We are a retired couple and enjoy meeting other people that want a nice place to stay that is very quite and comfortable.

Ruth Gudger purchased this house in 2005

Why Ruth Gudger chose Lake Chatuge

We built this house new on our property next to our house primarly for our family to stay in if they wanted to have privacy.

What makes this house unique

New and very clean. Fantastic view, water access, No boat dock. Good swimming area with gradual slope. Very quite with almost no trafic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful, inviting and very clean house. Perfect for a family of four. Beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere on the wraparound deck. Ideal for sunbathing or relaxing in the evenings. Ruth and Glenn were so accommodating and generous. You could not ask for a kinder hosts. Everthing you could possibly need while on vacation is there. We will definitly return to the Dogwood Den on future visits. We would encourage all travelers, visiting the area, to choose this as your resting place. You will not regret your choice.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mira, You are a very thoughtful and wonderful guest. You and your husband are welcome back at any time. We would recommend you to anyone that offers rentals. Please feel free to come back at anytime. We do enjoy being able to share what we have with people that appreciate peace and quite for their valuable time away from the hustle and bustle of the world that we live in today. Ruth and Glenn

Great guest house! Beautiful view of the lake and mountains! Ruth and Glenn are the best & live right next door. We appreciated the fact that there were no steep stairs to climb as well as the fact that it was close to town. We have stayed in many, many cabins in the mountains and this was the best one yet! We can't wait to visit again!

Warm and inviting, Gorgeous Views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with another couple in Ruth's and Glenn"'a Dogwood Den. The apartment is well equipped and impeccably clean. Upon our arrival, Ruth came over to greet us with delicious Christmas cookies and to answer any questions we had. She was very accommodating throughout our stay. The porch and living room windows look out to the lake which is breathtaking. The unit is close to town and there are plenty of restaurants within a 1 mile of the unit. There is very little traffic on the road to take walks and enjoy the views. Couldn't ask for a better stay and would definitely rent this again if we are staying in the area. Ruth - thank you so much for your hospitality, you are a treasure!

Wonderful Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent two days at Ruth's wonderful property. It could not have been better! The view of the lake is spectacular and the location is extremely convenient. Ruth was just awesome to work with and so very accommodating. She brought us some beautiful Christmas desserts upon our arrival! This unit is fully equipped with everything that you need for an enjoyable getaway. It is totally immaculate and tastefully decorated. There is a very easy entry for loading and unloading with no stairs. And she welcomed our baby lab puppy with open arms! I highly recommend this property and thank Ruth for her kindness and hospitality. We will definitely return!

Very basic, but clean.

  • 2 of 5

I can only give this rental 2 stars. And that is unusual for me, because I normally pick great rentals! Here are the facts. The TV ~ now, I don't watch a lot of TV, but there were a few games on that I wanted to check out.... The TV is old as molasses. It is an old tube TV. There is static on most of the channels and it so small that you have to roll it, yes, it is on rollers, over to the sofa, (which is also ancient), to see it. The bed is a very basic mattress and we had to leave a day early because our backs hurt so bad from sleeping on it. The sheets are your basic sheets, not too soft and the bedspread ~ the same. Tried to pull a few quilts out but ...they are not quilts. I am not sure what they are made out of. They feel like paper.

There is a lot of needless decor around the apt and I had to move a lot of things into cabinets so I would have space on the countertops. It looks as if everything that they no longer want in their home gets moved up to the apt. Towels in bathroom are tiny and old. There is no bathtub. Shower is small.

There is no fireplace. Your view of the lake is nice, but having to overlook the largest RV I have ever seen in my life is not so nice.

There are 2 heaters. One is DIRECTLY above your head in the bedroom. I mean, if you want to turn it off or on, just reach up because it is literally sitting on top of the headboard. The other is in the wall in the living room. The back deck was not very friendly and overlooks into the living area of the house below which I believe are the owners. The deck needed more light and a good cleaning.

Furniture throughout house is all very old. There are no tears in it, but it is at least 25 to 30 years old. The sofa is hard and scratchy. Lucky I had my own blanket in the car.

It has a towel hanging over the curtain rod in the bathroom. I'm not kidding. The MICROWAVE is in a CLOSET! I was too scared to use it, although it is plugged in in there somewhere. Seriously.

The only reason I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it was very clean. Uncomfortable, but clean. Luckily we were not in it during the day, but our nights were uncomfortable. It is not very close to town either. This is more of a lake house and definitely not a mountain cabin.

Bad bed, bad towels, bad shower, bad TV, 70's decor, closet microwave, uncomfortable, RV view. ) :

Owner's Response: WOW! I will start with the TV. Yes, it is a tube type, 27" Sylvania. If it had to be moved to couch, someone has a problem. Reception problems are because the cable company has been upgrading service for over a month and causing interference. Sofa & end tables are Colonial style. Bed- Posture Perfect Supreme by Orderest. Description- Purchased last year- Inner springs, Polyester pad, cotton felt, and urethane foam. Most universal we could find considering anyone that rents. Sorry, sheets are not Satin but very good quality. Email stated that they had to leave early (night before) for a meeting early next morning. I still have copy. Quilts- There were 4 soft blankets in the closet. ????? That is an insult because they are not like paper. There are 22 ft. of counter space. How much does 2 people need? Yes, there is a coffee pot, 2 napkin holders with napkins, paper towel holder with paper towels, toaster oven, toaster, wine bottle night light, cooking utensils in holder, George Forman lean&mean grilling mach. small for 2 sandwiches, fruit bowl for decoration. These are there for anyone to see that they are furnished.and can be placed in cabinet. Microwave is in the pantry which a lot of people are doing now to save counter space. Largest heat/air pump made for 220v in living room (new) and I space heater if needed in closet. Over head board is air conditioner/remote control on table if needed. Deck is bleached and cleaned each year. House is located aprox. 4 miles from town and is not advertised as a mountain cabin. Bathroom- shower, standard size and a hand towel for decoration over window that has blinds. We furnish "good bath towels" but do not furnish beach towels. Apartment is 40 ft from our house and 1 window you can be see into our kitchen. Yes, motor home is in drive that you can see over. 2nd floor in motels, you see over parking lot. ??????? We don't claim it to be a mansion but evidently some people expect that. In our years of renting, this is the FIRST complaint because we try our best to please people. We know you want rest and relaxation. There is no way that you can please everyone but we do try. By the way, these people came in and left but we did not get to meet them or know what they look like.
