About Rose Laing
I am a retired school teacher, and along with my husband and brother own the McNeil Cottage. The cottage has been in our family since the mid seventies. Before that it belonged to our uncle and aunt (mom's sister), who were the original owners. We acquired the cottage from our parents in 1993. This cottage has a long tradition of hosting families for summer vacation fun and relaxation. Our own family enjoys the time there every summer, and hope you will too!
Rose Laing purchased this Cottage in 1993
Why Rose Laing chose Lake Leelanau
If you enjoy a relaxing, unplugged (no cable, no phone, no internet) vacation, with breakfast at the water's edge and the days filled with all that Leelanau has to offer, come to the McNeil cottage. Enjoy a midnight swim under the stars or a romantic bonfire - enjoy the lake life.
What makes this Cottage unique
The lake is large, beautiful, and supports all water related activities. The sunsets are nature's gift each evening. The location is private, but convenient. It is a perfect place to unplug and unwind from the stresses of life. If you enjoy a natural setting, you will enjoy our cottage. It is a place that we love!

Up North Lakeside fun
This was our first family vacation. It was a long time coming and this cottage ended up being amazing for us all to unwind and relax together. The shower was hot and the beds were comfortable. This place would be best for two couples and one or two small children. Also, the row boat was an excellent addition. PS. I have Verizon and got service just fine out here.
Serine!! It was very cozy. And so beautiful. Great access to everything in the peninsula. Love the view of the stars, sunrise, sunset and lake. Cottage was equipped with everything that you may not think to pack.
What a peaceful place
Had a great time at the cottage. The view was stunning. Ducks, swans geese in the morning and evening. Really nice deck to enjoy a morning coffee. The cottage was clean and very well stocked. Would come back in a heart beat!
Awesome place! Great Lakefront on Lake Leelanau!
Cottage was very nice. The porch is awesome with great views of Lake Leelanau. We truly enjoyed it.
We had a great week at the cottage. It was very comfortable.
Beautiful Location, No Wifi, Dated
We loved the location of this cabin. The deck and yard were stunning and the views gorgeous. There was great outdoor furniture, a nice grill, and a firepit. In the good weather, it was great sitting outside. The water depth here is about 3-4 feet for a long way out so it wasn't ideal for jumping off the dock or swimming but was fun for paddleboarding and boating. The inside was very clean but we were less enthusiastic about the interior. The front room facing the water, which was a former screened in porch, wasn't bad and the kitchen was fine, but the rest of the cabin was a bit depressing. The beds were old and small, the furniture throughout was shabby, the master bedroom closet had a dresser in it and the drawers didn't work, so it was hard to put clothing away, the closet in the other bedroom was very tiny, the lighting at night was dim, the ceilings were very low and the paneling made it dark. The owners provided no beach towels and only 3 sets of older mismatched towels for our use. There was no bedding for the bed couch but the mattress on it looked tired and saggy. When you travel on a plane, packing beach towels and extra bedding is not realistic. There was no Wifi and working from the Verizon hot spot was impossible which was very frustrating but our fault for not reading the fine print. There is no dishwasher and no washer/dryer and we knew this so it was fine. The owners did not check in with us during the week to see if things were okay or if we had even made it there and we never met or talked with them. We were able to get in easily which was a plus. We should have read the listing more carefully.
