About The Owner

My husband (Jim) and I met at National Business College, Roanoke,Va 52 years ago. Jim took a job with the F.W. Woolworth CO. and we traveled around for 17 years with his company. After leaving Woolworthe we settled in Abingdon, VA starting a wonderful successful small business called Jimbo's General Store which we operated for 17 years. As fate would have it however, we came to visit Jim's brother in Lake Lure and just fell in love with this area. The beauty and lifestyle of the NC foothills and the Lake Lure area in particular is where we decided to call home and someday retire. I enjoy sharing my love for this area with guests that come and stay at our vacation cabins & cottages.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1994

What makes this cabin unique

Great stay at Blue Skies Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The weather was perfect, the cabin was gorgeous, I wish we could have stayed longer. On Saturday, we went to Chimney Rock State Park and climbed to the top of the rock. It was well worth the climb. We tried to visit the shops in the town, however, we could not find a place to park so we went back to our beautiful cabin to have dinner and relax. The cabin had everything you could need for a great stay. The only suggestion I would make would be to perhaps have an inexpensive spice rack on hand with garlic salt, celery salt, basil etc., spices that most travelers would forget to pack to make their meals taste better. I asked my boyfriend if he had any comments, his only comment was the shower head in the biggest bathroom did not function properly due to a water saver switch which could not be adjusted.Other than that, our stay was great, the owner was very helpful with any questions we had. We would absolutely come back again.

our stay

  • 3 of 5

we stayed here hoping for a romantic get away but when we arrived, we found that there wasnt a jacuzzi and the fireplace wouldnt work. Also, we didnt know that this time of year the city is basically shut down. The lake even had no water in it. It would have been nice to know these things. I think the price was too much and it would be nice to check in earlier so we have more time. We had to drive over 4 hours to get there and checkin/out times limited our stay. We were also told to call when we got there and call when we leave so we could be checked in and out but the owner never answered or came by.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry you were not happy with your stay. All my cabins give you a list of the amenities for you to decide the cabin of your choice. I have 3 cabins with Jacuzzis in them but they do not accommodate your pet. The Sundance cabin is pet friendly and has a gas log fireplace. If you had asked I would have been happy to allow an earlier check in. The lake was down for repairs to the dam I have no control over that. This is a seasonal area so not much to do in immediate area but lots to do in a 25 mile radius, horse back riding in Lake Lure, Biltmore House, Asheville, ice skating, historial Hendersonville, etc. When you came for your visit my husband was in the hospital very ill. So sorry I was not able to respond but thought you would be fine with all the info I had provided you for your stay. I do apologize to you. Sincerely, Pat Cook

Delightful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed 5 wonderful nights at River Landing. The cabin is lovely, beautifully furnished, comfortable, and very clean. We had everything we needed. The screened porch looking out on the river would be a great place to hang out in warm weather, though we weren't able to take advantage of it due the December weather.

The only negative factors were the slow WiFi and poor (almost nonexistent) cell phone coverage. But then it's a remote location, which is kind of the idea for a mountain getaway, isn't it? :) If you're prepared to be out of touch with the rest of the world while on vacation, this is a great spot to do it.

Great central location

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed the three nights we spent in the cabin. We found it to be just as promised in regards to comfort and cleanliness (it was extremely clean which was very important to us). The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with all that we needed. Easy to access and plenty of parking. We used Lake Lure as our "base" and did day trips to Black Mountain, Waynesville, and Hendersonville. Visted several of the local wineries, and sampled some of the wine while watching the sun set from the spacious screened porch. The owner gave great instructions and was always available if we needed her. The only negative -- Wi-FI was slow.

Owner's Response: Vicky, thank you so much for your great review. I so appreciate your business. I do apologize for the Wifi. The Wifi and cell service in this Gorge are a big problem for all of us that live here. Thank you so much for booking Autumn Splendor and I so hope you will come back for a future stay and tell all your family and friends about my cabins. Sincerely, Pat Cook
