Review from Jill in ME: Dear Chris,

Just got back from a week at the house, I'm all ready for work to begin. Drifting off to sleep to the sound of the waves after a day of exploring along the rocks, visiting with the seals, whale watching, or just watching the sun set and the moon rise was just perfect! The memories will keep me until my next vacation. Reserve the third week in July for me for next year.

Thanks again,

Jill

Review from Dee Sordillo in MA: I've re-read my journal - and my memory and my recorded word match. Both my husband and I were speechless on first seeing the location. We arrived in the dead of night and found the rooms warm and very welcoming, immaculate and every comfort item covered. But - the best awaited til morning. The spectacular view takes your breath away Every morning the same vantage point gives a totally different view and feel. My pictures cannot express the beauty. Enjoy - Enjoy - Enjoy Dee Sordillo

P.S

If you are a seafood lover, especially haddock - you'll think you are in heaven.

Chris purchased this House in 2005

Why Chris chose Digby County

Location location location! Because of where it is...At the end of the mainland. The house was specifically designed to maximize the location. When you sit in the great room, in the dining room, on the deck, or even as you open your eyes in the morning, you'll see and hear the ocean...every day. At night you'll see the stars, and if the moon is out you'll see it's reflection on the water...That is, when you look away from the crackling fire in the massive fireplace defined by its solid hand hewn timber mantle salvaged from an historic barn.

What makes this House unique

A gated entry to the private peninsula. Your own seal colony just steps away, private forest paths along the rocky seaside cliffs, a gourmet kitchen, huge dining area that comfortably seats everyone plus a lucky guest or two, an even larger deck, and enough space so everyone can be together or alone as they choose. We've even seen a whale or two from the deck swimming along Petite Passage among the dolphins and seals.

      Location Type

        • Beach
There are several sand and pebble beaches nearby (walking or driving) for beach combing. There's also a fresh water provincial park and picnic area about 15 minutes drive.
        • Lake
Lake Midway Provincial Park is 15 minutes away. It has a picnic area and swim float. It is perfect for warm fresh water swimming, boating, picnics, and fishing, with a license.
        • Oceanfront
All but one of the five bedrooms has ocean views. The great room, dining room, and kitchen have ocean views, as does the house's full length deck.
        • Rural
This is definitely a 'getaway' with minimum light pollution, no traffic sounds, or distractions from the sounds of the seals, birds, ocean, wind, fishing boats, and an occasional foghorn.
        • Village
There are small villages nearby, several within an hour's drive. Digby has shops and restaurants. Annapolis Royal has more variety with beautiful public gardens, a farmer's market and historic sites
        • Waterfront
Wooded trails along cliffs to seal colony. Tide pools, coves, and natural basalt stone staircases lead to the water's edge. Care should be taken, especially during wet and windy weather.
        • Waterfront
You're on the ocean. The only way to get closer is to be in a boat or swimming with the seals!

These are deer trails and are not suitable for very small children, unchaperoned pre-adolescents or infirm adults. There are three sandy beaches within a ten minute drive. There is a fresh water beach and picnic area located at a provincial park about 15 minutes away. There are several good places to fish nearby. Petit Passage Whale Watching is literally minutes away. The cafe has great chowder and fresh seafood. Brier Island Nature preserve is nearby Balance Rock nature trail is very close by as well. The historic towns of Digby, Annapolis Royal, and Yarmouth are short day-trips featuring public gardens, restaurants and shops. The owners have prepared an updated three ring binder of brochures and menus for renters use.

                                                          Family Reunion at Seal Point

Nice house, great location right on the water. Big open concept kitchen, dining room, family room can easily accommodate a large . A huge veranda with an incredible view can also accommodate 10 to 12 people easily. The house was clean and it was a very smooth move in and move out with easy access to a house keeper for some problem issues.

There were a few problems, not having access to a BBQ was problematic for us since we were depending on it for meal preparation. Wifi was very spotty, ice maker was broken, some of the cookware and utensils need to be replaced.

