About Rick and Teresa Maurmann

We have been married since 2005. We have three kids and 2 Huskies. We love them all very much! My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. We decided that life is too short to work so much and rarely spend family time together. We found our cabin in October 2007.

Rick and Teresa Maurmann purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Rick and Teresa Maurmann chose Detroit

Mostly for the Lake. But it now goes deeper than that. It is an oasis of calm, grounding and recharging for everyone in the family including the dogs.

What makes this cabin unique

It's endless. The best times for my wife and I is in the snow. Turn on the gas fireplace. Grab a book and snuggle up. Napping and reading all day with snacks and good conversation. The kids love any adventure outside. Walking around town, going to the lake or exploring the woods. We are just a few minutes to swimming, snow skiing, hiking and the hot springs or hanging out in the hot tub placed in the middle of our private forest.

Relaxing, Cozy, Beautiful, Perfect

  • 5 of 5

Great location, the cabin is super comfortable and cozy; it basically forces you into relaxation. The hot tub is a dream, the owners really did a fantastic job creating an atmosphere within the cabin and around the yard. Beautiful during the winter and I'm sure even better during the summer. Not too far from sisters/bend area. Nice and peaceful, already have friends asking how they too can rent/stay at this cabin! Wish we could stay a few more days but we will definitely be back!

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This photogenic A Frame cabin was the perfect spot to spend our weekend! If you're looking to stay in the Detroit Lake area, this is the spot. Private outdoor hot tub, back deck over looking the little town of Detroit, movies, board games, and even a cozy fire pit. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and all the necessities you'll need. Thank you, Rick and Teresa, it was very enjoyable and we can't wait to come back!

Cozy, well-appointed, loved the hot tub!

  • 5 of 5

The property is wonderful, and we loved the terraced design of the hot tub, sitting areas and fire pit. The whole place has a "woodsy hideaway" style, but not over-done. They do expect a lot of cleanup, which was a bit of a drag. We'd happily return if they charged an up-front cleaning fee (laundry and vacuuming kind of takes away from the "vacation" vibe)

Owner's Response: Hi, Thanks for your review. If we can find a way to charge the cleaning fee up front we would seriously consider. But we also feel that not having a cleaning fee keeps costs down. Keep checking on us to see how we move forward on this. Thanks.

The spot is beautiful, surrounded by a thick canopy of conifers. An easy walk to Detroit shops.

The interior was lovely and comfy. The kitchen was well appointed. The deck was so relaxing with a fairly private view. And the hot tub was excellent! It was a wonderful place to de-stress. I'm sure it would have been a great base for nearby activities, but we never really left the place. I'm sure we'll try staying there again !
