Hike, Picnic, Beach Comb, and Enjoy the Local Wilderness. Ducks and geese are often heard near the two ponds across the street. The bay is two blocks south and great for kayaking.
From Hwy 101 Manzanita is a mile north for shopping, beach combing and dining. Manzanita has bike rentals and has a cozy small village feel to it. Fun shops for browsing, food and sweets. The beach is ample for walking with a spectacular view of Neah-kah-nie mountain.
The lovely Oswald West State Park will soothe the insatiable nature lover with its many winding paths through deep green forests, along crystal creeks that lead into snug ocean coves. A favorite among surfers and home to Cape Falcon Trailhead, This is the very best of Oregon Coast scenery and is a within a 5 mile drive of my home. Hug Point is another favorite with a waterfall, caves and tide pool. Hug Point must be viewed in Low Tide and is 10 miles north of Ruby Wrays.
Kelly’s Brighten Marina is 6-7 miles south where you can rent boats and gear for the best crabbing on Nehalem Bay.
Horseback Riding on Manzanita beach is available during the summer months in the State Park next to my neighborhood.
Nehalem is one mile south and has wonderful family dining on the River. For Antique lovers, Wheeler is 3 miles south over the Nehalem bridge and is home to an extensive Antique mall that one could spend hours of blissful browsing. If you tire of looking don’t fret, a lovely espresso café is a door or two away to reinvigorate your body and spirits for another round of shopping.
Travel north from Ruby Wray’s to the infamous Cannon Beach or Seaside. Each has its own charm and appeal. Cannon Beach is home to many shops and caters to ample visitor parking. The famous Haystack rock and Ecola Park are in proximity. Cannon Beach is 15 miles to the north. Seaside is a family fun town with carnival games, bumper cars, bike rentals and paddle boats. It is also home to a Factory Outlet Mall that houses such stores as Eddie Bauer and Dress Barn. Seaside is 21 miles north of Ruby Wray’s.
To the south 24 miles is the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Stop along the way and visit such historic towns as Rockaway Beach and Garibaldi. 20 minutes west of downtown Tillamook are the quaint towns of Netarts and Oceanside. Cape Meares Lighthouse and famous Octopus Tree are a short distance from Oceanside.
After a day of sightseeing and fun come home and relax on a large L shaped couch with ottoman in Ruby Wray’s living room. Smart/Roku TV, Wi Fi Blu Ray DVD Player and dual VHS/DVD player in living room. Moderate library of VHS and DVD selections. Indulge in outdoor cooking on the grill or sit around a fire in the back yard to reminisce the day.
