase or rent various equipment to enjoy ocean sports. One of the nicest, most peaceful and calm beaches in the area, both summer and winter, is called Waianae Beach at Pokai Bay. Located on this beach is the Recreation Area and the Waianae Beach Resort for the Military. It is located about 5 minutes from the house by car going south, just after passing Seven Eleven, and turning right on Army Street. Park on the street, and bring photo ID to pass the Security Gate. The Waianae Beach Club offers great food, and a fantastic ocean view from the dining lanai. The Club restaurant has restricted times of service. Kayaks, boats, and other beach accessories can be rented right there on the beach. A small store is conveniently located on the beach, stocked with all necessities for an enjoyable time at the beach. Visit the Disney Resort at Koolina, which is located about 20 minutes south of the property. For a round of golf or a brunch, check out the Makaha Resort and Golf Club, which is just 5 minutes from the house.
