Why Mary chose Estate Saint Quaco and Zimmerman
We built Romance Cottage across the driveway from our home. We love St. John & Coral Bay so we felt it would be a perfect way to have others visit our Island
What a great place to stay
My stay at the Romance Cottage could not have been any better. The cottage was spotless and had all the amenities I needed, including a large comfortable bed, air conditioning, stable wifi, satellite TV, a large walk-in shower, kitchen, gas grill, and a very nice balcony with patio furniture and a spectacular view of Coral Bay. I also want to mention that the owners, Mary and Ray, were very nice people and and invited me to go to dinner with them one night. This place is awesome!
What a great spot!
Romance Cottage is such a delightful place to stay, Mary and Jay have thought of everything to make us comfortable. The cottage is very clean, arranged perfectly, and the view is amazing. There's also an assortment of Mary's gorgeous quilts on display that give the cottage a wonderfully homey touch. The drive up to their property is unbelievable and we had to laugh the first time because it's so steep up the initial hill that it's comical, as are a lot of the roads on the island, and we highly recommend that you rent a Jeep. Driving on these steep roads (on the left side) does take a bit of getting used to but it honestly doesn't take long. We even followed a small herd of goats up their street one time. The property is at the end of a dead end so it's very quiet except for the tropical sounds of the outdoors at night. It's such a wonderful place to wake up, that outrageous view is there every morning to greet you. The deck is the most popular place to hang out, it has an overhead fan to keep any flying pests at bay and they also supply one of those racket bug zappers that work great when necessary. We didn't need to use that much because the overhead fan works well, but it did come in handy a few times. The drive down their hilly road to the main drag is also only a minute or two, just mind any goats you may come across. The nearest restaurants and food stores are only a few minutes away around the corner once you're on the main road with the gorgeous coastal view. If you're like me and your phone service is Verizon you can pretty much forget about picking up a satellite signal anywhere on the island. AT&T seems to be the cell service that works on island, and Sprint works in Cruz Bay, however I didn't miss the use of my phone at all, and I used WiFi for browsing wherever it was available upon request. Our beach visits included Maho, Jumbie, and Francis Bays, with Maho being our favorite. We even snorkeled with sea turtles at Maho Bay, they're just out there feeding on the bottom grasses and they just do their thing as you watch. The guidebook "Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive" by Pam Gaffin (provided at the cottage) was a great help the entire time we were there, she covers the island thoroughly and her Jeep tour narratives were spot on.
Hope you will visit our Cottage again!
Romance cottage is simply wonderful
Let's begin here... GREAT EASY road and driveway to Romance Cottage. Wonderful views of Coral Bay from the covered, north facing veranda. Excellent tasting water right from the tap! (including good tasting ice cubes from the icemaker) Let's continue... Location in Calabash Boom is right near the new market there with excellent choices. It is equal distance between the restaurants in Coral Bay and snorkeling near Salt Pond, Kiddel Bay, Lameshur Bays. It's very near Shipwreck Landing. Mary and Jay are wonderful hosts and very attentive to any needs that may arise. Kitchen is nicely appointed. The entire place is really nice! And it's QUIET...no symphony of roosters or barking dogs. We were visited by neighborhood donkeys (outside the entrance gate) and turtles. Additional features for snorkelers: good hose sprayer to wash off equipment and space to store things/towels to dry. Four ceiling fans kept us very comfortable and the A/C works very well when needed. Romance Cottage is great for any couple (young or older) who wants to stay near Coral Bay with easy access to the East End too.
Perfect in every way
This was our 7th trip to St. John, but our first stay at Romance Cottage. We know what we like, and this property has it! As others have mentioned, it is very clean, well maintained, has a beautiful view and is in Coral Bay, the side of the island that we prefer.
We spent every morning eating our breakfast on the large deck enjoying the view. Most nights would find us out on the deck either eating dinner or enjoying an evening drink. (BTW - Do try Coral Bay Caribbean Oasis for dinner. You can get a dinner for two - TO GO - for $20 - $30 and bring it back to the cottage. Plate it, mix yourself a drink, and you have a romantic dinner for two!) The cottage has ample light and three ceiling fans to circulate the air. We did not need the AC during our stay. And, we loved the shower. It's got a rainwater shower head, and a great view! We also appreciated the use of the beach chairs, beach towels, and large cooler. Thank you Mary & Jay for creating a perfect little villa!
GREAT AND APTLY NAMED VACATION COTTAGE
Our stay at RC was great. Every morning we had breakfast on the terrace overlookin beautiful Coral Bay. We were able to locate RC through use of our Garmin (North America includes USVI and PR). Local restaurants were all fun. Do your grocery shopping at Starfish. Reaonable prices great selection. Be sure to check out National Park Service tours at Mongoose Junction Friends of the Park Office.
My husband and I stayed at Romance Cottage on our first trip to St. John. We had a wonderful trip, and this was due in significant part to our stay at the cottage. Mary and Jay are inviting hosts, and they welcomed us and provided tips on restaurants and good snorkeling spots. The cottage also has books and maps for guest's use. The cottage is exactly as pictured and has everything you need, including beach chairs and a cooler. The drive to the cottage from the main road is easy, and has great views. We would highly recommend a stay at Romance Cottage!
Quiet & tranquil Coral Bay, St. John has shopping, restaurants and available water sports activities. It is minutes from the beautiful North Shore beaches and National Park trails & ruins.
