About Craig Lovell
I am a photographer based in Carmel Valley, California. I have a large library from around the world with a large selection of images of San Miguel de Allende. You can see my work at www.eaglevisions.net Click on the What's New section to see San Miguel.
Craig Lovell purchased this House in 2005
Why Craig Lovell chose Colonia San Antonio
We fell in love with the property and the incredible art collection of Robert Sommerlot who was the previous owner. He lived in San Miguel for over 35 years, was an author, gallery owner and director of plays. We feel as if we are the curators of his art and furniture collections which graces the property.
What makes this House unique
The house is located in the wonderful neighborhood of San Antonio very close to the San Antonio Church, the heart of the bario. We are far enough off of the main drag to have less traffic yet close enough to be close to the action.

Gorgeous home with a wonderful feel
We loved staying at Casa Christina. There are many more modern homes being built here, we looked at a few, which only made us appreciate the classic beauty and art at Casa Christina all the more! Maria is a gem and made our trip 10x's more enjoyable. We will be back next year!
Amazing property owner and staff. Very communicative and accommodating. Only glitch is that household items could use an upgrade (towels, pillows, etc).
Charming and comfortable, within walking distance to downtown
We were a party of five, expecting a comfortable place within walking distance of main SMA attractions. Casa Christina is quite large, with 5 common areas large enough for the 5 of us, and 3 large bedrooms as well. Weather was hot, and we had to deal with some mosquitoes (get some insect repellent). There is no AC, and since during our stay we had unusually hot weather, rooms were hot (some fans would be nice). Also, bring your own shampoo (or buy one). Small inconveniences, but I would still give this place a 5 star. Maria (maid) was super nice, and we had her fix breakfast a couple of times (she cooks quite well). We let Maria choose the menu and we all were delighted (simple, local cuisine). Decorations are nice, and quite charming. Would I stay there again?: Definitely! I would encourage owners to provide fans on every bedroom, and maybe some toiletries (not sure about the latter since I'd rather bring my own).
Thanks for your excellent review and comments. I do believe there are fans in the two upstairs bedrooms. The lower bedroom stays much cooler. I will check to make sure they are there with Maria and that she pulls them out for the guests during the hot months. May is the hottest month of the year and Casa Christina with its high ceilings and good air flow stays cooler than many houses. So glad you enjoyed Maria's cooking which we always do when we go down. Look forward to hosting you again sometime.
Beautiful San Miguel, beautiful Casa Christina
Perfect villa for our family of 6 to spend a 4-day weekend n SMDA. Casa Christina is so lovely it was sometimes hard to leave the jardin, or the courtyard or the rooftop to venture out to town! Quiet, safe neighborhood, easy access to everything. Maria made us a delicious breakfast one morning - what a treat. We'll be back!
So glad you enjoyed Casa Christina and appreciated the garden, courtyards and rooftop palapa. We look forward to hosting you again sometime soon!
A more traditional Mexican home - not new or contemporary, but very spacious and comfortable
Great location next to San Antonio church. Within blocks there is a bakery, many restaurants, a tailor, shoe repair, and many other small businesses that seem authentically Mexican.....not the glitz of tourist-oriented places in Centro. Lovely gardens in the courtyards, and the rooftop has a good view of the city and sunset for a group gathering. The home itself carries the spirit and art collection of Bob Somerlott, the previous owner. The housekeeper, Maria, was lovely.
Thanks Roger - So glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Christina.
Beautiful home full of beautiful art
We loved our stay at Casa Christina. While we were in San Miguel, we were invited to a few friend's houses, all nice in their own way but none that we liked nearly as much as Craig's beautiful home. Close by the beautiful San Antonio Cathedral, you are in a real San Miguel neighborhood, but are close enough - about a ten minute walk - to get to the the center of town. You're also close to the organic food and arts collective, Mercado Sano, great spot to pick up fresh, local produce and more. Also, check out the descriptions of the artwork in the house and enjoy them while you can, much of the collection traces back to the artists who were running and teaching at the Instituto Allende in the 60s and earlier.
Hope you enjoy the house as much as we did!
So glad you had a wonderful stay at Casa Christina and enjoyed the house and the art collection. I hope we can host you again sometime.
All the best
Craig and Christina
Casa Christina is located in San Antonio district of the city at, a friendly neighborhood conveniently located only 5 minutes from the world famous Instituto (see below) and only 10-15 minutes walk from the center of town. Unlike many areas of the city, it is not a steep climb from San Antonio to the center. Everything you need is available right here in the neighborhood. On the steps of San Antonio Church is a small grocery store. Be sure to spend some time in the San Antonio Church Plaza to get the feel of this unique area. Ancha San Antonio (the main street 2 minutes east of the Casa) has a multitude of stores with everything from ice cream parlors, to pharmacies, to video rental stores, to restaurants.
