A true relaxing vacation!
Imagine waking up to the sound of parrots and toucans. Enjoy a hot breakfast prepared for you by Beto, our chef and housekeeper, on the patio with the rainforest all around you. Spend your day hiking or mountain biking through the trails, and exploring the streams on this 7 acre mountainside retreat either by yourself or with a local bilingual guide. Swim in the private pool. Watch for tropical birds, butterflies and other wildlife from the balcony, decks or large windows. There are also spectacular views of a lake in the valley below.
White Water Rafting Special:
If you stay at our home for at least two nights you can have a trip on the beautiful Pacuare river (class 2,3,4 rapids) with an experienced English speaking guide. You will be picked up and dropped off at our home. The tour includes lunch and a hike to a waterfall for just $80 a person. Usually the trip costs $100 - $115 The river is rated as one of the top 10 most beautiful rivers in the world by National Geographic.
Be with nature! This beautiful home is located in a remote corner of a small farming town in the lush green Turrialba mountains. It is a gorgeous location that is both safe and private. The rainforest surrounds this mountaintop house on three sides. The climate here is perfect, 72-78 degrees year round.
This large, modern, three story home is clean and nicely furnished. It has an open floor plan with a kitchen, family room, sun room, and game room on the main floor. There is a balcony that wraps around 3 sides of the upstairs bedroom to enjoy the spectacular views. The game room has a pool table, a ping pong table, and a foozball table. Breakfast is included included in the rate, and Beto will cook any other meals for you for an additional fee.
The owners are a former Peace Corps volunteer who fell in love with this beautiful friendly town when she lived there 19 years ago and her native Costa Rican husband. They are familiar with the area and can help you plan your stay. We can help arrange a ride from the airport in a comfortable SUV for $80.
If you are looking for adventure, the city of Turrialba, famous for excellent white water rafting on the Reventazon and Pacuare rivers, is just 15 minutes away. There are many shops and restaurants in Turrialba. There is also a farmer's market every Friday and Saturday where a wide variety of fruits and vegetables are sold. Guyabo National Park, an archaeological site is about 30 minutes away and the Turrialba Volcano National Park is about 45 minutes away. CATIE (A University that attracts students from around the world) is 15 minutes away.
If you would like to experience true Costa Rican life, this is the perfect place. The town has one main road, a church, soccer field, and a school. The townspeople are very friendly and helpful. All around the town are family farms of coffee, sugar cane, and macadamia nuts. If you want to see where your coffee or sugar really comes from, you can pick your own coffee beans or try a piece of fresh cut sugar cane. You can also see farm animals. If you would like to try some delicious fresh tropical fruits, they are growing just down the hill.
If you have children, there is plenty for them to do in this town, and plenty of Spanish speaking friends for them to meet. They will enjoy feeding the ducks, geese, and chickens, and maybe see chicks hatching. Swimming in the pool is safe and fun for all ages, with a big shallow section as well as a deep end. They can join in a pick up soccer game at the town field, or walk to the neighborhood pulperia to buy snacks or candy, like the local children do. They can even visit the small neighborhood school and possibly leave there with a greater appreciation for their own school back home.
You will fall in love with this amazing rainforest getaway in this small friendly Costa Rican town just like we did.

About the owner: Adrian is a native Costa Rican who grew up in Turrialba. He met Libby when she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica. They have been married for 18 years and have 3 children.
Why the Owner Chose Cartago, Costa Rica:
Libby was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the small town where the home is located. It is a safe, friendly, and peaceful town. The climate is perfect, not too hot and humid, and there are very few mosquitos.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love sitting on the deck enjoying the spectacular views. We love watching all the hummingbirds birds and butterflies. We also listen to hear the toucan's calling and run outside to see them perched in the trees and then soaring down into the valley.
