Beautiful and a great location.

I hope to go back to Santa Margarita. When I do I would stay there again. Gorgeous gardens and a wonderful view. I totally recommend it. The home was very spacious and it was great sleeping with air conditioning as June was very hot. It was also nice having your own bathroom, which was updated and very clean. The rental agency we deal with was great too.

Perfect stay at this charming hillside apt. Spacious, quiet, safe, comfortable & beautiful views.

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful holiday week! Arriving to S. Margherita by train, our party of 5 met our host, Gaia, for check-in at the AR92 office (short walk downhill by waterfront). Gaia provided helpful emails prior to arrival and advice during our stay. She personally escorted us to the apt, retracing some steps then going uphill over a bridge to the villa. This uphill walk requires some mobility but our group (ages 50s-early 70s) managed it without issue, even with rollaboard luggage. Once or twice daily, we walked to town, or to the train station, or ferry. We visited Portofino, Camoglia, and Cinque Terre -- all great. S. Margherita is wonderful, too, including Villa Durazzo.

Reaching the apt, a gated entrance opens to a wide terrace overlooking villas & marina below. Two seating/dining areas form the terrace sides: one elevated & sunnier with better views; the other under shade trees. We enjoyed breakfast and evening time on the open side and lunches on the shady side. Seat cushions for chairs were provided.

Apt entry is through lockable shutter doors then windowed doors. We received keys for the doors, the gate, and recycling bins just downhill. At night, we locked doors from inside and felt very secure. The two center windows have remote-controlled security blinds. You have sea views from the window doors and center windows -- great for gazing at ships, ferries, regatas, and sunrise/sunset.

The tiered main room has a big couch, chairs & TV below and a large dining table above. There's a homey, lived-in feel to this room. Kitchen has a gas stove, dishwasher, fridge, and plenty of plates, cups, and utensils for food prep. We enjoyed fresh pastas, pestos, meats, fruit salads, omelettes, parfaits, pastries, and fresh coffee courtesy of the provided French press. There's a nice bakery and food market nearby on the way to the AR92 office. All restaurants in town were great, too. We especially enjoyed the delicious pasta, pizza, risotto, and fish choices. And the sweets!

The 3 bedrooms we used were comfortable -- 2 queen beds in 2 rooms, and 2 single beds in 1 room. Having 4 nice bathrooms was great. Plenty of towels were provided. We didn't use the bunk room and kept that door closed due to a plastic-like smell inside. In one queen bed room, there was a dehumidifier that ran continuously which we emptied a few times. It didn't really bother our guest staying in that room.

Thank you, Gaia & Lucy, for an unforgettable vacation!

unforgettable holidays!

  • 5 of 5

Santa Margherita has a great charm, despite the cold we lived at best these days, the apartment is very cozy, the beds and mattresses have recently been changed and offer a great comfort, as well as all the spaces of the apartment, the terrace overlooking the sea is amazing , has been a pleasure to relax in the large garden . My family and I enjoyed the time very much , the manager was always available, we visited many places and coming back home was a pleasure , well maintained apartment , clean and well heated, wi-fi excellent!

I absolutely recommend !

Nice town - shame about the flat

  • 2 of 5

The flat was in a great location, not far to the restaurants and sea, and a short walk to the station which was very useful as train is best way to get around the area.

However the beds were a disgrace, so old that they had to put wooden slats under a thin foam mattress. Terrible for back aches and worst bed I have ever slept in.

The flat smells of damp/mould when you go in, supposedly due to high humidity levels in the region. There is a constant loud hum heard in the lounge/dining area and two bedrooms due to a loud humidifier that is on constantly and cant even be turned off at night.

So I would definitely recommend the town but not this flat. The local agency AR92 were however very helpful but there was nothing they could do.

Experience what it’s really like to live on the Italian Riviera! This lovely property with garden & sea view is situated in a great location, walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants but slightly away from it all to also be able to relax, and sunbath in this delightful garden. Day trips can be made to the Cinqueterre, Genova, Pisa to name just a few. Walking distance to beach, ferry, bus & train station.

Every day the local fishermen sell their daily catch in the local market, lobster, prawns, sea bream, tuna whatever takes your fancy. The great thing about this property is that rather than feeling like a tourist in this part of Italy you actually get the chance to live it.

Santa Margherita has a stylish selection of shops, bars, ice cream parlors, restaurants and beach. Portofino is a short coastal walk or if you prefer there is a local ferry that shuttles back and forth.

You can also visit the World Heritage Site 'Cinqueterre' by train or boat leaving daily from Santa Margherita.

There are so many beautiful places to visit in this part of Italy.. whether you love walking, driving, exploring....
