Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 and 1/2 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 7)

Perched high above the private beach, this stylish 3 bedroom, summer cottage is 'old Lakeside' at its best, with drop-dead sunsets and a broad, white-sand beach. The spacious living room has a handsome local-stone fireplace, wood floors, a sleeping alcove, plenty of comfortable seating and a full wall of windows facing the lake, with sliding glass doors onto a large, full-length porch. A pass-though from the kitchen to the porch makes serving meals a breeze; both the porch and living room have dining tables seating 8. The one in the living room can easily be moved to the porch for big parties.

Off the living room alcove with a very comfortable queen-sized bed, a bathroom with shower leads to two bedrooms with ceiling fans and air conditioning. The Lake Bedroom has a king bed (two connected twins which can be separated if needed) and a wonderful view of the water. The Woods Bedroom has twin beds. Both bedrooms have ample closet space and doors to the exterior stone terrace with a gas grill.

Share our beach stairs with our cousins next door; there is a charming old pump house midway down for storing your beach gear.

Because this house sits high on the bluff surrounded by mature oaks, wildlife watching is a constant pleasure. Fill the feeders and watch hummingbirds just feet from the porch; great blue herons, pileated woodpeckers, waterfowl and countless warblers will make you want to bring your binoculars. Rental kayaks are available in nearby New Buffalo as is almost anything else you can think of. If you get a stormy night, lightning displays out over the lake can be awe-inspiring, and the next day you will be rewarded with excellent body-surfing.

A minimum one-week rental is required.

Fabulous!

Sitting in the large screened porch, up on the bluff, high in the tall trees on both sides with the stunning expanse of Lake Michigan and big sky directly in front of you - it's perfect! The lake can change daily from peaceful ripples lapping the shore to wild roaring whitecaps, and everything in between. Who needs TV when you can watch this show! Waking up each morning in the alcove bed with that view in front of me, always a pleasure to see and hear what Mother Nature has to offer that day. Even if it rains you can still enjoy watching Lake Michigan from the covered porch. The beach is very private and great for long walks or just plain sitting still. The southeastern shore of Lake Michigan offers up some of the best sunsets ever. Whether you're seeking solitude and communion with nature, or prefer an active vacation with family and friends, this location has it all. The towns up and down this part of the Lake Michigan shore, known collectively as Harbor Country, have something for everyone. Visit harborcountry.org online for lots of helpful information. There are a variety of good local restaurants - no carbon copy franchises! The Playhouse kitchen, though, is very well equipped for creating any meal. Nearby towns offer excellent food shopping if you want to eat in or picnic on the beach. Experience a local wine tasting just a few minutes drive away. Some of Michigan's wines are surprisingly good. There is a lovely tennis court on the Playhouse property shared by neighboring houses. Bring or rent water sport equipment and your bicycles. Go hiking in nearby state/local parks. Even if you feel the need to stay connected to cyberspace, the Playhouse has wifi so you can research all that there is to do in Harbor Country. The Playhouse is a great space meant for fun and relaxation, ease and comfort - very comfy beds, plenty of pillows and extra blankets/quilts if it gets chilly at night. Plus there's that beautiful stone fireplace! All was very clean and ready for my arrival, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. The owner responds quickly to any questions or concerns and clearly cares about this amazing vacation property. I've been visiting this area for many years and am so glad I discovered the Playhouse. I'll be back for sure.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Playhouse recently and had a most enjoyable time. There is a breathtaking view from almost every room in the house. We enjoyed peaceful mornings on the screened-in porch, cup of coffee in hand. Even when grilling, you can look out over the water and hear the waves. We enjoyed biking, shopping in St. Joe's and Saugatuck, playing tennis, and lounging on the very private beach. Even when we had a couple of chilly days, we had a wonderful time playing board games indoors next to a crackling fire. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. Also, our security deposit was returned within days of returning home. Overall, a wonderful & memorable vacation!!

Awesome views of Lake Michigan!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4, plus the dog, truly enjoyed our week at the Playhouse. We've stayed at other rentals and this one by far has been better than the rest, mainly because of the breathtaking views of Lake Michigan. Sit on the enclosed porch and watch the waves, Wow! The Playhouse was clean and has all of the necessities you'll need during your stay. Since this is truly a beach home don't expect any fancy décor as that's not the purpose of staying at the Playhouse. Enjoy the private beach, and yes I do mean private! The week we chose was very private as we had the beach to ourselves and wonderful weather too, who could ask for more! The owner was absolutely wonderful and answered our questions promptly and was very helpful if anything was needed. We would most definitely return to the Playhouse, and I highly recommend this property to anyone who's interested in exploring the beauty of Lake Michigan in Southwest Michigan. There are also plenty of things to do in the area; good food, shopping, etc....One thing to note is that there are several steps to the Playhouse from the parking area as it is on a bluff, if there are any mobility issues this could be a problem. The steps to the beach aren't too steep, but again, there are several involved. A very relaxing vacation, & one we will remember for a long time! I'm hoping we can return next year!

I stayed here last year. The view is magnificent since the place sits high on a bluff. The place was clean and pleasant and easy to find, and the owner is very kind and reasonable and fair concerning a security deposit or anything else. I looked for a place to write a review as I wanted to recommend it to others, and I just found it, albeit a year after I stayer there. I would definitely go back again. It is dog friendly and it is very easy to sweep the beach sand out. It even has a dishwasher!