In case someone asks, access to the path which leads to the seal colony is located on the right of the house when looking at it from the water. The trail head is marked with a buoy hanging on a post.

Overall it was a good experience, I would do a return stay and will recommend.

                                                          A nice family getaway.

                                                          Elena D.

The property is lovely, and being a bit outside of Digby was also great. It felt totally removed and because of that, on clear nights, the stars were the most spectacular that any of us had ever seen.

We enjoyed the open layout of the house, the huge deck, and the stunning views.

That being said, there were thing that weren't perfect.

The supply of basic kitchen utensils, like cutting boards was poor, and the cleaning detail was spotty. We spent a fair bit of time cleaning, redoing laundry, and organizing the home once we got there.

Most notably, there were NO window coverings upstairs at all, which made putting little ones down for mid day naps, or sleeping in impossible. Bring your sleeping masks!

Having more than one hair dryer for a house sleeping 11, would have also been nice.

Overall though, it was a wonderful experience, we just think there could be a few easy tweaks that could make the home a better rental.

                                                          Owner's Response:

Thanks for the feedback. We'll be sure to add more hair dryers and some curtains upstairs. We'll check with housekeeping to see if the clothes washer is in good working order. Glad to hear the location worked well for you and your family.

Great, clean house with amazing property and view!

                                                          Pete H.

Great place to spend our first week ever in Nova Scotia! The house was clean, ready and came with plenty of recommendations and instructions on how to make the most of our stay. Lots of space for parents, kids and teenagers to spend time alone and great areas for coming together to hang out. The porch was a religious experience. Every room comes with a great view and we didn't even mind a few days of fog because it just made the sunshine that much more spectacular. Communication was great and we LOVED the privacy. All the luxuries of home in a spot surrounded by the wonders of nature. Highly recommended!

So pleased you and your family enjoyed your time at Seal Point House! It really is a magical place. Hope to see you next year. The seals, eagles, and whales will be waiting!

The house is absolutely beautiful! Exactly as described. The views are stunning and it is totally private. Our family of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children - had a wonderful time. We saw eagles and seals right in front of the house. The boys went fishing almost every day and gathered fresh mussels and clams right in front of the house. We went on a whale watch (leaves from the dock about 5 minutes away) and saw 12 whales! You even get up pretty close to them. Horseback riding was only about an hour away and the town of Digby is about a 35 - 40 minute drive. There are some cute little restaurants and shops along with a couple of grocery stores and banking right in Digby. You can also get fresh scallops in Digby and lobsters right from the dock by the house. There are lots of places to go hiking and a nice sand beach about 15 minutes away. The house is very well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this house and will return for sure! Chris is awesome to work with and will answer any questions quickly. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

My wife and I, my four children (Edmonton, NYC, Uxbridge, Dartmouth), their three spouses, and my 9 grandchildren spent 6 days at this beautiful spacious house. Enjoyed the walk to Seal Point several times - always plenty of seals to watch. View is amazing! Balancing rock a short ferry ride away. This house has all the facilities you may require, never ran out of dishes or glasses. Thanks for a very enjoyable family reunion.

After a drive down a dirt road, we were pleasantly surprised to find this beautiful home overlooking St. Mary's Bay. If you are looking for peace, quiet, and beautiful sunsets this is the place for you. The house is large, nicely appointed and taken care of.

A few mornings the house was surrounded by puffy fog but after driving a few miles (to about Sandy Cove), the fog lifted and we found a sunny day awaiting us. The ferry to Long Island and Balancing Rock is very close by and don't forget to take the next ferry to Brier's Island and a very picturesque lighthouse. There is a very good whale watch outfit here, too. About 30 miles away is Digby and scallops, scallops, scallops. Wonderful!

I highly recommend this home for anyone interested in total relaxation. Whether you use it as a base to travel the area or prop up your feet on the deck and read or watch the tides come in and recede, this is a wonderful home.
