About Ruth Gudger

We are a retired couple and enjoy meeting other people that want a nice place to stay that is very quite and comfortable.

Ruth Gudger purchased this house in 2005

Why Ruth Gudger chose Hiawassee

We built this house new on our property next to our house primarly for our family to stay in if they wanted to have privacy.

What makes this house unique

New and very clean. Fantastic view, water access, No boat dock. Good swimming area with gradual slope. Very quite with almost no trafic.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A wonderful, inviting and very clean house. Perfect for a family of four. Beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere on the wraparound deck. Ideal for sunbathing or relaxing in the evenings. Ruth and Glenn were so accommodating and generous. You could not ask for a kinder hosts. Everthing you could possibly need while on vacation is there. We will definitly return to the Dogwood Den on future visits. We would encourage all travelers, visiting the area, to choose this as your resting place. You will not regret your choice.

Super View and Location. Lodging was especially clean. Hosts were warm and inviting.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had an extremely nice weekend stay with Ruth & Glenn at their cottage rental overlooking a quiet cove on Lake Chatuge with Mountain vistas in the distance. The place was immaculate. Our hosts, Ruth & Glenn, were warm and inviting and more than willing to entertain and visit with us - like visiting your favorite Aunt & Uncle.

Location was close to town (Hiawassee, GA) and easy to get to, but secluded enough that you didn't hear any road noise.

We would without hesitation recommend this rental and plan on returning ourselves in the near future. 5 Stars ....

Owner's Response: These are fine, wonderful people that treated our home as if it were theirs. It was left very clean and in very good order. We would recomend them to anyone that they contact for a rental to be a very outstanding family. They are welcome back at any time to stay with us. We only wish that all renters were as nice, clean, and friendly as they are and we feel that we have met a new friend that we would not have met had we not had a rental.

Comfortable and Clean Accommodations With A Beautiful View

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean, cozy, and well-equipped. The owners, Glenn and Ruth, were personable and helpful. The view from the living room and kitchen was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was too chilly outside to take advantage of the wide deck that overlooked the view. One of the twin beds was very noisey whenever someone turned over on it. The heater/ air conditioner was so loud that it was difficult to hear the tv when it was running. But overall it was very enjoyable and comfortable.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the nice review Donna. It was enjoyable being able to spend a short time with you. Pepe is now starting to walk very short walks but tires very easly. He still requires constant care but each day seems to feel a little better. Please come back so that we can spend more time with you and James. We highly recommend to every one that the two of you are extreemly fine renters and care for peoples property very well. We feel that you and James are wonderful people and Ruth and me have aquared two very nice friends. Ruth and Glenn

Beautiful refuge from Hurricane Irma

  • 5 of 5

We were mandatory evacuated from our home in SWFL in anticipation of hurricane Irma. We left Tuesday 9/5th and 12pm. We booked a pet friendly hotel in lake city so we could sleep and then find a place further up in north Georgia when we got to the hotel. Our pet friendly room was "not available" and for $250 we could bring our pet in a non pet friendly room. :( so we said NO THANKS #^£%!!! And proceeded to drive (14 hours total) to north ga, had a family member let us nap in there RV the following day as we tried to find a pet friendly place to stay, HomeAway app saved the day as hotels everywhere were booked! After a couple minutes I was able to secure a cabin in hiawasee! Glenn & Ruth were so accommodating and helpful. We stayed a week and there kindness will always be remembered. ❤️

Owner's Response: Many thanks to a family that was in need and we were able to help. They are a wonderful family that takes care of the property. Our hope and prayers is that there wasn't much damage to their property in Florida and they are more than welcome to come back for a vacation of relaxing and enjoyment without the pressure of such a major problem. We feel that we had the pleasure of meeting a very nice family and will always welcome them as friends.

Charming, comfortable cottage...Wonderful views!

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet and relaxing location with all the comforts of home and lovely views of beautiful Lake Chatuge. Were there for the eclipse but it was so nice we stayed an extra day. We were there five nights and only left once to rent a boat on the lake. There is lake access for swimming just steps away and the neighborhood is nice for a stroll. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked and we had plenty of supplies so we ate in the whole time. Owners Ruth and Glenn are a delight and were kind enough to supply us with fresh tomatoes from the garden and some cake and ice cream one evening. Would not hesitate to go back again and again and again...
