About the property

Spacious 6 BD 5 BA lodge sleeps 15. Add the adjacent cottage to sleep up to 25.

Completely renovated and renewed spacious 4000 square foot lodge on a secluded stretch of the Deschutes River with forest, wetland and mountain views. The house is located on a very private 2-acre site, at the end of a private road, just 10 minutes from the Sunriver Resort and half-an-hour from world-class skiing at Mt. Bachelor. This is an exceptional riverfront site with river and mountain views. The wetlands directly across the river are home to a range of enchanting wildlife -- including deer, elk, river otter, foxes, chipmunks, ducks, geese, eagles, and many other species of bird.

We are close enough to Sunriver to enjoy its amenities, many of which are accessible for full- and half-day rates, though away from all the hustle and bustle that comes with resort living.

The lodge is beautifully appointed with high quality, comfortable furnishings throughout. It has two large and spacious living areas, upstairs and down, six bedrooms and five bathrooms, a wrap-around covered deck with plenty of sturdy tables and chairs for outdoor dining, a large gas grill, outdoor hot tub, two large flat-panel TVs, free DSL and WiFi, plus all of the amenities that you might expect from such a place. (Please refer to the "amenities" tab for further details on these.)

The main level of the lodge features the Master Suite with king bed and large windows overlooking the river and wetlands beyond, plus access to the deck leading to the hot tub on the lower level. Two other bedrooms are on the main level: one with queen bed, across the hall from the master, the other with two twins. These two bedrooms share a common bath.

The lower level of the lodge has two bedrooms and a living area all with views of the river and wetlands. The hot tub is on this level, just outside the downstairs living area. Three bedrooms downstairs all have their own bathrooms; two with king beds, one with a queen. The lower lodge level features a second large living area that includes our very popular pool table, couches around the TV, and an additional futon couch that can be converted into a double bed. There is an additional sofa bed in one of the king bedrooms too. We provide bedding for both sofa/futon beds, as well as for all the other beds in the lodge of course!

If you have more than 15 in your party (or some members of your group would like their own bed/bedroom), you might be interested in adding "The Cottage" next door to your reservation. Together the lodge and the cottage sleep up to 25. When rented with the lodge, the cottage costs just an additional $165 per night.

The 1200 square foot cottage has five small bedrooms -- four with double beds, one with twin bunks -- a nice open living/dining area and a full kitchen. In addition to regular living room furniture, the cottage has couches alongside the windows which can serve as extra beds for a youngster or two (if they bring their own sleeping bags)! The cottage is also located right on the river. For more information, see VRBO listing 153385.

The Riverside Lodge and Cottage share the private dock on the property, for ease of access to the river for swimming, floating and river trips. This is a great put-in/take-out spot!

(Please bring all your own water toys and PFDs.)

The Riverside Lodge, with or without the cottage depending on the size of your group, is ideal for reunions/gatherings of families and friends, as well as for business retreats. A perfect place for a large group to enjoy all that Central Oregon has to offer.

An additional lodge on the same stretch of river (500 feet upstream) is also available--check out the 'Mountain View Retreat' VRBO #46606. Groups as large as 42 can be accommodated using all three houses.

TO BOOK: If you click on the "book now" link, you will first be required to pay an additional VRBO service fee of approximately 5%. You will then need to contact us directly to make the rental payments -- 50% due now, the balance due 45-days before arrival. To save on the service fee, call or email us directly for an exact quote which will probably be more accurate than the one generated by the website, especially if you are renting more than one of the houses on this property.

About The Owner

Four friends who have owned property together in this area before, we jumped at the opportunity to buy this beautiful place!

The Owner purchased this lodge in 2007

Why The Owner chose Bend

Exceptional riverfront property near all sorts of outdoor recreation opportunities -- hiking, skiing, river floats and whitewater rafting, fishing, swimming, golf -- you name it! A peaceful, secluded spot right on the river without the hustle, bustle of being in a resort. With the lodge plus the cottage we can accommodate large family groups with friends; put the youngsters in the cottage, gather for meals at the lodge, and have plenty of room to spread out.

