'Lofty' Waterfront Camp 'The Best Kept Secret in Harpswell!'

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

'Lofty' is a two+ bedroom waterfront Maine cottage with second floor loft (hence the name). Don't stay in an old musty cottage! Treat yourself to a newly and fully renovated camp that is ready for your next Maine vacation. 'Lofty' is located on a private, quiet,dead-end gravel road that lends itself to peaceful respites.

'Lofty' is the larger of a pair of cute cottages, the smaller of which was renovated in 2007 and is listed as VRBO #138154 or 'Cozy Oceanfront Cottage'. The twin cottage setup is ideal for larger family gatherings or groups who may wish to rent both for ultimate comfort and privacy. Perfect for occasions where one may prefer to have separate sleeping arrangements. Alternatively, they may be rented individually and still have lots of privacy as the lot size is large. Use of two sea kayaks is included with Lofty (exclusively)

'Lofty' is comfortable and easily accessible from Brunswick and Portland and features two private bedrooms with queen size beds as well as a loft space that will has two twin beds. One bedroom will have wide views of Quahog Bay. Kids will love sleeping in the loft, playing games and watching the boats and birds from the large windows. Full kitchen and open living design are the hallmarks of this cottage. Knotty pine interior and cathedral ceilings in the family/living room space make for a light open feeling. The floor plan is open with a kitchen living room space that flows onto a full size deck just feet from the waters edge. Large panoramic windows lend to an open feeling that extends the indoors out. Beautiful views from the kitchen and living area. Watch the ocean and sailboats from the deck or the warmth of the living room as you sit by the glow of the gas woodstove.

The huge over-sized dock and float with outdoor deck on the water's edge is a big attraction. The pier is probably one of the largest non-commercial structures on Quahog Bay. The rental of the home includes use of two kayaks during your stay. Boaters may be interested in renting the mooring for the week and arriving by boat.

Updated fotos of the interior and grounds are available in the links below.

Oh, by the way, 'Lofty' will be handicap accessible. A gentle ramp leads to a wide 36 inch door and open hallway and floor plan. The camp will be suitable for wheelchair bound or gait impaired guests. Please e-m ail with any specific questions.

We do rent into November so reserve your Fall Maine vacation soon! Can't afford a real relaxing vacation? I don't think so....e mail us now for more information on our Fall specials!

Renting a private home is different than staying at a hotel. It is important to ask questions before you reserve and to have realistic expectations. We have done our best to describe our properties, however, guest expectations vary. If you have special requests or needs please ask before you reserve. We want to avoid renter's remorse or the old "this was not what I thought it was going to be like". In most cases guests never asked any questions!!!! Refunds at the time of check in are not permitted.

Thanks guys! We really enjoyed our stay! Everything was great with the cottage. We picked up boiled lobsters from Erica's two nights and had dinner in the cottage then. We were basically out and exploring the rest of the time.

I think we enjoyed all the seafood we ate the best, but I think I'm lobstered out for a while!

Yes, pls send me a VRBO link and I'll try to write a will be positive!

Thanks for everything!

Functional and casual on the ocean

Good size and a good price. Campy feel on the Maine Coast. The heating system provided enough warmth for the low 40 temps of this time of year (Late November). Gave us an opportunity to explore Harpswell during the off season; a comfortable, quiet retreat.

This was our second visit to "Lofty" We loved it so much this summer that we decided to visit again in the fall. Unfortunatly there was a very bad wind storm that Sunday night leading into Monday. We lost the power and had no running water! We called the owners and left a voice mail but never got a response back! We waited a few hours but knowing the whole town was out with poles and wires down everywhere, we had no choice but to leave. we were hoping for some sort of rebate since 3 days of our trip was lost..but we never heard a word. We loved our visit this summer, but we were greatly disappointed with no response from the owners!

Owner's Response: Hi Jane We deeply apologize for the delay in responding. We value you as return guests and we pride ourselves on prompt communication and this did not happen in your case. We never received your voicemail message, likely due to the power outages/cell phone tower disruption. There was much turmoil outside with the weather as well as some personal health issues that interfered with our ability to respond in the manner that we are accustomed to. We would be happy to apply a partial credit to a return stay. We truly want you to enjoy Harpswell again and hope you will return soon. Warm regards and Happy Holidays! John and Karen PS We are planning some interior upgrades to Lofty for 2018 and we hope you can see them and let us know what you think!

The house was wonderful! We could not believe the stove in the living room heated the whole house!

Sitting on the deck having morning coffee was exactly what my husband, sister and I really needed to heal from our Mother passing in June! Mother was from Maine and we always enjoy visiting the state! We enjoyed the dock and the fire pit! Plus the beautiful surroundings. The houses location is close to shopping, sight seeing and restaurants. If you want a dynamite pizza go to Zach’s on Hwy 24! Webber’s Lobsters located just a few blocks from the house had great lobsters to take back to the house to cook!!! Our stay in the house and surrounding area was magical! Would recommend renting this house! Ready to go back!!

Beautiful location, great for boaters

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay at Lofty and we didn't want to leave... This is a beautiful waterfront property on Quahog Bay. Plenty of space, very well kept, awesome deck and views. Boaters take note; this is a great location for boating and fishing with an excellent deep water dock and mooring. It's also only a few minutes from the Great Island Boat Yard; a good spot to launch from for a small fee and refuel and they even let us keep our trailer there for the week at no cost. The bay was teeming with mackerel at times so bring a sabiki rig and catch your own bait! Our two golden retrievers had a great time and there's plenty of hiking trails nearby that permit off-leash dog walking. A great option for dog exercise is Mitchell Field in Harpswell with wide trails and an excellent dog-friendly beach. Can't wait to return next year!

Mooring is available at an additional fee, prior reservation is needed. The Town of Harpswell, located on Casco Bay, Is a short scenic ride from Portland, Freeport, Bath and Boothbay Maine. Harpswell is the unspoiled coastal community that is accessible by way of the beautiful Bowdoin College town of Brunswick. Harpswell is a unique coastal community which recently celebrated its 250th birthday. For over 100 years Harpswell has been a mecca for vacationers seeking a saltwater environment, a serene way of life, and an abundance of natural beauty. Its 216 miles of coastline consists of Harpswell Neck, the three large islands of

Sebascodegan (Great Island), Orr’s, and Bailey, which are connected by bridges, the most notable being The Cribstone Bridge, and a scattering of over 200 smaller islands accessible only by boat. With some of the few remaining working harbors on the Maine coast, it offers an authenticity of which we are proud.

Harpswell has it all! Light houses, Ocean views, walking trails, beaches, Historical sites, working lobster harbors and marinas all here in the Mid Coast Maine region.
