Relaxing in every way

  • 5 of 5

The cottage and surroundings are so well done and comfortable. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed a lot of time on the dock - fishing, eating meals, and laying in the hammock. Also a great location to walk or bike on the eastern shore trail into Fairhope or to the Grand Hotel.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We thoroughly enjoyed having you and your family here. We especially appreciated that you used the wharf for fishing, eating out every meal, and pulling up that rather interesting kayak. I hope you can come again, and, with all due respect, maybe I can possibly impart a bit of local knowledge to help you better get after the specs and Redfish a bit more. Best regards. Ole Frank

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This...

  • 5 of 5

I had done a bit of reading about Fairhope and thought it would be a great getaway for my wife and I to celebrate our 35th anniversary. Once I selected Fairhope as the destination, I wanted to choose the perfect place to say and Surprise Landing was just that. Our hosts Deborah and Frank were warm and gracious and the cottage was ideal. Cozy and inviting, it was a great place to return to after a day of sightseeing and touring the area. The porch area was delightful, and the access to the dock and pier was wonderful as well. Thanks Frank and Deborah for helping us to create such a wonderful memory!

A Most Enjoyable Stay

  • 5 of 5

This was my second visit to the Fairhope area but my first stay at Surprise Landing and it made my stay so much more enjoyable. Deborah and Frank, the hosts, were both very pleasant, accommodating and very prompt in communicating. The wine and cheese sticks were a welcoming surprise upon arrival and much appreciated. Surprise Landing cottage was a very cozy, comfortable home away with everything I needed during my stay. The bed was very comfortable and I slept better than I do at home, perhaps it was the tranquil surroundings. I enjoyed being able to walk out the door to the walking trail each morning for a bit of exercise and to explore the local environment and stopping by Sister's Deli for breakfast was a delight I enjoyed a time or two. Also access to the host's private pier on the bay and it's accommodations was definitely a plus. Last but not least the wonderful veranda styled enclosed porch was a delight that I particularly enjoyed. A special thanks to Deborah and Frank for a most enjoyable stay. I look forward to my next stay at Surprise Landing.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your great review. We have noted, and your review confirms our observation, that our area is increasingly blessed with good places to go for meals from very informal sandwich shops to haute cuisine at the multi-star level. Thank you for mentioning the enclosed porch. This is a fairly recent modification, which has seemed to be a nice enhancement. It is particularly nice for a quiet time morning or evening, and can be opened to provide an airy way to enjoy the solitude or pleasant weather.

Sweetest Little Cottage EVER and the Hosts were out of this world

  • 5 of 5

Such a peaceful little get a way! We stayed in this charming cottage for 3 nights and loved our time. The hosts/owners we just so gracious and allowed us access to the entire property..beautiful long pier out to the bay with rocking chairs and a hammock. The property itself was just magnificient with lush landscaping, far enough off the highway for a peaceful night's sleep. We left feeling like we had met some wonderful new friends and plan to return in the very near future. I almost hesitate to write a great review for fear the place will book solid and we won't be able to find a date to return! This cottage was perfect in every way! Thank you Frank and Deborah!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. We enjoyed your visit, and had a good time reminiscing about the good old days at Point Clear, in Fairhope and at Battles. The days of only getting here from Mobile on the side-wheeler Bay Boats are long gone, but it is a comfort to think that much of the charm of those yesteryears is still in the DNA of the area.

Exceptionally Wonderful Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second visit to a VRBO and it has always been SURPRISE LANDING! We stayed a week this time and enjoyed everyday! I really loved loved loved the wharf and just looking out at water!! I love that area!!

Deborah and Frank are outstanding hosts! We enjoyed the Satsuma Mandarin fruit from trees in the yard, and of course wine and Deborah's homemade cheesesticks left out for us!

I would highly recommend SURPRISE LANDING to you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the generous review. It was great to have you back and catch up. We especially enjoy visitors who appreciate and use our waterfront opportunities. This is particularly true for folks who have had some recent rough patches lately and can enjoy the quiet and solitude of our wharf while experiencing the magical restorative powers of Mobile Bay.

The best kind of surprise

  • 5 of 5

I found Surprise Landing on vrbo for a getaway for my husband and myself. We are in our sixties and had never been to Fairhope, Alabama. The town itself was wonderful, but our greatest pleasure was staying at Surprise Landing. Deborah was away, but Frank was a charming and helpful host, the kind of fella you want for your next door neighbor.

The cottage was immaculate and cleverly laid out; the surroundings were gorgeous (thanks, Frank, for ordering up that weather). A bottle of wine and Deborah's great cheese straws will greet you, and you get to sit out on the Moore's wonderful pier.

We couldn't have designed a better experience, and we look forward to visiting again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your generous review. You seemed to get the most out of your much too short visit. There is so much to see and do in our beautiful area, that we hope you can return soon and, perhaps, stay a little longer. And, yes, I was glad to schedule that great weather, particularly, those beautiful sunsets, just for you.
