About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

'Lofty' is a two+ bedroom waterfront Maine cottage with second floor loft (hence the name). Don't stay in an old musty cottage! Treat yourself to a newly and fully renovated camp that is ready for your next Maine vacation. 'Lofty' is located on a private, quiet,dead-end gravel road that lends itself to peaceful respites.

'Lofty' is the larger of a pair of cute cottages, the smaller of which was renovated in 2007 and is listed as VRBO #138154 or 'Cozy Oceanfront Cottage'. The twin cottage setup is ideal for larger family gatherings or groups who may wish to rent both for ultimate comfort and privacy. Perfect for occasions where one may prefer to have separate sleeping arrangements. Guests who rent both cottages will receive a substantial savings on the rental rates. Alternatively, they may be rented individually and still have lots of privacy as the lot size is large. Use of two sea kayaks is included with Lofty (exclusively)

'Lofty' is comfortable and easily accessible from Brunswick and Portland and features two private bedrooms with queen size beds as well as a loft space that will has two twin beds. One bedroom will have wide views of Quahog Bay. Kids will love sleeping in the loft, playing games and watching the boats and birds from the large windows. Full kitchen and open living design are the hallmarks of this cottage. Knotty pine interior and cathedral ceilings in the family/living room space make for a light open feeling. The floor plan is open with a kitchen living room space that flows onto a full size deck just feet from the waters edge. Large panoramic windows lend to an open feeling that extends the indoors out. Beautiful views from the kitchen and living area. Watch the ocean and sailboats from the deck or the warmth of the living room as you sit by the glow of the gas woodstove.

The huge over-sized dock and float with outdoor deck on the water's edge is a big attraction. The pier is probably one of the largest non-commercial structures on Quahog Bay. The rental of the home includes use of two kayaks during your stay. Boaters may be interested in renting the mooring for the week and arriving by boat.

Updated fotos of the interior and grounds are available in the links below.

Oh, by the way, 'Lofty' will be handicap accessible. A gentle ramp leads to a wide 36 inch door and open hallway and floor plan. The camp will be suitable for wheelchair bound or gait impaired guests. Please e-m ail with any specific questions.

We do rent into November so reserve your Fall Maine vacation soon! Can't afford a real relaxing vacation? I don't think so....e mail us now for more information on our Fall specials!

Renting a private home is different than staying at a hotel. It is important to ask questions before you reserve and to have realistic expectations. We have done our best to describe our properties, however, guest expectations vary. If you have special requests or needs please ask before you reserve. We want to avoid renter's remorse or the old "this was not what I thought it was going to be like". In most cases guests never asked any questions!!!! Refunds at the time of check in are not permitted.

Why John and Karen chose Portland & Casco Bay

What makes this cottage unique

Perfect restful Maine cottage. Comfy sleeping, quiet peaceful mornings and relaxing days.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks guys! We really enjoyed our stay! Everything was great with the cottage. We picked up boiled lobsters from Erica's two nights and had dinner in the cottage then. We were basically out and exploring the rest of the time.

I think we enjoyed all the seafood we ate the best, but I think I'm lobstered out for a while!

Yes, pls send me a VRBO link and I'll try to write a review...it will be positive!

Thanks for everything!

Spectacular Views

Lofty was the perfect place for our family to gather for Thanksgiving; the interior space provide a picturesque backdrop for our dinner. Upon entering Lofty we were welcomed by the sweet smell of pine. In the main living area light poured from a wall of windows framed spectacular views of the water and shoreline. The entire home is well- thought- out and comfortable. Guests need only to relax and enjoy this special place.

Lovely spot.

The house is well equipped. The owners are very responsible in their communications. The location is really pretty. We woke every morning to watch the sunrise over the water.

Exceeded Expectations

  • 5 of 5

Like so many others, I arrived at Lofty stressed and wrung out. What a perfect antidote! From the ease of communicating with John and Karen prior to my arrival to waking up my first morning with coffee on the deck watching an eagle survey the water below, my stay couldn't have been more peaceful and rejuvenating. Loved visiting Bath for Bath Heritage Days, Bowdoin College and the Peary-MacMillian Arctic Museum, quaint breakfast and lunch spots, hiking trails with great photography opportunities.

Lofty itself was very clean and a beautiful location. The description and reviews are spot on. The kayaks were perfect for adventuring out thru islands and traps. Felt like a local as the neighbors waved to me from their docks as I paddled past. Whether I wanted to have a day of adventure or a peaceful day on the dock or combination of, Lofty delivered. Thank you John and Karen!

Prime location for exploring this part of the Maine coast.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the recently constructed property. Clean, spacious, well-stocked kitchen, comfortable furniture; just a great property. The location is midway down the peninsula so it's easy to go shopping at Shaws, close to the lower islands, and local seafood is very close. Kayaks were easy to launch and retrieve. The outdoor shower is nice after a dive off the float. I could go on and on but you get the idea. If this part of Maine is where you want to be I doubt you'll find a better spot for the money.

So relaxing!!

  • 5 of 5

We have had a wonderful week here at the Lofty Cottage. The house has everything we needed for our home away from home. The views off the deck are spectacular, especially in the morning as the sun rises. My 3 kids have enjoyed playing and jumping off the dock. They have explored the rocky coastline during low tide and have especially enjoyed their own "fort" up in the loft of the home. We have watched daily the lobster boats haul their traps right infront of the house, saw a harbor seal off the dock and enjoyed the beautiful sailboats coming and going. The 2 kayaks were a huge bonus for our group. We kayaked the shoreline and went to the little island in the middle. Everything has been great, relaxing and enjoyable!! Morse Cribstone restaurant, the Dolphin restaurant, the Candy Shop (for ice cream), 2 Coves Farm for fresh meats and produce, The Vegetable Corner, the Island Eatery and taking a Lobster Boat Tour with Capt. Jay McGowen were all spectacular!! Harpswell is a wonderful area with very friendly people. We will be back!!

Laid back and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

lofty was our last stop before travelling home to England, we started in New York, then Boston a week in cape Cod and we arrived at Lofty needing a rest.... we were not disappointed, just the view from the balcony was enough to start the pulse slowing and the mind unwinding, it had taken us 5 hours to get here due to the traffic but boy was it worth it.

if your looking for all mod cons like air con then maybe its not for you but if you want to relax , swim, Kayak have fabulous walks, amazing sunrises and feel like you are back in touch with reality in a rustic setting Lofty IS for you. we ate in most lunchtimes and breakfasts but took advantage of the local restaurants and eateries for quite a few evening meals, be aware most have last food orders between 8-9 but that suited our laid back week.the two double bedrooms were great with the one we had having the benefit of the early morning sun and view out over the water, our youngest son slept in the Loft and enjoyed it but if you are tall it may not be suitable.

overall we loved it and would love to come back in the fall John was easy to get hold of and answered all our questions and sorted everything out .

a perfect end to a wonderful 3 week holiday.
