Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Swimmimg Pool, Quiet Rural Location

Nestled into the Andalusian countryside on the Costa de la Luz (Spain’s best kept secret) the house is surrounded by lush farmland and rolling hills. The first thing most people comment on when they arrive is how peaceful the place is. There is absolutely no background traffic noise and the closest road is too far away to hear. It really is bliss!

The house has been fully restored in its original style, and of course we have added all the usual mod-cons plus some extras to keep you all comfortable (underfloor heating, heat/cold isolated roof and windows, fully equipped kitchen, LED TV, etc.).

Long leisurely walks up the nature-protected hill behind our house give you a magnificent view over the farmland and down to the nearest village (Cantarranas 3km), and across the forest towards the Alcornocales National Park. On a clear day you can also see the coast of Africa and the Atlantic Ocean. The views from the roof terrace over the La Janda valley are incredible!

Whether you want to laze around the pool, take a long walk or bike ride, go surfing at one of Spain's most consistent spots, or play golf on nearby world class golf courses (Montenmedio is the nearest), we think you will find our house ideal.

It's a nature-lover's paradise, you’ll often see rabbits, partridges and pheasants in the garden, and sometimes deers come to visit.

The hill behind us - El Algar - is a protected site for the Imperial Eagle and we have plenty of buzzards, hawks, owls and an array of other species to spot.

The Situation

We are between two of Andalucia's most famous white villages, Vejer de la Frontera and Medina Sidonia, dating all the way back to the Phoenicians, both villages are steeped in history and boast great sightseeing, local bars and restaurants.

El Palmar, the Costa de la Luz’s most popular surf spot, is the nearest beach with a cool surfy vibe. You can’t help but love it! It has some great fish restaurants and lots of live music venues.

The neighbouring villages of Conil and Caños de Meca offer white endless sandy beaches and again provide some great fish and local style cuisine, with live entertainment, night clubs and general fun.

The situation is ideal for day trip and excursions, on one side to Cadiz, Europe's oldest city, Jerez with its famous sherry Bodegas and Royal Equestrian School, and in the other direction you can visit Tarifa, famous for its Kitesurfing and Windsurfing and probably one of the most picturesque and vibrant little towns along both coasts. Gibraltar is near enough for some Duty Free shopping and see the famous apes on top of the Rock.

All of the above are within a one hour drive from the house.

The house is located in the beautiful countryside between Vejer and Medina-Sidonia, and although it feels remote and secluded enough to make you feel like you’re away from the world, you are actually only 10mn away from these two famous white towns, and all the services they provide I terms of large supermarkets, farmacies, shopping, countless restaurants, etc.

The house sits among a very small community of rural properties, owned by a variety of British, Dutch and other expats, and also our lovely local farmer friends, who all keep an eye out for each other, without encroaching on each other’s privacy.

The Finca

Originally three individual farmhouses, our Finca has been lovingly restored and the three houses joined together to create one large property. The house consists of two barns connected by a rebuilt stone ruin which today forms the salon.

The upper area one has a very large fully equipped kitchen, dining room and lounge area with a large open fire place with safety heat proof glass doors which can be completely closed, one double bedroom with its own en-suite.

The large salon with its floor-to-ceiling glass doors gives you a fantastic view onto the pool and garden. The glass doors can be opened for a lovely indoor-outdoor feel.

The lower area has a very decadent 35 sq/m master bathroom with bath and shower. Next door is the second double bedroom, and then the master-bedroom with its own en-suite bathroom (bath and shower) and French doors opening up to the other side of the garden.

It has been a true labour of love to bring this “Grand Design” to life, we are completely “off-grid”, with our water coming from a choice of two wells, and the house is powered by our extensive solar system (backed up by a generator) all of which supplies a swimming pool, irrigation systems, under-floor heating, fast internet, all usual amenities, and accommodation for up to 8 people. Building our dream house virtually from the ground up, with all the luxury features and usability we wanted was certainly a massive challenge, but to do this while remaining completely self-sufficient has also brought us a huge sense of pride.

The house is designed to run as efficiently and automatically as possible, but it must be appreciated that our systems are not as straightforward as those in a conventional house, and although plentiful, our resources are not infinite, we therefore ask that our guests enjoy our house freely, but also treat it with the consideration and sympathy required to run such a house with sustainability. We are also in the middle of the countryside, and ultimately, we are in the south of Spain, so occasionally we have to be a little patient and adopt the local “mañana” attitude. We may have to wait that extra minute for the boilers to heat up the cold well water, and the generator is needed to power large appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines etc, (during which we make the most of the power by pumping water up, filtering the pool, recharging batteries etc.) but it’s all part of the experience and charm of being self-sufficient, and should be appreciated by like-minded guests who can balance the luxury of country living with the awareness of eco-friendly practicality.

