Everything about our week at Camp Awad was magical. The house itself is roomy and beautiful. The bedrooms are bigger than they appear in photos, as is the kitchen. Our daughter (age 2.4) loved the private beach and looking for fish in the water. The water was warmer than expected. Bring an inner tube for some relaxation time. There are some underwater plants between the beach and the float, so swimming directly from shore out into the lake isn't recommended, but the dock provides easy access to the more swimmable area.
Paradox Lake itself was gorgeous -- quiet, serene, peaceful, perfect. It is not overdeveloped, nor is it crowded with boats. There were typically two motorboats on the lake at any given time, and a handful of kayaks/canoes. (Our stay was during the last week of August.) Schroon Lake is a little bit larger and has a little more going on. It's about 15 minutes away. Lake George (40 minutes away) is huge and has a ton of restaurants/activities -- definitely worth a day trip there.
The nearby town of Schroon is adorable, with a quaint little main street that has a diner, a movie theater, a couple of bars, and more. Keep driving past the main drag and you'll arrive at Paradox Brewing, with tasty beers and a nice outdoor beer garden.
There's plenty of hiking to be had. We hiked up Mt. Severance (just a 10-15 minute drive away)...and don't miss Split Rock Falls, a gorgeous waterfall about 25 minutes away.
Can't say enough good things about Camp Awad. Would definitely return.
Relaxing at the lake
The lake is one of the most peaceful places on earth. Wife & I used to stay at Witt's end 20 years ago and the place hasn't changed at all, Its like we never left. Camp Awad is a beautiful home with everything you could need to have a great time. Nice beach and deck area. We rented a boat from Schroon Lake Marina and tied it up to the dock for easy access. The rooms are huge and the kitchen is the best room in the house. The hot tub is very clean and well maintained. Only down side (depending on the way you look at it) was the lack of cell service at the house. We did have an issue with the hot water but I am sue that they fixed it now.
Thank you Larry and family. You have been very gracious guests. Sorry for the hot water problem it was a fuse problem. Thanks for letting me know. Concerning The lack of cell phone service, this is a problem in the Adirondack Park. The Ad Park commission does not allow cell phone towers. The charter requires it to" be forever wild" That is why we provide free local, regional, and natiowide land line phone service. I appreciate the feed back.
Amazing doesn't even begin to say what a beautiful home and location Mr. and Mrs. Awad's property is ... and it gave our family one of the best vacations we've had together. Mr. and Mrs. Awad were there to greet us which was a wonderful touch - they showed us around their property and made sure we were comfortable before they headed off. The home is secluded enough to give you the get-away you need but is also close enough to town for those last minute needs. The home is beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The sandy private beach and water quality was exceptional and a lot of time was spent there by our entire family. The yard is large enough and conducive to playing yard games. Close by hiking trails and fishing on the lake and Schroon River were also activities we participated in. So many wonderful things to do we didn't have time to do them all - we hope to return next year to continue our adventure! Thanks again Mr. and Mrs. Awad for sharing your home. It was very much appreciated ... Scott, Nancy and family
Thank you Scott And Nancy for your review. You were gracious guests who took good care of our home and left it in the same good condition you found it in. You are welcome any time. Hanna & George
Beautiful Camp Awad!
What a wonderful place for a vacation retreat! I spent a relaxing week at Paradox lake along with our friends. We were 7 in all. We had more than enough room to spread out and enjoy everything this property has to offer. From back yard BBQ's to daily games of wiffle ball in the front yard, we had a blast! The well equipped gourmet kitchen was a pleasure to cook in when we weren't going to the Drake restaurant in the town of Schroon close by. This home was clean and comfortable with beautiful woodwork and cosy little nooks. It was very enjoyable. Did I mention that we caught and released a ton of fish and took advantage of the row boat we were offered to use? We spent our nights in the hot tub, watching movies in the family room or sitting on the dock watching the sunset. Just a really nice inviting home with all the ammenities one could hope for in a vacation rental. We will be back!
Thank you, we will continue to do our best.

Awesome lake house!
We had a wonderful week with old friends at Camp Awad! The house is on a beautiful lot with lots of pretty flowers and tomato plants, which George encouraged us to pick and enjoy while we were there. The lake is clean and quiet, the beach pretty, with a nice swimming dock to lay out on. Sunsets were incredible! We used the canoe and rowboat that were there, and had fun exploring the nooks and crannies of the lake. The house itself is very well maintained, with a beautiful kitchen and large dining room. We cooked all nights but one, and used the propane grill every time. We were there during a heatwave, but thankfully there were ceiling fans in the bedrooms that helped us sleep. We appreciated the comfy beds and numerous bathrooms, too. The house was very clean and comfortable, and we also enjoyed the hot tub a couple of nights before the weather was too hot. The stars were incredible from the hot tub, and we felt like we were worlds away!
George was very helpful before and during our stay, helping us figure out where to go and even sending us a packet of info on the area before we arrived. We explored Fort Ticonderoga, the New Skete Monastery and dog breeding operation, and Mt. Whiteface and a gorgeous waterfall nearby. All were beautiful and interesting. All in all it was the perfect combination of relaxing days at the lake and fun and interesting exploring of the area. The town is pretty small but we did enjoy the farmer's market one day and went out to dinner our last night. This is a great place to get together with family or friends!
Amazing Quiet Summer Retreat
Our family recently rented this wonderful vacation home and enjoyed ourselves, even more that at the NJ Shore! The home is very clean, and the owners have thought of everything! Even down to a back up generator should you lose power! The home is very spacious and offers a great setting for those from 2-72! The children can play safely on the lawn, or on the flat beach. The raft situated out from the beach offers a nice swim to and from shore. Loons will quietly wake you up in the am and the setting sun will lull you to sleep. A great retreat for anyone looking to combine the luxury of vacation with the setting of the gorgeous Adirondacks!
Thank you, We are glad we lived up to your expectations. Hope to see you again. Thank you for taking care of our home.
