Why The owner chose Costa Brava

We chose this property for its unique location which affords the property privacy and seclusion whilst having the best views in the area. From all the windows and terraces facing the sea, the vista is completely uninterrupted and you can see right along the coast of the Costa Brava from France to Aiguafreda with the Medes islands right in front. In addition it is ideally situated for all the local beaches, the town of Begur and for exploring further afield to Barcelona to the south and Figueres and Cadaques in the North. We discovered this area and this house over 10 years ago and realised it would be the perfect place for a holiday home for our family for many years as the villa and the area have so much to offer.

What makes this villa unique

Apart from the unrivalled sea views, the villa is large, accommodating and very comfortable whatever your holiday needs. Whether you are a couple, a family or a group of friends this villa always feels like the right size for your party, as there is space for coming together and space for solitude. For us, one of the unique benefits was its very large kitchen and terrace with built in BBQ, making it ideal for entertaining or just for enjoying the peace and tranquility whilst having a drink and enjoying the scenery. The renovations we have done since purchasing the property have added to the comfort of the villa including new kitchen and bathrooms, and nearly everyone who stays says Its just the perfect holiday home.

A holiday to remember

  • 3 of 5

Myself and my family have just spent a wonderful week at this villa.

There was plenty of room for four kids and three adults. The villa was clean, well kept and well supplied with all the essentials.

We enjoyed some great weather during our stay, dry and warm but with a lovely sea breeze so it never got too hot.

The highlight of the villa is the view which is nothing short of spectacular. Breakfast or an evening bbq on the terrace, whilst enjoying the view will remain long in our memories.

The area also has much to offer. We enjoyed snorkelling in the little bay down the hill which is only 10 mins walk from the villa. This area of coast is a nature reserve and as such the sea was full of fish.

We hired a boat from Begur boats just down the coast and spent the day exploring the coast and diving off the boat.

There are some really lovely restaurants in the area but most days we made good use of the bbq on the terrace. There is a spa with most of the essentials ten mins drive into Begur, a large hypermarket on the way to Pallafrugel or for something really fresh the veg/meat and fish market in Pallafrugel centre is well worth a trip.

Would we come back?.... absolutely!

Beautiful Views, Deferred Maintenance

  • 3 of 5

Our family of four stayed in this villa for a week at the end of June in 2015.

The Pros: The view is exceptional, and the house is quiet and well located between two lovely beaches. The master bedroom and bathroom are beautiful and comfortable, and the kitchen is well supplied with all the essentials. There is a fantastic set of restaurants about 10 minutes walk from the hotel on a gorgeous inlet (though up and down many stairs). Air conditioners in the bedrooms work very well. No significant issues with mosquitos on the terrace. The owners responded promptly and returned our deposit after rental promptly.

The Cons: The outdoor furniture was dirty and/or broken and in need of replacement. No beach towels were provided. The layout of the home can be challenging for the mobility impaired (one bedroom up, two bedrooms down--third "bedroom" down is really a storage room with no windows), and many steps to parking and the pool. Bedrooms downstairs were very basic--and if you need to be near your little ones, they will be far from the master bedroom. There were abundant ants in the extra upstairs guest bedroom where my daughter slept (we brought no food upstairs--they were attracted by her clothes), so we had to abandon it. The closest accessible beach is really a boat launch and is 10 minutes walk away--the closest sandy beach requires a drive.

We had a nice time at this home and with some attention to the details above, given the gorgeous view and quiet location, this house would be a good value.

Owner's Response: Hi Larry Thank you very much for your review - we always appreciate feedback and the chance to respond. I am glad that you enjoyed your stay in the villa, as you say we are very lucky with the location and situation that we have. We are ideally situated between a number of beaches, and I would say that it is an easy and picturesque walk to at least 3 of them. Indeed our children have been walking to them since they were tiny. The villa is set into woodland on the side of the cliff which makes it so peaceful and the views so spectacular, however as a result of this there are steps up from the garage to the pool area and then again another flight up to the main house. We do make this clear on the website and always say to anyone who asks that it is not a house that is suitable for those who are less mobile. We try our best to make the villa as comfortable as possible and provide all the home comforts that tenants generally require. The layout of the villa is ideal for 2 families or extended families, with 3 bedrooms on the ground floor and 2/3 bedrooms on the first floor, allowing people to holiday together comfortably whilst still affording everyone their own space. It is unfortunate that some ants appeared in one of the bedrooms - the area is well known to have an abundance of ants, but we treat the whole house every year to keep the ants out and as a result guests can cook, entertain and relax without being bothered by them in the kitchen and dining areas, which is very rare. So I am sorry that some came into the top bedroom, but I know that our villa manager dealt with the situation straightaway once you made her aware of the problem so hope it didn't affect your holiday too much. I am sorry too if you felt that some items of furniture outside were dirty - we are quite particular about the standard of cleanliness and generally the feedback we get is that the villa is very clean, comfortable and well-equipped. I am glad though that despite these few points you raise that you did have a good holiday and enjoyed the area - and hope that you get the chance to visit again. Kind regards Caroline

