Manoire de la Groye - a beautiful hideaway
We simply loved Manoir de la Groye - wonderful hosts and a beautiful historic old Manor House in stunning gardens and policies made this one of our favourite ever holidays in France - and that is saying something.
Truly gorgeous part of France in superb accommodation
From the minute you arrive you know it's going to be fantastic. The website pictures are extremely accurate and fair to say the place is even more astounding in real life! The hosts are super friendly with nothing too much to ask for. We stayed in the "Potage" and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. If you love stunningly beautiful scenery , peace and tranquility with the option of dipping in and out of busy little French towns then you will struggle to find somewhere better. This was our first experience of using Home and Away and no disappointment in the slightest. Easy to book, reasonable rates and communication between ourselves and the owners ahead of our stay was great.
The Potage had everything you would need for a week stay. Spacious and modern bathroom retaining so many of the original features just like the rest of the accommodation. Whilst there are 3 rental properties the noise and privacy is not compromised.
With a local Boulangerie a little walk up ( a very steep hill!) and a small supermarket just 10 minute car journey away all you need is on hand.
The bikes made available were a complete bonus and added so much unexpectedly to our stay.
Simply wonderful from start to finish.
Beautiful, quality accommodation in amazing surroundings!
We stayed in 'Petit Louet', which is on the ground floor of the Manor House - the red door to the right of the outdoor staircase in the photos. The whole property, including Petit Louet, is even more fabulous than the website photos - which are already pretty great! The atmosphere was tranquil and relaxed, and the hospitality offered by Renaud was very welcoming but discreet. The complimentary bicycles were a nice surprise, as was the range of organic local wines offered by the glass or bottle on the terrace overlooking the French garden.
There were several other units occupied while we were there, but while everyone was lovely and friendly - we all had our own space and plenty of privacy.
We were there from 16th September, when some of the local restaurants have started to close up for the season. There were plenty of local shops a short drive away though, and if you don't want to self cater or go out (we did both) you can buy breakfast or an evening meal from Renaud - to your door, or on the terrace, as you prefer.
We ate at Bistro de St Sat one evening, a short walk up the hill in St Saturnin, and would recommend that. From the outside it looks a bit ordinary - don't be put off! Really good food well priced, a nice atmosphere, and a big outdoor eating area at the back too. Or you can just go for a drink. The little boulangerie in St Saturnin is brilliant too.
I'd also really recommend visiting the town of Brissac-Quince, a 10 minute drive. Make sure you find the square, we missed it the first couple of times! Restaurants, bars, food shops, and a v nice wine shop. Not to mention a chateau.
Finally, another quick word about the accommodation. Petit Louet retains so many gorgeous original features, beautifully restored alongside quality modern kitchen and bathroom installations. The furniture and fabrics are a treat, as were the organic supplies. We wanted for nothing, and hope to go back!
Wow! What a detailed and. Ice review! Thank you Siobhan, we hope to see you again.
Belle place historique
