About Diane Derzis

Kayak fishing in Little Lagoon - this huge speckled trout was released back into the lagoon as soon as the photo was taken.

Why Diane Derzis chose Gulf Shores

The property is surrounded by old growth, sand live oak and it's like being in a tree house -an isolated bit of 'old Gulf Shores' that's close to everything and we love it!

What makes this house unique

Facing south to the gulf, the house is fronted by Stanton Creek which connects to other canals leading to Little Lagoon. The creek is a natural wetland, excellent for bird-watching and we love to canoe and kayak in the lagoon, which is a great place to fish or just watch the sunset. We're just a 5-minute walk to the public beach and 'The Hangout' in Gulf Shores, which makes this a great spot for the annual Shrimp Festival and we have a private balcony for the 4th of July Fireworks.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Debra, John and I wanted to thank you again for the wonderful time we had at Green Heron House from Sept. 5th thru 11th. We cannot stop talking about it. That was one of the most relaxing vacations we have had in a long time and look forward to coming back next year. The house was wonderful as well as how close it was to everything. The restaurants were good, especially Desoto's, which we would highly recommend to anyone. The beach was so close, and the gift shops as well as convenient to grocery stores. Could not ask for a better location. Thank you for making us feel so at home.

My family had a wonderful experience staying here. All the amenities you could need and 2 minutes from the beach, food, shopping, and much more! We will hopefully be back soon!

Great Location

  • 3 of 5

The house met our needs. My only complaints are that the shower water-pressure was very low and took a long time to rinse off. The other complaint was the stove was hard to work with. The back-left burner was real ambitious, while the front right burner not so much. I couldn't get the left front burner to work. We managed to cook though. I have always used gas stoves, so I am not used to electric. Diane, the owner was very friendly and accommodating. So glad we got to meet and talk with her. The house is in a great location. Very close to the beach and to restaurants. Overall we had a great vacation.

Perfect getaway

The Green Heron was perfect for our family! We had everything we needed to feel at home. The beach was within walking distance. Plenty of restaurants and things to do minutes away. We will return to the Green Heron!

Traditional and cozy.....

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Green Heron House. It is close to the main drag in Gulf Shores and very pet friendly. It reminds me of the houses that were at the Gulf when I was a child. Quite, simple and accessible.