Quiet location, spacious house - relaxing week!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this spacious home for a week at the end of May & very much enjoyed it. Pierre was very accommodating & left us a welcome pack which included delicious chocolate brownies (most appreciated) & Juan who pops by most days to check everything was charming (even if he doesn't speak English). The information folder was very helpful & we ate in a few of the recommended restaurants. The location is beautifully quiet & helped to provide a relaxing week. We enjoyed the space the house offered internally (2 separate lounge areas perfect for teenagers to have their own space & 3 bathrooms too). Our week flew by but the house had everything we needed & was in a good location to explore from. Would certainly recommend to others & we would consider returning.

Tranquil haven in a gorgeous part of Spain - perfect family house

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in Pierre’s house. From the moment we arrived it was everything we hoped for. My teenage daughter announced ‘ it is fantastic!’ I knew we were in for a good holiday!

On arrival Pierre was incredibly welcoming and answered all my inane questions! The directions were spot on.

We have 3 teenagers and it was the perfect house for us - a great pool, very comfy sofa for watching films and enough space to keep everyone happy! It is full of so much character and rustic charm.

Each morning Juan pops up to check on the pool. Attempting to chat to him in my basic Spanish was a highlight particularly as he is so friendly as is Pepi.

The location is just right. Set far back off the road with walks from house but then within easy driving to the gorgeous towns of Vejer, Tarifa or Cádiz and not forgetting the beautiful hip beaches.

My husband was in his element with all the bird-watching.

I can’t recommend the house highly enough - we were all VERY sad to leave but hopefully we will be back!!!

Lovely property in a great quiet location close to Vejer and the coast

  • 5 of 5

Casa Tranquila is exactly that - a lovely, peaceful property in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Spain. The house had everything we needed and more then lived up to expectations. Pierre was really helpful and relaxed. We had a wonderful time and would recommend wholeheartedly. Thanks Pierre!

Beautiful secluded Villa, totally off the beaten track

  • 5 of 5

If you wish to escape the 'rat race' and hanker after total peace and quiet then this is the Casa for you.

Five of us (adults) stayed in Pierre's tastefully decorated Casa. Pierre was

utterly charming and was easily contactable for any problems, along with Juan who visited early morning to check the pool etc ., and would always relay messages back to Pierre, if need be.

The Casa is in an ideal area for exploring Cadiz, Jerez, Medina Sidonia and the beautiful magical town of Vejer de la Fronterer, plus of course

the beaches fairly nearby.

We would barbecue at night and sit and play our raucous games of cards until late without disturbing anyone.

There was a friendly Spanish Bar not too far away, good for an early evening drink.

All in all a delightful laid back break which made it quite difficult to return to normality.

The only downside was locating the Villa, but we found it in the end after a phone call and driving along a field first!!!!

We would all love to return.

True Andalucia, gorgeous villa.

  • 5 of 5

Stayed last week of April and first two weeks of May. Fantastic experience in a beautiful villa in a top class location. I picked this property before so many others. The villa has a large living space and is secluded in a quiet location. My wife and I arrived at the start of wild flower season - an unexpected bonus. The villa is very spacious and easy to live in and adapt to. As a terrible sleeper I had the best sleep I have had in a long time.

The whole experience was excellent and Pierre proved to be an excellent communicator and was very helpful. The villa met/exceeded my expectations and turned out to be an excellent worthwhile holiday. I would recommend this villa for families/couples or those wishing to 'drop out' for a few weeks.

Although in a quiet location up a farm type track. The villa is brilliantly served by the local road networks (part of the reason we picked it). Within 15-30 mins (Medina-Sidonia, Vejer, Las Brenas Park, Los Canos De Meca, Conil, Barbate), within 40 mins to an hour (Cadiz, Jerez, Arcos, Via Verde, Gibraltar, Tarifa). Excellent area and too many places to list. Genuinely good experience and hope to repeat it some day. The only thing I didn't like was going home. Usually after an extended break - going home seems okay. I could have happily moved in and lived there - if only.....

Sehr behagliches großes altes Haus. Schön restauriert, sehr einsam gelegen.

  • 4 of 5
