Perfect accommodations for a large group!

  • 5 of 5

My family had the best time together and do think that part of it was due to such variety of things to do and the space to do it in - inside and outside of the house. We loved exploring Yosemite NP and then coming back to the house and heading down to the lake for a quick swim. Our party was ranged in age from 2 years old all the way up to 70 and everyone was happy! Thank you for helping make it such a memorable for us.

Really great with some deal-breaking issues for me

  • 3 of 5

This was one of the best equipped places we have stayed and the owner put up with my barrage of questions, some of which his written communique's had already addressed. It's a lovely area, reasonable distance to Yosemite. The house was accommodating, nice layout, lovely view. BUT for me, there were 3 absolute (but easily fixable) deal breakers. 1. HOT, never go there in summer unless you don't mind 85 degrees in the house. The owner texted me a picture showing the temp in the house was 72 but that was in the morn and the nights got down to 60 so were fine. Except the loft STAYED HOT ALL NIGHT EVEN WITH FANS. Also, the thermostat is in the coolest part of the house in a hallway. The temperature on the fan remote was more accurate and consistently read 81- 87 degrees except at night or early morn. 2. The master bed, though comfy, is so high off the ground, not even my 6'2" brother in law could just sit down on it, say to put on his shoes. I had to struggle just to get in at night but no one else in our party of 11 was willing to take that room because of the bed height. 3. AND, there are no window coverings in the master bedroom (it's quite private so that's ok) and the sun pours beautifully in in the morning. We only wanted to sleep in 2 of our 7 days there but couldn't sleep past 5:30am. SO, if you like leaping into beds, can sleep in bright sun, and like the heat (other seasons would be fab.), then this is a great spot. Although be advised the loft futon is unsleepable for adults. Our smallest was maybe 90 pounds and she felt the slats painfully through the 'mattress' and no one in our group could sleep there. I don't think we're extra picky. If you don't need that futon, then no prob. And, really, overall, it was very well supplied, especially the kitchen. And the minimal required clean up was much appreciated. Bath towels were a bit limited (6 bath towels, 3 hand towels, 3 face cloths) but we brought extra and it was fine. And the owner was responsive and gracious. Hope this helps.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback. We have done vacation rentals for approx 12 years and continuously make improvements based on our renter comments. 1. Temperature-Although we do not generally get complaints about our swamp cooler, during your stay, the temperature outside was 13 degrees higher than usual. The swamp cooler does cool the house down pretty well and we also provide additional fans in addition to all the ceiling fans for extra hot days. After we went through with you the best way to keep the house cool, you seemed pleased with the temperature so we are surprised about your comment. Regardless , we are in the process of purchasing a new air conditioning unit which will replace the swamp cooler very soon. 2. You are our first customer that has ever complained about our master bedroom. This is the room we usually get the most compliments. The bed is 34 inches high and is common for a master suite bed. You mention that it is too tall to put on your shoes. We have a comfortable rocking chair as well as a desk chair in the master suite that could have been used to sit on while putting on your shoes. We do take your feedback serious and purchased a small step stool just in case a future renter should need it. We also never heard of anyone complain about no shades in the master bedroom since it is private and the room is situated so direct sun does not shine through. We have had many compliments of how people can see the stars and trees from the bed. If we get another person concerned, we may consider darkening blinds, but since you are the first, we are going to keep as is. All other rooms have blinds for those who prefer a dark room. 3. I agree with you that the futon in the loft is suitable mainly for children or one adult. Most full size futons are. I have to admit, you are the first to complain about it. We also have a very comfortable queen size portable mattress in one of the bedroom closets that could have been used. If you would have brought this to our attention, we would have informed you of the extra portable mattress. 4. We provide a total of 16 towel sets (bath, hand towel, and wash cloth) as well as 16 towels for the lake to accommodate up to 16 guests. We were there before you so we are certain that is what was provided. You never brought this to our attention during your numerous phone calls during your visit. Thanks again for your feedback as it helps us to make improvements for future renters.

Very nice. Good location

  • 4 of 5

Overall, a nice home which accommodated our large family very well. Close to the beach and not too far from the pool. Road closures in the area made travel very challenging, but at no fault of the home’s location. Plumbing under kitchen sink was leaky, there was a pan to catch water under the sink which overflowed and made for a “fun” cleanup. Would’ve been nice to have had some forewarning on the issue. Very minor though, and that was the extent of any negatives in the home. Would recommend, and would stay again.

Owner's Response: Hi Mike, Thanks for the review. We are happy you enjoyed our home with the exception of the leak. We were unaware that there was a leak. If you would have contacted us, we would have sent someone out to fix it for you. The people after you must have fixed it because we did not see a leak when we were recently there. However, we do see there was a leak since there was a pan under the sink. Thanks again for the feedback. Kevin and Cindy Smith

This is a great home in a great location. We loved spending time at the lake and were close enough to drive into Yosemite as well. Host was very responsive and check in/out was really easy.