What makes this lodge unique

Enjoying all the amenities of the houses in this peaceful, idyllic setting right on the Deschutes River, with easy access to the recreational opportunities described above.

(Sorry NO WEDDINGS! And NO LARGE GATHERINGS beyond the stated occupancy of this property. Thank you!)

Great family retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent Thanksgiving at the Lodge and it was fantastic! There were 12 of us and we fit comfortably in the house and around the table for Turkey dinner. The river view was fantastic - we saw two bald eagles - and even had snow! Highly recommended for anyone who wants a remote, quiet retreat!

Perfect Family Reunion Spot

  • 5 of 5

The lodge and cottage made for a wonderful reunion for our family of 5 married daughters, our son in laws, and grandchildren! The teenagers (12 and up) got to stay in the cottage . One granddaughter wrote, "I loved the cottage. It was so fun and perfect!" They liked the independence and playing board games in the downstairs table nook.

We liked the spacious up-to-date kitchen with lots of modern appliances. The large family room was perfect for our evening talent shows and games. We enjoyed the big dining table and eating tables on the balcony. The grandkids liked the large wooded area in the backyard for playing capture the flag and relaxing in our hammocks! My favorite was watching the grandkids run down to the dock, jump into the river, run back up, rinse their feet, and jump back into the hot tub! The evening and early morning views of the river were spectacular. What a peaceful, fun and perfect spot for our family reunion! We highly recommend this lovely home and cottage.

The Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5

Supper on the deck overlooking the river at sunset; Kids lying on the dock -- stargazing and watching the meteor shower; Young teens "hanging" in the cottage -- a place of their own . . . and privacy for the adults in the lodge; Oldsters relaxing in the hot tub after a day of hiking. The Deschutes Riverside Retreat was the perfect place for our family gathering of 18.

Beautiful, spacious vacation site

  • 5 of 5

The Riverside Lodge is a beautiful home & a wonderful retreat location right on the Little Deschutes River. We rented the Lodge and the Cabin for a family reunion of 23 people. The Lodge is large enough that we could easily make meals, eat indoor or out on the front balcony deck, and play games without bumping into each other. We also rented the Cabin for the younger folks so that we would have enough room for everyone. The cabin is somewhat rustic with small bedrooms, but it worked out great to have the extra bedrooms and daytime was spent together at the Lodge or evenings in the hot tub. Hanging out on the dock in front of the Cabin for evening sunsets or fishing was pretty fun, too. The dock also can accommodation a fishing boat. Trip highlights included exploring Lava Lands and Benham Falls, hiking along the Crooked River at beautiful Smith Rock, touring the High Desert Museum, taking the ski lift to Mt. Bachelor and floating the Little Deschutes River to the Cabin. It was a wonderful reunion and I would highly recommend this home for large groups and the Deschutes area for many outdoor wonders.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Kathy for your fabulous review! We're so glad you all had such a great time. (BTW the lodge and cottage are actually on the BIG Deschutes River, not the Little Deschutes.)

Great site for family gathering.

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathering of 8 adults and 4 children (all under 3) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house provided great sleeping space (allowed for quiet spaces for young children). Beds were very comfortable and kitchen and dining setup worked well. Our family particularly enjoyed the location, a beautiful quiet spot right on the Deschutes. Grocery stores, Costco etc. were a 20 minute or so drive away in Bend and the market in Sun River only 5 minutes or so away. Running, mountain biking, road biking, fishing, skiing all easily accessible. The home itself is clean, spacious and comfortable. It shows signs of use and this is meant to be a compliment because it does not give the feeling of being "fragile" . We are already looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful big house on the Deschutes River~!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful house with a big deck overlooking the Deschutes River, just about 10 min from Sun River, and a delightful place to stay. We had a big group, and the house is big enough to accommodate several families. A beautiful kitchen to cook in, a nice yard with hot tub and deck to sit out on and sip drinks. The pool table was a hit with the teenagers, and the televisions were great for watching March Madness! The bedrooms were nice, and lots of bathrooms for privacy. We will definitely be going back to this house! Thank you!
