On pristine Nowland Lake, just a few minutes from downtown Charlevoix, and located in an isolated quiet valley, our clean little cottage with ceramic tile throughout, is perfect for couples or young families. 600 feet of frontage includes a sandy beach, 2 docks, and plenty of room to stroll around or play. You will enjoy a quiet respite from the busy pace of downtown Charlevoix. Fishing, swimming, and viewing wildlife (turkey, deer, coyote, mink, beaver, eagles, and loons) are the main occupations of relaxing at Nowland Lake. The western view from the cottage provides gorgeous sunset shows and amazingly dark starry nights. Take a one mile stroll up the road and buy fresh produce from Kitely Farm, or take a 10 minute drive into Charlevoix for shopping, dining, festivals, bike rentals, boat rentals, and all kinds of resort town fun. Petoskey, Bay Harbor, Harbor Springs, Boyne Mountain, and Traverse City are all within a one hour drive.
Our cottage is part of a condominium, (10 separate cottages facing west toward the lake), with unobstructed western views and 600 feet of direct frontage on the lake. Nearly all owners are 'weekenders', so it's usually very quiet. There are several fire pits available and a charcoal grill for your personal use. There are not many homes on the lake, so it is very quiet. The interior includes tile floors, comfortable furniture, and a bedroom with a queen size mattress. A shared washing machine and dryer are available for your complimentary use in a separate building.

About Beverly Hardesty
A Michigan native, I have been vacationing at Nowland Lake for the past twelve years. I grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. In high school, I spent two consecutive summers working for the Youth Conservation Corps in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and in Manistee, MI. My respect for the natural world inspired me to study Environmental Education at the University of Michigan's School of Natural Resources. My husband and I purchased the cottage in April of 2015. I We have three grown daughters, all of whom are happily married. We also have three granddaughters.

Why Beverly Hardesty chose Charlevoix
Our love of nature and the serenity of Nowland Lake drew us back to the Charlevoix area over the course of many happy summers. The cottage provides a wonderful place to stay while exploring northwest Michigan's beautiful beaches, rivers and resort towns. We renewed our wedding vows in the summer of 2014 at sunset, just yards away from the cottage's patio, and it was an experience to treasure.
What makes this Cottage unique
There is a feeling of seclusion, even though downtown Charlevoix is just a short drive away. The loons are truly unique, and you'll never forget the beautiful and eerie sounds they make at night. Because we're in a valley, far from highways, it's really quiet, and there's no light pollution, so we enjoy a night sky like no other.

Quaint, clean, quiet
Lovely small cottage. Great for couples. Great location for seeing all the sites. Petoskey, Harbor Springs are just a quick drive.
Wonderful location - very quite
We stayed here for a week as a family of four. It was a really great location - only 15 minutes to Lake Michigan. The cottage was very nice and well stocked. The only downside was with two kiddos in the only bedroom the pull out couch left a lot to be desired and after a week our backs were aching. I would definitely recommend to some with slightly older children - ours are 4 and 15 months. Had a wonderful time.
Peaceful beauty at Nowland Lake
This was our fourth stay at Nowland Lake, and our second at this cottage. "Comfy cottage" is a great description! Perfect for a couple or small family, we had everything we needed for a relaxing week. The owners take great care, and the cottage is very clean and well supplied. The lake itself is beautiful--this year we saw a mother loon feeding her babies! And it's peaceful and quiet--very important qualities for us. We hope to be back next summer!
We take great pride in providing a clean and comfortable lakeside retreat. Nowland Lake's loons are a wonderful attraction and their presence offers wildlife lovers a real treat! Our love of this region began when we rented for ten consecutive years. We are sensitive to the needs of our guests and do all that we can to keep a tidy, well-stocked "home away from home"!
We enjoyed our week at the cottage. We loved hearing the loons on the lake and it was extremely quiet. The cottage is very cozy and well stocked. The night sky is amazing since it is out of town. Great place for relaxation!
We spotted five loons on the lake this summer; it is truly a unique place to see and hear them. Our cottage is a great place to see the night sky and the Milky Way on a clear night!
Another Great Summer!
We recently concluded our third wonderful summer visit to the Charlevoix cottage and it was just as hard to leave this time as it was the first two times. From the moment of turning onto Hidden View Lane to rounding the bend and taking in the first view of Nowland Lake, we were surrounded by nature and beauty. Our travels to and from town regularly included sightings of squirrels, birds, and deer. We love to hear the loons on the lake and see them swim about while sitting on the dock. Sunsets on Nowland Lake are long and lovely. The cottage is comfortable and lends itself well to cooking in or out while lounging and enjoying the cool Michigan summer.
Charlevoix is a short drive away where we enjoy shopping, ice cream, and strolling along the water. The downtown amphitheater is a great spot to take in a concert while enjoying an amazing view of the harbor. Area towns are readily accessible and offer a variety of activities.
Although our summer vacation is over, this special place continues to be a part of our seasons elsewhere. Until next time…
We vacationed in the cottage next door for nine years before purchasing our northern Michigan home. Every year, we also wistfully packed up and felt sad about leaving. Buying our cottage and sharing it with our wonderful guests has brought us great happiness! Upon each return, we appreciate the natural beauty of Nowland Lake and the easy access to the surrounding towns. Our returning guests have a special place in our heart.
Wonderful and Homey
We loved this sweet cottage. We had never been to Northern Michigan before and this was a perfect central location to take day trips to Macinac Island, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and some other places. And the cabin and lake was a peaceful place to relax. Beverly, our host was very accommodating with information ahead of the trip about place to go and things to do.
We enjoy sharing our love of northern Michigan with our wonderful guests! Our cottage is a great place for "home base" while exploring all the surrounding area has to offer.
You can find Petoskey stones right on the beach, and in downtown Charlevoix you can climb Mt. McSauba in the summer for magnificent views of the coast along Lake Michigan-a must see! The marina downtown is gorgeous at night, and the musical fountain is a delight for kids of all ages, just remember a bathing suit as you splash and play!
