About Joseph

All of the owners of this property have spent a lot of time in Jackson Hole. This photo is actually of a few of us in Granite Canyon.

Joseph purchased this house in 2006

Why Joseph chose Jackson

The deck and access to the Snake River sold it for us.

What makes this house unique

Being so close to the Snake River is fantastic. It's easy to kill a couple of days just hiking around the property and going down to the river. There is a bald eagle that lives on the opposite side of the river who you can oftentimes see hunting!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Snake river rental was lovely. We had a lovely visit.

Thanks you for making our stay really special. I hope we left it as you like.

WONDERFUL location, clean and spacious!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the Snake River retreat. Gorgeous setting, close enough to Jackson (12-15min) and Teton Village (30min) and all the action (rafting, fly-fishing, hiking, horseback riding, you name it). After reading some reviews we were not sure what to expect. The home was clean and spacious. The deck overlooking the Snake River was a wonderful place to hang out early in the morning for coffee and at night under the moonlight. Our boys caught several trout right on the banks of the Snake River. Cute little Hoback Market was less than a mile away with all the things we needed (food and fishing license). Day trips to Teton National Park and even Yellowstone are entirely possible and some of our favorite memories of the trip. The owners responded immediately when the dryer had a minor issue and they could not have been more accommodating. We would definitely stay here again! What a wonderful trip!

Owner's Response: Thats exactly the way we feel about the home! In response to a recent 3 star review. There was a lot of incorrect information and I probably should have spent some time clarifying their misinformation but I didn't want to sound defensive. Thanks for treating our home like your own.

It had a great feel to it! Loved it!

  • 4 of 5

The house could have had better furnishings and linens. Other than that we loved the house, it's location, the back porch and river!

This house and its contents are tired.

  • 3 of 5

We really liked the location of The Snake River Retreat in terms of its proximity to town and GTNP (note that the front of the house sits no more than 50 yards off of a very busy highway). The house is very spacious and was quite clean. However, the interior of the house looks nothing like the pictures on the VRBO website which depict a very cozy and inviting environment. There is nothing cozy about this house. Many pieces of the furniture and accessories that are in the pictures have been removed. For example, there is hardly any furniture in the living room are there are no longer any rugs on the hard wood floors. This may be due to the fact that the house is for sale. The word I would use to describe this house is TIRED. I’m sure it was quite lovely in its day. All that being said, we spent most of our time out and about on adventures and had a great trip to Jackson. Most of the time that we spent at the house was on the deck and around the kitchen table…

Owner's Response: I received an initial email from a woman in the party upon arrival who said the home was beautiful and spacious. Regardless, David appears to have a different perspective. I switched out the one photo that had old furniture. We removed what we found to be an overabundance of seating to make the house more open. We also redid all the floors so we got rid of the throw rugs. It's our belief that the hard wood floors look much nicer and make the house much easier to keep clean. In June of this past year we put in $15,000 for completely new fixtures and paint, kitchen flooring and other repairs. I've also added a video where anyone can take a walk through of the house in it's current state. I also have an outdoor video, but we are only allowed to enter a single video. I'll try to splice them together so our users can see them in one spot. If you want to see the outside view let me know and I'll refer you to our youtube page. We agree this is the best part of the home.

Nice, but not what's pictured.

  • 3 of 5

We liked it, but the pictures do not show the current state of the property. The sleeping arrangements are not accurate. The furnishings are not accurate either. The home is for sale, which wasn't made known until the week we were arriving. There are several things they should disclose about the property in the listing, in addition to the above discrepancies; the sliding glass door does not close without being wedged shut with a board (no lock), the stove vent doesn't work, the main doors (front and garage) have no dead bolts so if you're traveling with young children they can open the doors easily (we left behind a door bar we had to purchase) and the house is located on a very busy highway making it quite dangerous, the deck and stone porch are swarming with ants(we sprayed but they really should professionally exterminate) and there is little or no cell phone signal. The owner said they would contact us 24 hours in advance of showing the home, however having no cell phone coverage while actually INSIDE the house it was impossible, so they showed it anyway, which was rather awkward.

Owner's Response: I feel like this review is off the mark. I spoke with Julie while she was at the home and none of this was an issue at the time. To clarify a few points I will simply attach the email one of the other owners sent me. I'm guessing it was not Julie who wrote that review! She was having a great time and was cool with things. Some of the complaints are inaccurate. I don't expect you to get defensive in your reply but I am just setting the record straight for what it's worth. For example, there are deadbolts on laundry and front doors which when set by turning knob to the right, stop the door from being opened from the inside. The deadbolt is unnecessary in the laundry because if the big garage door is closed a child cannot escape. They just didn't read the sign by the front door on how to set the deadbolt. Regarding the ants, I just asked the cleaners if there were still lots of ants on the patio. It was probably a fluke during their week. It IS the country as we say in the welcome letter. Gina said they left the place really messy but that we should give them their deposit back anyway. No damage done. Regarding the house showing: I'm pretty sure you emailed them 24 hours in advance and no phone was necessary to see the email. Julie said she was having so much fun doing things that she didn't check her email. Then Diana called and texted them while they were in the park and out of the service area. That was not the poor phone service at the house. I'm surprised they didn't complain about the danger of the river being so close and that we didn't inform them that they should not bring children.

Right on the River

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here as a family reunion of six adults and one teenager. We thought it was perfect for our needs. It's just 10 miles south of Jackson and close to the Park via Moose-Wilson road.

The house is for sale so one thing we did notice was that some of the furniture has been removed (for staging purposes I assume) but if I hadn't seen the pics I wouldn't have noticed. The house is roomy, spacious and comfortable. I saw some of the reviews about road noise. The house is on a main road but the walls of the house are well insulated so really when you're inside you can't even hear it. As a city dweller I didn't even notice it. My parents live in a small town and even they said they thought the river was noisier than the road, which they loved. The river was flowing at full capacity due to a very wet winter. It was so much fun watching it go by with the occasional rafter floating by.

The kitchen is well stocked with a full size fridge and plenty of seating for our large family. It was just the perfect location for our family vacation. The best part of the house is sitting out on the deck watching the Snake River float by. If you decide to stay here be sure make some time sitting out on the deck. It's beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. It was our favorite part of the house.

Owner's Response: All star guests! The reason why we purchased the home was because of the river. Glad you enjoyed it as much as we do.
