This cabin in the woods is secluded yet close to the surrounding small towns we wanted to visit. Brenda the owner is quick to respond to any questions and is delightful.

Fun Filled Weekend in this "Gem"!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I needed a weekend getaway to help us get through the craziness of the school year (I'm a teacher), and this cabin was just the ticket! We arrived around 9:00 on Friday night and didn't get a chance to see the actual property, but we were pleased with the cabin upon entry. It wasn't as big as our home which is 3,000+ square feet and lends itself to everyone going off to do their own things in their own areas. This cabin is small and cozy and was perfect for reconnecting with each other. When we woke up on Saturday morning, we couldn't wait to go and explore the property. Our children, ages 8, 9, and 10, were immediately drawn to the pond. We went fishing twice that day, and each of us caught one fish. There is a nominal fee per pound of fish that you catch and the owners are fabulous enough to fillet the trout for 75 cents per pound, all which was worth it. The cabin is very close to the DuPont State Forest, which has numerous trails and waterfalls to explore. Brevard and Hendersonville are also a short drive away, which gave us many options for dining out for dinner. Our children continued to thank us for this trip throughout our stay. It was the best weekend we've had in a LONG time.

If you're looking for a cozy, private cabin for a little getaway, this is it! We plan to rent this cabin again in the future!

Serenity in the Forest

  • 5 of 5

My Wife and I wanted to find a peaceful retreat and learn a little about the topography of Western North Carolina. Our search lead us to a brief stay in close proximity to the Du Pont State Park and Hendersonville.

The Cabin was very nice. The pictures online may give you a hint of how nice this is, but being there in person and seeing with our own eyes was much better!

The waterfalls were outstanding and alone could make the visit worthwhile, but the entire area is abundant with natural beauty and friendly people.

Locally we barely scratched the surface, but two things worked quite well.

The Hendersonville Co-Op offered much to chose from for meal preparation.

Haus Hiedelberg's German fare was superb.

We had a very memorable stay!

Wonderful, relaxing vacation.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was fantastic! It is buried in the woods; possibly the most private place we have ever rented. The last bit of the road can be tricky; steep gravel and a bit wash-boarded. It is obviously maintained, but still...should be noted. For the record, we drove it for a week in a Ford Flex with purely street tires and survived, so most vehicles should be fine. The proximity to multiple waterfalls, Brevard, A Pretty Place (a MUST see!), and Asheville if you need something bigger, makes this a near perfect location for a trip to western NC. Would definitely recommend!

PROS AND CONS

  • 3 of 5

Pros and Con List -.August 2016

Pros: Fair rate, close to state forest, nice hiking trails behind cabin, fairly clean, nicely decorated, good supply of essentials (paper towels, towels, soap, etc), good supply of pots and pans in kitchen, etc. Plenty of space/beds for people, hot/cold water, nice large porch on front of cabin, neat and tidy grounds. Supply of books and magazines to read was a nice touch. AC works very well. Everything was simple and useful in the cabin - nothing took away from the beautiful logs and fireplace. Simple clean up list (wash and put up dishes, sweep, take trash to their garage building on way out, put all towel and bedding in hamper).

-------

Cons: **$3.00 per pound trout fee** this fee needs to be listed on here instead of a note left on the table at the cabin upon check in. Had we known of the fee we would have just left our fishing gear at home! I understand the cost involved to stock a small pond, but a 1-fish per person limit would have been just fine. Cleanliness.. the cabin could have been cleaned better. Hair in the shower, half empty Gatorade bottle stuck in the couch,.dried food on dishes, etc. Just general cleaning issues, nothing too bad. Beds are uncomfortable - to each their own, but IMHO the old mattress could stand replacing (only slept in master, so I do not.know the comfort status of the loft beds. Privacy.. while we were thankful to be given space and not contacted, we didn't know the owners lived right across the small trout pond. Lastly *road to cabin* would be somewhat difficult for a driver with a low clearance vehicle that is not accustomed to driving mountain roads.

P.S. Cotton strip drenched in peppermint oil stuffed in vent was so strong our eyes burned and watered upon walking into cabin. We removed strip of cotton and opened the windows. A small defuser might work better for this approach.

P.S.S. Visitors to the area make sure to check out sliding rock for some summer water fun there are two great roadside ice cream establishments in town of Brevard!