Fantastic Location - comfortable villa

  • 5 of 5

The villa is great, as described it comfortably fitted our two families of four. The highlight was the time spent on the deck after the day's adventures relaxing and looking out to sea. Beatiful views and a functional layout left plenty of room for everyone.

The location is fantastic with much to see and do, great beaches to visit along with some amazing medieval villages in close proximity. It was surprising how quite it was midweek just a few weeks out of high season.

Gundi was lovely and provided some very helpful information on the area. She was very welcoming. Booking with Caroline was no problem other than a small confusion with dates that was all sorted and she was flexible with in/out days. There were some delays in communication and it would have been reassuring if we had been provided a contact number as the site suggests.

Overall a great villa in a great location, would happily stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your comments, we always appreciate hearing from our guests and how they enjoyed their time at the villa. I am so glad you had a great holiday and that the villa suited you all so well. Regarding contact numbers - we do choose not to publish our telephone number on the website as there has been so much fraud associated with this site, but we are always happy to provide one once the initial contact has been made and the integrity of the request has been established. Indeed we often respond to questions and confirm bookings by phone if that is what the guests prefer. I apologise if this in any way lead to concern and if you ever decided to book again, I would be happy to furnish you with our number! I do hope you do decide to come again, you would be very welcome! Thanks again - Caroline.

Stunning views, beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulously relaxing holiday at Villa Bellamar. We stayed with another family and there was plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 teenagers. The kids enjoyed the pool and the many local coves and beaches, while the adults lazed on one of the many terraces, taking in the spectacular views of the sea and local islands.

The coastline is lovely and there are costal paths nearby which we used frequently to avoid getting in the car. We found local restaurants to be good and reasonable and food and drink in the local supermarkets was good quality and good value. We had several bbqs but tended to head in at dusk to avoid the Mosquitos.

2 of the main bedrooms had aircon and the master suite is amazing (we got to enjoy it the second week). It would have been even better for everyone to have aircon in their bedroom as it got hot some nights. Having been before I seem to remember a better night breeze on our previous trip - perhaps this summer was unusually hot. Generally though we had a really relaxing time in one of Europe's hidden gems. We hope to return soon!

The perfect place to stay with Family and friends

  • 5 of 5

The villa is a great place to stay with friends and family due to the size. I stayed there for my 40th birthday and had an amazing time. There is so much space around the villa with amazing outdoor facilities such as the large patio terrace and pool area. We had a fantastic time as the villa had everything we could want and it felt like a home from home. Stunning views from the villa and the surrounding area. The variety of local beaches catered for everyones tastes and are set in some stunning locations. The food in local restaurants was also fantastic and offer a variety of dishes that are both local and traditional. The location of the villa is very easy to find and the drive from either Girona or Barcelona airports is very straight forward. There is plenty to see and do around the area but we spent a lot of time relaxing at the villa and enjoying the weather. I would highly recommend staying there and I am looking forward to my next stay as I have booked again for 2016!

Stunning house with incredible views

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful views from the balcony, one fantastic bedroom and en suite, again with incredible views, 4 other beds and 2 bathrooms, excellent kitchen well equipped. Nice pool and decking with 5 v comfy loungers, 3 others available. Couldn't really walk to beaches but there was parking at all local beaches, our favourite was Sa Riera. Begur is a divine hilltop town with excellent restaurants, and we were there during the cuban festival which was great fun (if you are there make sure you wear white otherwise you stand out like a sore thumb). Gunde was an excellent manager and Caroline very easy to deal with! We would all highly recommend, only sadness was the amount of midges/mosquitos, v difficult to sit out at dusk as we got bitten alive, but we had been warned! Take lots of mozzie repellent and long sleeves/trousers for the evening. Would recommend!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your great feedback, glad you had such a nice holiday and yes we are extremely lucky with our position offering such spectacular views of the sea and the Medes islands. Sorry you didn't feel up to walking to the beaches, the cliff walks from the villa to both Sa Riera and Sa Tuna via Aiguafreda are some of the most spectacular walks in the area, and even our children have enjoyed it since they were small, so would definitely recommend trying it next time you come! And of course we do hope you get the chance to come again, we would love to welcome you back. Caroline & Guy
