About Nicholas Kynaston
Hello, my name's Nicholas, I love to travel (who doesn't?) and I am lucky enough to make my living out of it – by being a travel journalist and renting out two holiday apartments in the house I share with my Civil Partner Ben and our dog Barney. I love gardening too and if you stay you'll probably see me weeding or maybe tending the chickens who live in an 'eglu' at the bottom of the garden. I believe London is one of the world's greatest cities, so if you've got a question about the capital, don't hesitate to ask. Unusually for an Englishman I like foreign languages too, and can speak good Spanish, OK German and a bit of French.
Nicholas Kynaston purchased this Apartment in 2006
Why Nicholas Kynaston chose Larkhall
The moment we saw the house, we fell in love with it. It is one of the oldest in area , having been built in 1790 as the vicarage for the local church of Saint Andrews. Stockwell is central but not touristy - it takes just 8 minutes by tube to reach Victoria. It's a multicultural neighbourhood that we are proud to live in and is close to the vibrant districts of Vauxhall, Brixton and Clapham.
What makes this Apartment unique
Large windows flood it with light and the 30-metre (100 ft) back garden is unusual in London for being such a good size. When we moved in, the house was in a sorry state, dilapidated and having been used as a squat. We've now restored it to its former glory uncovering marble fireplaces that had been painted over with white paint and lovely wooden floor boards in the process. We love living here and we love having guests to stay.

Excellent london flat
If you are looking for an authentic London experience this place is for you. Nicholas and Ben were amazing hosts. You can see the hard work and love they have put into this apartment. It was a great place for our family of four. I highly recommend it
Perfect apartment, perfect hosts!
We were greeted warmly on arrival by Nic who was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The apartment was absolutely perfect for our (not so) little family of six. The beds were super comfortable and all rooms were spacious. There was a great little kitchen living area and a large bathroom. The apartment had everything you could want with every little convenience included right down to a hairdryer and straightener! To top this all off there is a stunning beautifully tended garden out the back. The place was lovely and quiet. Both the train station and supermarket are also close by. Nic and Ben (and the gorgeous Bruno) went out their way to make our stay perfect. We cannot recommend this place and it’s location enough.
We had a great experience. Our hosts were very helpful and kind. I would recommend this place to others.
Too many stairs and flies
The propert is in a great location but our unit was on the top floor 4 double flights of stairs. I would not recommend this property to anyone who is not really physically fit.
Also there were no screens on the windows and when we got there flies where all over the place as the windows were above the garbage cans. No air and no screens bad news.
Thanks for your review and that you awarded us 4 stars ("very good")... it´s our first 4 star review as so far all of the other reviews of the other guests have been 5 star ("excellent").
Sorry to read about your discomforts
Just to clarify the apartment is on the second floor (this is also clearly stated in the description of the apartment) with a total of 28 stairs. We agree if you are physically challenged than this might be not the right choice.
We never came across the "flies issues" ...
You arrived on an exceptional hot day so the cleaning lady left the windows open and there might have been a few flies in the living room... you would have found a spray in the cabinet to solve it.
...but are happy that you were pleased with the rest of the apartment.
Thanks again for your booking.
A great flat in southern London.
Nick and Ben were great hosts. They took time to check us in, show us around and acquaint us with the neighborhood. Loved the book you put together with suggeations for getting around the area, what to do and where to eat. So helpful.
The flat was great for our needs and we loved the ethnic mix, close proximity to the tube (7ish minutes) as well as feeling safe in the area. The mini mart across the street was a big help as well. They even had soy milk and a few fresh veggies.
Access to the flat was through the hallway of the main house and up two short flights of stairs but, was very private with a locking door.
The flat was super clean, had a well stocked kitchen, a beautiful bright bathroom and was quiet at night for sleeping. It was very homey and comfortable.
We would all love to stay there again and thank Nick and Ben for their help getting around and being so hospitable while still giving us all the privacy we wanted. Your back yard was amazing too! Thank you for sharing it.
Nick the host was awesome
Very close to the tube. Plenty of room for four. Clean and comfortable
We are located in Stockwell, an up-and-coming area of London and to reach the West End and City of London, takes just 5 minutes from our local tube (metro) station. We are opposite a small supermarket and have l great local pub as well as an organic bakery and sewing cafe in the area. The trendy 'hipster' area of Brixton is a five-minute walk away, as is bustling Clapham High Street, which is home to over 20 restaurants.
Five minutes walk from us is the district of Clapham with its high street containing over 20 restaurants and pubs.
Brixton, one of London's new trendy areas is 5-minutes walk the other way. Here you'll find Brixton Village, a Victorian former market hall that's' been turned into a must-visit destination with a couple of dozen restaurants, bars and vintage shops packed into its colonnades. And there's Pop Brixton, a fantastic new venture that showcases street food from around the world along with cute vintage shops in a complex made of sea containers with a central seating area where you can listen to live bands and some great djs.
