Port Clyde Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We rented this for two families of 5 and found it to have plenty of space and then some. The cottage was well maintained/very clean. The ever changing view at low tide/high tide and dusk to dawn was spectacular. The expansive lawn provided hours of play from hide and seek to soccer to whiffle ball. Kayaking was convenient right from the yard, but don't go as low tide approaches. The cottage had all the linens and towels we needed and had an awesome screened porch where we ate many lobster and steamer dinners, did puzzles, played games and just relaxed. Waking up in the upstairs master bedroom was heavenly with the view. Drift in beach and Port Clyde General Store and ice cream were a quick bike ride away or take a 35 minute drive and hike Mount Battie in Camden and then shop. Don't forget to try the outdoor shower! The owners are great people too and very attentive to your questions and needs. Can't wait to go back next year!

Great for big group. Beautiful views. The only improvement would be a larger kitchen.

Stunning views. Clean. Welcoming. Spacious.

  • 5 of 5

My family loved this home and charm of the St George peninsula. The water views from all rooms and kayak access were great. House is big with lots of privacy. We had 8 adults plus a baby and everyone enjoyed the accommodations. Walk to beach and town. Local artisans and veggies. Quick drive to Rockland and Camden. We would definitely stay here again when we return to mid coast Maine.

Cousins at Cousin's Cove

  • 5 of 5

Cousins at Cousin’s Cove

We had a party of 14 cousins stay at Cousin’s Cove (appropriately named for our family reunion) in July 2016. The house was perfect for our reunion. The house was well - equipped for cooking and relaxing. The bedrooms were ample in size and met all of our needs. One bedroom in particular- the Greenhouse room - was a bit hot. I suggest bringing an extra fan if you are hot natured and stay in this room during the summer. The rest of the rooms had adequate ventilation with the windows open. Being from Texas, I was a bit leery about the house not having AC, but I found out that I needed blankets during the night. One thing we missed when reviewing the house description was that there was not a washer or dryer. Be sure to pack enough clothes or be prepared to go to a laundry mat. (We found it.)

Our family took advantage of the wonderful screened - in porch, grill, and back yard. The view from the porch and the house are spectacular. Our family loved to watch the tidal change and the moon rise on the horizon over the water.

A few of the cousins went out on the two house kayaks. Be sure to watch the tides and not go out when the tide is low, for you could get caught and have to wait for high tide to return. There were life jackets to fit all sizes.

Mark and Alice, the owners, graciously offered to take us on a boat ride as part of our stay. We had a fantastic time and the ride was one of the highlights of our vacation. They gave us a wonderful tour of the area, took us to the puffin colony and gave us insights that only a true native of the area could. We had an avid fisherman in our group who was not catching any fish near the house. Mark, suggested where to fish and then he had success.

The cousins had a great time at Cousin’s Cove, Overall, this is a wonderful home for our group of 14. If our family returns to Maine, we would definitely stay at Cousin’s Cove.

Vacation of a Lifetime

  • 5 of 5

My Sisters and I picked Maine this year for our annual family get together.I happened upon this house on VRBO and loved it immediately. There are essentially three wings to the house which made it easy for our families to get together but also to spend time separate if needed. There were fresh linens including towels when we arrived. The view from all the windows overlooking the Cove was amazing every day. Our favorite part of the day was watching the tide roll in and out. The house was completely outfitted with dishes, pots and pans, and a grill to give us all the comforts of home. We were conveniently located to everything including sailing, deep sea fishing, wandering art exhibits and state parks. The owners had two Kayaks there which the kids loved using. They even made sure there were life jackets randomly sized for everyone. Mark and Alice took some of us our on their boat for a joyful couple hours. There are several fresh fish/lobster options right down the road. You can stop by the Co-op and purchase fresh lobster from the fisherman or visit the fishing Co-op right outside of town where the local fishermen bring their fish to sell. The owners not only invested to make sure we had a comfortable place to stay, they went out of their way to share the reasons they love the area. Those little known facts about a place you just can't Google such as locations famous for paintings like N.C. Wyeth. My only regret is we had to leave this little bit of paradise to come back home. Great Memories made in the rental and Port Clyde. We will be visiting again soon!
