About Brian & Barb Meckes
I was raised in the country outside of Palmerton, PA. My wife grew up in Morris Plains, NJ. We met at work in the mid 80’s and married shortly afterward. We moved to the Orlando, FL area in the late 80’s and lived there for approximately 20 years. While in Florida we had two children – Jessi & Alex. Jessi loves anything and everything about horses and Alex enjoys living the big city life (lived in NYC after college and now lives in Boston). In 2006 we moved to the Raleigh, NC area and shortly afterward fell in love with the Asheville, NC area. We decided we would someday retire in this area.
Brian & Barb Meckes purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Brian & Barb Meckes chose Broad River
While Florida offered warm weather, many attractions and beautiful beaches – we missed the mountains. A friend owned a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in Blairsville, GA. We vacationed there often and enjoyed the hikes, views and country air. Eventually work led us to Raleigh, NC. We vacationed in the Asheville area and immediately fell in love with the beauty of the mountains. We decided we wanted to purchase an early retirement home in the area. It took three years and many miles of driving but we finally found the house we knew we would call home. It happened to be Linger Lake Lodge.
What makes this Cabin unique
Private and peaceful setting overlooking a 2 acre stocked lake. Two streams on the property, an apple orchard and lots of open area for children to play. Approximately 15 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. The shops of Hendersonville and Black Mountain are approximately 25 minutes. The city of Asheville is approximately 40 minutes from our home.

A great vacation spot for multiple generations
What a beautiful and private location! Nine of us from ages 9 to 65 had plenty of room to be together, but also to be alone when we wanted down time. The bubbling brook provided a soothing backdrop for family interactions. The young boys loved the large grass area to the side of the house for playing soccer. Of course, fishing on the property and close-by hiking were big hits!
The house was perfect for our 3 families!
Perfect place for families to enjoy the mountains! Plenty of space to run and play and an awesome pond to fish! Very close to shops, restaurants, and great hiking at Chimney Rock!
A perfect mountain retreat choice!
Pictures say alot but being there confirms it. LLL is the ideal family or couples retreat. Roomy, pristine inside and out, and fully stocked to accommodate your every need be it a coffee on the screened-in porch, or a peaceful rocking chair on the deck while listening to the constant stream just feet away. I walked the property to get my exercise without worry of falling off a steep precipice. We enjoyed the fire pit immensely but overlooked the weenie/marshmallow roaster sticks in the utility room until we were packing up. That's how equipped this place is - coffee pot, filters, you name it. We contributed just a few items to the "if you need" items in the kitchen pantry. And the welcome basket was a complete surprise. The cooks in our group were full of praise for the thoughtful owners. Barb and Brian have thought of EVERYthing a group needs to avoid last minute drives down the mountain for what you may need. Even Benedryl was helpful to one guest that was stung on the foot. The drive up to LLL is a bit daunting for those with height fears but once you arrive, the property is nothing but peaceful, calm and soothing to your soul. We hope to be back again next year!
Thank you Brian and Barb for all your prompt and helpful messages during the planning stages of our trip to Linger Lake Lodge. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
Hi Ginger - Thank you for your kind words. It sounds like you and your guests had an enjoyable stay. Our family will be spending Thanksgiving at LLL and everyone is so excited. I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday and it would be great to see you back again in the future. Brian & Barb
Perfect Fall Getaway
We recently stayed at this property with two other families and there was plenty of room. The property has open fields, a stream that runs through it, Apple trees, a fire pit and so much more. The kids enjoyed the cool weather outside and we did a campfire s’mores night one night.
The property is very clean. I was especially happy that the bathrooms were spotless and new. We lost power one night but luckily, there was a generator on site and the owners were very helpful responding and helping us.
Overall this was a wonderful stay. One other side note, the driveway was easy to access. We have stayed at other properties where the driveway was very steep and hard to get to should it snow. That shouldn’t be a concern here.
We are glad you and your guests enjoyed your stay at our NC mountain house. The property does allow kids ample room to play and explore. I'm also glad the generator came in handy the one night during your stay. We hope to see you back sometime in the future. You were great guests!

Beautiful home and property
Enjoyed our stay Oct 2017. Home slept comfortably. Gorgeous deck. Plenty of room to roam. Not quite as secluded as we thought.
We are glad you enjoyed the house and property. When Barb and I have the opportunity to stay at the house we spend most of our time on the deck or porch area enjoying the sounds of nature. Hope you visit our house again sometime in the future.
