About the property

` Welcome to the "new Sunflower cottage"! Mike and Kathi Stang have been vacationing in Sunflower cottage for 17 years. When they purchased Sunflower last October, they knew what they wanted to do with Sunflower...brighten it and add storage features for guests. They spent some time at IKEA, and found the latest storage units to furnish their new home. The result is a bright, sunny, very functional space.

Sunflower sleeps 6 with a queen bed in the MBR. The bed "pops-up" so luggage can be stored below. The new shelf and basket storage units in each BR allow for optinum organization. The 2BR has a new bunk set. The corner couch in the living room, has an easy pop-up panel that creates a queen sofa sleeper. There is also a storage feature for extra bedding.

Mike and Kathi love to cook when vacationing in Door County. They have added extra storage features to the kitchen, as well as all new dinnerware, glasses, silverware, and gadgets. They also added a pot rack so the new set of "non stick" cookware can be stored and out of the way.

From the sunny new look on the outside, with all the new flower beds, to the cozy, clean furnishings inside, guests are going to love the "new" Sunflower cottage.

Sunflower cottage is pet friendly for friendly pets.

Awesome little cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Sunflower Cottage on Kangeroo Lake! We have been to Door County many times before, but this was our first time staying in Bailey's Harbor and we loved the location, as well as this cute little place. Loved the front porch, and the beautiful sunsets on the lake. Firepit was a big hit with the kids, and you can't beat the location for quick jaunts to Bailey's Harbor, Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Ephraim, etc. Thanks!

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time in the Sunflower! The cottage is extremely close to Kangaroo Lake where we enjoyed the kayaks and row boat. We love that it is dog friendly too ... Our Weimaraner had the time of her life up there. We can't wait to go back again.

*Be sure to bring bath towels!

Great little cottage on Kangaroo Lake

  • 4 of 5

Perfect setting for me, my mom and mini dachshund. The kitchen is very well equipped with tools to prepare meals, the appliances are new, and the Weber Grill and grilling tools are all available. Our neighbors the week we spent there were nice and just about everyone had a dog. I think the cottage would be a bit tight for six people, but if you spent most of your time outdoors - plenty of room for sleeping. Storage has been cleverly added for everyone's gear. Just one drawback for us, no sandy beach area and so we were only comfortable with enjoying the lake view. The kids at the resort didn't mind that one bit and jumped off the dock, kyaked and played happily with water toys. The property is clean and well managed. We had a great time at Sunflower Cottage!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind comments. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay with us. Regarding the space, your are correct, it is tight for six people. However, we wanted people to know they can fit six in there (using the pull-out sofa) in case they want to avoid the expense of renting another cottage. And, like you said, with all of the wonderful things to do and see and eat in Door County, why would anyone want to spend there time inside?

Ok for 2 but not 6

  • 3 of 5

Kitchen has a nice assortment of items in it like most home rentals. Judie was great to work with and very helpful. Cute cottage but was much smaller than we expected inside. I dont know how you could fit 6 people here and essentials and possibly pets unless you were always outside. I was also surprised at the lists of items to 'not do' that was in the cottage. No pets on the furniture or beds (with the minimal floor space that didnt really leave much 'ok' space). Please limit your Wi-fi usage. Please limit your water usage. When i got there i needed to put the bedding on the beds myself and then i had to strip down the bed and remake it without sheets when I left. We were the only people there this weekend and Friday work was being done on the driveway so it wasn't all that peaceful. I can totally see this being great if you had friends staying in the other cabins in this area and it was a big group thing. i think when the other cabins are occupied it will be constant traffic/people in this little cabin community.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for staying with us and giving us your feedback. You are correct that Sunflower is cozy. We tell people it can sleep six with the sofa pulled out to let them know they have the option of saving a little money by not having to rent another cottage. We ask our guests to put sheets on the beds so they know they are fresh and clean and unused, a common practice with this type of housekeeping cottage. As far as house rules, all of the furniture is new and, not having the resources of a hotel chain, we would like to keep it as nice as we can for future guests so we ask for a few common sense limitations. As far was the wifi goes, the bandwidth is shared throughout the resort and all that is available at our location, and we want to make sure everyone has access. Besides, who wants to be online when there is so much to do in beautiful Door County, right? Thanks again for staying with us and let us know if there is anything we can do to make your next visit more enjoyable.

Best vacation stay in Door County

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time in Door County last weekend. The cottage is cute, cozy and clean!!!!!! Wish I could give it 10 stars. Exceeded my expectations. Fully stocked kitchen with utensils, plates, pots and pans. The bedsheets and blankets are so soft and comfy, make us feel just like home. And to my surprise, there's a vacuum cleaner and broom that we can use to clean the carpet everyday! There's also a BBQ grill outside.

On top of that, the lake is just steps away with breathtaking view both sunrise and sunset! There are some kayaks and boats that we can use to explore the lake, unfortunately it was too windy for us to go, but we will be back!

Talked to a family who've stayed there at the cottages for a couple of years. They told us this is the best cottage in Door County. Because it's in the quiet side of Door County and the cottages are all very well maintained and cozy. The cottages are family owned.

Sunflower, we'll see you again!
