About Chris and Camille
We are Chris and Camille Oliver. We live in the main house above our two cabins and feel very lucky to be the stewards of this slice of heaven. This is our first summer renting on VRBO and looking forward to sharing our lovely cottages with new guests. Chris is a software engineer and Camille is a glass artist. We enjoy great food, traveling and lake living.
Chris and Camille purchased this Cabin in 2018
Why Chris and Camille chose Alden
Our love for our property started the first day we we walked around the property. It was a lovely late June day and the sun was bright. Once we stepped out to the end of the dock we knew this had to be our new home. The view is stunning!
What makes this Cabin unique
The air is always fresh and the water is clean. Because it's a no wake lake it's quiet and peaceful. The wildlife is abundant. The fishing is great and the birdwatching is delightful. It's truly a retreat into nature.

Oak Cabin is a quaint lake cabin. It was clean, very well supplied kitchen, new mattresses that were comfortable, nice thick towels. The bathroom is small but adequate. The screened in porch was such a delight - eating all meals there and relaxing in the morning and afternoon observing and listening to nature's sounds.
There is a loon family on the lake calling out in the morning and saw an eagle swoop down for a fish from the lake! Fishing was excellent from the dock catching many bluegill & a few bass - what fun. Butch's store just a short drive sold bait and a daily fishing license is available for only $10 - buy what days you want to fish. Did not swim or use the row boats or kayaks but someone staying the Pine cabin did. The lake is calm and soothing.
Camille was quick to respond to any questions or requests. She offered suggestions for things to do and places to eat. We enjoyed Blue Water Bistro a few times and Dockside is OK. Bring your breakfast foods because there are not many breakfast places close by - why leave the lake's morning glory.
We also played golf at Schuss mountain and Hawk's Eye near Bellaire. Schuss mountain is a classic course with dog legs and small greens, back nine is a different designer w/ large greens. Favorite was Hawk's Eye - very scenic w/ some elevation changes and large undulating greens.
It's not a far drive to Traverse City - enjoyed the Cherry festival and after check out we drove over to Sleeping Bear Dunes - a magnificent site.
I originally wanted to stay on Torch Lake - we did swim in Torch and experienced the "Sand Bar". But I am so glad we chose Thayer Lake - it was the peaceful retreat that I needed. There is no WIFI but available at restaurants and didn't miss the TV! Fans helped make it comfortable - temps got warm on last 2 days. There were a few ants spotted but hey - it is a "lake" cabin in the woods! There is spray available for use and that took care of it. Chris and Camille have taken the time to make the cabins comfortable. Nice to have the picnic table, chairs and grill.
I would definitely stay here again.
