The Brasstown Creek House is a beautiful, centrally located spot to spend some quality time, whether you're looking for peace and quiet, a base from which to explore the area, a place to stay while visiting family and friends, a place to host a gathering or to take classes at the nearby, nationally known John C. Campbell Folk School.
The Creek House can be found three miles southeast of Brasstown, NC at 8105 Old US 64 in Clay County. The Smoky Mountains surround the Creek House and provide spectacular scenery. The Creek House is situated directly on Brasstown Creek which borders the edge of the Hyatt Farm. What this means to guests is lots of fun; wading, tubing, fishing, hiking, and picnicing. Quieter enjoyments at the Creek House include watching the brown herons stalk up and down the creek looking for a likely spot to catch a few fish, and listening to the creek lull you to sleep.
We really enjoyed our trip to Brasstown. The kids had a great time playing outside in the creek and running around the farm. My husband and I enjoyed the hottub and fireplace. This home is located close to Murphy and Haynesville. Mrs. Sandra was a pleasure to do business with. I would highly recommend this home to anyone wanting to get away. If you like BBQ I highly recommend Rib Country sooo good:)
The cabin was so relaxing and very clean, couldn't ask for a more relaxing getaway.. Thank you Sandra!
The Brasstown Creek House is a nice little place- Clean, Recently Built, and private, but some mild problems detracted from our stay. The foundation is settling, as the house is built on a hill, which causes doors to not close properly, and sometimes slam, no big deal, as the house is well equipped with nice beds, and everything you need for a getaway. There are smoke alarms very close to the fireplace, which caused some irritation as I stoked the fire. The ramp that serves as the only entrance to the house is not really well thought out. It is long, and gets quite slick in the rain- again, no real big deal, but a mild concern- the owners had nailed shingles down to try and assuage the situation.
And now, I must come to my actual complaint, and what set the tone that made some of the niggling complaints above seem more of an issue: Communication was poor. I got no fewer than 10 emails giving confusing, and often conflicting information. VRBO took some odd $26 via my credit card. I was told to send a check in one email, cash in the next, half now, the full amount upon arrival, the full amount upon arrival, etc. I must recommend ONE email, explaining VRBO charged this amount to the customer's credit card, and concise instructions on how the remainder of the balance is to be paid. FYI, some people may be put off by being required to bring cash to a remote location. Finally, the cell phone service is spotty out there. I was asked to text when I was 15 minutes away, which I did. Well, after 45 minutes of sitting in the driveway, I drove back into town, and called. Turns out I had been given a land line's number that I was told received no texts. None of this is the end of the world, and I must stress that it was a nice little house, but I feel a need to be honest for posterity. Best Wishes
The cabin was clean and well maintained. The owners were very hospitable. We would absolutely stay here again.
What a treat to spend the weekend at this beautiful, conveniently located cabin while my husband attended a class at John C Campbell Folk School. The cabin was absolutely immaculate, very comfortable and well furnished with all that we needed. The view and the sound of the creek was so relaxing! We enjoyed an early morning soak in the hot tub before class and squeezed in a short walk along the creek. Our only regret was not being able to stay longer but we will definitely be back to enjoy another class and hopefully a longer stay! Thanks so much Sandra for the perfect rental!!!
We LOVED our time at the creek house! The area is just beautiful! Our boys loved playing in the creek and running up and down the trail. We waded in the creek and walked the trail along the creek each day. The sound of the creek from the front porch each morning while we drank our coffee was so peaceful. The location is great if you want to just relax or there are many attractions within driving distance. We hope to plan a return trip this summer when it is a little warmer so we can enjoy the creek even more! The house is clean and we'll laid out. The washer and dryer was a great feature because it allowed us to go home with almost no dirty clothes to wash. The only thing I would have liked to have would have been more towels and a few baking dishes. Other than that we had everything we needed. Thank you for a nice, affordable place for our vacation!
