Lamoine Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Two bedrooms, one sleeping alcove, one full bath, sleeps 5

SeaCat's Rest is a modern, kid friendly 1000 sf suite with full cook's kitchen. It looks toward the Maine shore through thirty feet of windows, and comprises the private ocean facing ground level of a large two family home. Step outside and you will be 100 feet from the great North Atlantic with views toward Cadillac Mountain and Acadia National Park. Dig clams on the shore or kayak in the pristine waters between short trips to Bar Harbor or the Park's many attractions. Walk up to our local pond for a refreshing swim or check out Lamoine State Park one mile away. Settle in for the night with all the comforts of home with our full modern granite kitchen and entertainment center. There are two bedrooms, each with queen size beds, plus a new sleeping alcove with a full size bed.

Please don't believe the "response rate" figure on the right: we respond quickly to your email address, not through homeaway, for maximum privacy. We have started responding initially through homeaway to improve our score.

September-The Other August!: Here on the Downeast coast of Maine, September is slow to yield to the cooling Canadian winds and we often have a full month of sun and warmth after most tourists have gone. This is the season of ripening apples, cranberries waiting to be gathered and the first hints of fall color. Prices are marked down--including ours, but few seasonal restaurants or shops are ready to close for the year. The Acadia Night Sky Festival is a celebration of the unique darkness of our night sky and runs in early September. Bucksport's Annual Medieval Tournament is scheduled for the second Saturday in September at Fort Knox. The quirky MDI Garlic Festival happens in mid September at the Smuggler's Den campground in Southwest Harbor. Though it's a bit of a drive, the Common Ground Country Fair in Unity, Maine is an organic mega-event at the end of September. My favorite fall event is Southwest Harbor's Oktoberfest where all of Maine's craft brewers offer their brews.

Our apartment is under our unit. We are an older couple with a few cats and we try to be as cat-like as they are when it comes to noise. We rarely intrude on "your" side (the ocean side) of the yard; only when Bruce needs to row out to his boat every 2 days to check his lobster traps. We typically communicate with our guests by text or email, so privacy is a big priority!

About Bruce Gillett

The hosts, Bruce Gillett and Dr. Kathleen Rybarz came from Michigan in 1988 and raised our daughter here in Maine. We love the water, mountains and scenery and take an active interest in gardening, boating, mushrooming and foraging wild foods.

Bruce Gillett purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Bruce Gillett chose Acadia

We didn't buy this house, we built it! After decades in the building business we designed it just how we wanted it and we feel it is the perfect spot for sharing with small groups who appreciate the water views and access, cleanliness and attention to details.

What makes this apartment unique

Maine is the place where busy people come to rejuvenate. The quiet, the sea air and harmony with nature restore the spirit. Seacat's Rest was designed to enhance these effects; to present the Maine coast in all its glory and give comfort and ease in accommodations. Our goal is to make this the place where happy memories are made.

Wonderful, well -appointed property!

  • 5 of 5

This property over-delivered! It was a great place to recharge during a 9 day road trip through New England. The unit was clean, quiet, and well-supplied. We took day trips into Bar Harbor and Acadia Nat'l Park then came back each evening to relax and regroup. Bruce was quite accommodating and was available to answer questions, provide insights, and help us when we locked ourselves out! I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a place to relax and reflect!

Still purring after all these years.

  • 5 of 5

We've been coming to Maine to recharge our batteries for years and have stayed in lots of rentals, looking for the one to return to again and again. We found that place at Seacat's Rest and this was our third stay. We are never disappointed here. The place is perfect for our needs, has a great location and view, and Bruce is a world-class host, even gifting us with lobsters when he has them! Seacat's Rest has become our home away from home in Maine. We look forward to our next visit this year!

Owner's Response: Thanks F. and G., You are always welcome! We can't offer lobsters to many, and we don't want guests to expect them, but when the stars are aligned and the 5 traps are full, we are happy to share. Being a host in paradise is the best job I've ever had! Bruce

Wonderful Accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

We had a delightful stay at Sea Cat's rest! Not only are the accommodations private, quiet and comfortable, but the view across the water to Mt. Desert Island is extraordinary. We enjoyed sitting on the bluff and watching the lobster boats and the changing tide.

Our hosts, Bruce and Kathy, were very helpful and offered many suggestions for activities in this beautiful area.

During our week's stay we enjoyed several excursions: a ferry ride to lovely Isle Au Haut, digging clams and mussels on the shore in front of Sea Cat's Rest (free food!), a wild mushroom hike suggested by Bruce, a trip to Campobello Island, (FDR's summer retreat), and cranberry picking on Mt. Desert Island. We also had plenty of time to relax in front of a warm fire in our cozy apartment. We certainly plan to be return guests, and would recommend Sea Cat's Rest to our friends without hesitation.

Would stay again without hesitation

  • 5 of 5

This property is in a picturesque and quiet spot. You can see Mt. Desert Island across the bay (and the drive to the park is easy). We spotted a number of bald eagles as well, who fly very close! The inside was clean, roomy, and inviting, and we found everything we needed. Everything was functional. The hosts were friendly, accommodating, and available (though we didn't have any issues where we needed to find them)...and while the hosts do live on site, we felt like we had total privacy. They were very respectful of that. They provided a short but comprehensive manual for the property which answered any questions we could think of. Easy access to the water (rocky waterfront). Their friendly outdoor cats (who are not allowed inside) provided extra entertainment for our 9-year old. There's a fire pit right outside the door too, and we had local friends over for s'mores one night.

5 Star All the Way !!

Wonderful, clean, like new ground floor apartment with a gorgeous view. Our host was friendly and very helpful while my wife loved the kitchen and the cozy wood burning stove. We plan on returning for an extended trip next year.

An unforgettable stay.. very nice:)

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the stay and we can confidently say that you have taken every measure to keep the guests happy. Hats off to your thought process.

The house was very clean and all the required things were in place [with instructions to use]. Kids enjoyed reading the books and playing the games.

We look forward to visiting again, and would highly recommend 'Seacat Rest' to anyone planning a visit to Bar Harbor or Acadia, and is also in search of the true beauty and quietness of New England. The location, the cleanliness, and the gracious hosts makes this destination a 5 star rating for anyone lucky enough to book this rental.

Car: necessary

By making a half hour hop to Lamoine from Acadia National Park many advantages can be found. Prices are lower, beaches and trails are less crowded and you will not need to sacrifice any bit of the Downeast experience. You could even kayak one mile to the island or drive 8 miles and hop onto the free 'Island Explorer' bus to avoid crowded island driving altogether. Our breezy location just about guarantees pleasant and bug free picnics or clambakes. Our 1/4 mile gravel driveway removes us from summer traffic noises. Come and see what SeaCat's Rest has to offer!

Other Activities: kayaking, birding, clam digging, island exploring, cranberry picking

Additional information about rental rates

Tax Rate 9.0%

Please note: We will try to get 7 day minimum reservations for summer until Feb 1, 2017 at which time we will again accept shorter stays.
If the total stay (< 1 week) adds up to more than the weekly rate, the weekly rate applies. Charges for fractions of a second week are figured as fractions of the weekly rate. Example: a 10 day stay would be 10/7 times the weekly rate, not the weekly rate plus 3x the daily rate.

We ask for an immediate $100 deposit to hold your reservation and the remainder of the first half to be sent six weeks before arrival, with the second half due upon arrival. We accept checks, cash and now Paypal too. With Paypal, it's possible to pay electronically within the US without fees. Ask us for details.
