We loved the cottage! We considered both Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor for our vacation, and were very happy with the choice we made. We did visit Bar Harbor for an evening, which was nice, but we preferred the less "hustle and bustle" feel of Southwest Harbor. The cottage was much closer to the downtown area than we expected, which was great. There are plenty of good restaurants to choose from--more than enough for a week, for sure! The popovers at the Common Good (delicious with the honey cinnamon butter and blueberry preserves) were better than the ones at the Jordan Pond House, and far easier to get to--just a 2 minute walk, for a good cause, and no bees! We really enjoyed Coda as well. The black garlic gnocchi, the sausages, and the New York strip steak were all great.

We enjoyed the easy access to Acadia and had some gorgeous hikes and bike rides. It was also easy to go for a nice run right from the property. Sidewalks and fresh sea air--can't beat that!

We had a plumbing issue during our stay and the owners responded immediately. The issue was resolved while we were out and about for the day, which was much appreciated.

The cottage itself is very nice, well maintained and well equipped. We were lucky not to have a rainy day, but if we had, we'd have surely taken advantage of the games, books, DVD's, and umbrella provided. We would definitely stay here again, and hope to! Thank you, John and Barbara!

Charming cottage in a great spot!

  • 5 of 5

This is a little gem just about two blocks from "downtown" Southwest Harbor. Everything you need is provided, and the place itself is beautiful. There are three different outside areas to enjoy. It is an easy walk to restaurants, including to Beals Lobster House. One thing to note is that it has a spiral staircase, so it is not appropriate for those with limited mobility. We loved our week in the cottage!

Cozy, quiet and well-equipped!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect spot for my husband and me for a week of vacation in Maine. Our hostess, Barbara, was very warm and welcoming; we enjoyed being on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island in a peaceful, restful neighborhood, but still within walking distance of a number of restaurants and attractions. We were delighted at how well-equipped the cottage was - we had everything we needed to cook meals and wash clothes, and it wasn't a long drive over to the Loop Road, Cadillac Mountain and other Acadia attractions, or to Bar Harbor. Thanks for a great week!

Quaint and quiet- just perfect!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is lovely, both inside and out. It is very well-maintained, clean, and serenely quiet. The owners clearly thought about what people would need and like to have while on vacation. The kitchen was well equipped. The outside areas looked very inviting but, unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us an opportunity to enjoy them. We LOVED being able to walk to town and walked to dinner each night. We were very impressed with the restaurants, especially Red Sky.

Clean, comfortable, great location and fun!

  • 5 of 5

When we first saw the Central Cottage online, we thought it would be perfect for us and it did not disappoint. Though small it was all the room we needed and we were impressed with how well it was maintained and how well stocked it was with all the essentials needed. We talked to Barbara a couple of times and she and John were very responsive. The proximity to downtown was great and we could easily walk to stores and restaurants. It was our first visit to Southwest Harbor but it won't be our last!

Wonderful in-town but quiet and private cottage in Southwest Harbor

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this great little cottage. Tucked away on a quiet street yet only a few minutes walk to the center of Southwest Harbor. The cottage is fairly new but has all the charm of an older place, with detailed woodwork, fairly tale appearance from the outside, two porches, and totally private back terrace. Modern amenities include cook's kitchen with high end appliances, granite countertops, dining counter, french doors to patio with grille, circular staircase to second floor, wood paneled cathedral ceiling in upstairs bedroom, amazing tiled shower, and great built in sound system for your modern devices like iPod and iPhone. The cottage was immaculately clean and stocked with everything you need for cooking. Barbara and John live 15 minutes away so are available if needed, and made sure everything was going well. Southwest Harbor is on the quiet side of the island, but has the feel of a real town with many decent restaurants, hardware store, library, two grocery stores, and of course Beal's Lobster Pier, our favorite for seafood. And all within walking distance. We would highly recommend this cottage to any couple or family with a baby, and plan to stay there again ourselves.
