Enjoy your vacation at this beautiful and serene setting, right next to the Audubon Society's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, north of Rt.6A in the Cummaquid area, with 2 surrounding acres of nature that attract many different types of birds, butterflies, and berries and also offers a relaxing and private setting to come home to after a day at the beach, whale watching, biking, shopping and the many other activities the area offers! This is a great home for an extended family vacation or groups of 6-7 friends for a getaway! For the summer season June-Labor Day stay for a week or more, in the off-season come for a 3-night stay or more! With the 2 gas fireplaces in this home, the Cape is a great place to visit in the Fall, Winter, and Spring too!

Recently totally renovated, spacious air conditioned home is immaculate (in summer season a/c units in each bedroom and all living spaces), 2.5 bathrooms and a private outdoor shower on the deck, outdoor living space and a yard surrounded by acres of nature and beauty. First floor includes master bedroom with a king size bed along with a large full bath (walk-in shower), a combined living/dining area with a gas fireplace for those chilly nights to warm up next to while enjoying a glass of wine, and an open and fully-equipped kitchen with eat-at counter and 4 highback chairs, Also on first floor is a large 1/2 bath with washer and dryer and all supplies needed for laundry prep.

Walk up the stairs to another large living room with another gas fireplace, entertainment center, and desk/work area for those few times you might need to work at one. This home will make you forget about work, but there is space to get it done, just in case, with WiFi included also. Second floor also includes a large full bathroom with bathtub and shower, 2 large bedrooms with one bedroom with a king bed, plus a twin bed, other bedroom has one bunk bed with a twin on top and a double bed on the bottom and two more twin beds. Also included is a Pack-n-Play for the little ones. Plenty of room for groups of 7-8 guests.

If you ever decide to leave the comfort of this home, you are only 1/2 mile walk from the Audubon Society's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary with beautiful grass trails and meadows while on your way to Barnstable Harbor and the beach at the end of Bone Hill Road. Take a short ride to Millway Beach (lifeguarded) and along that road you'll find the Whale Watch excursion boat, and deep sea fishing charters and several of the finest restaurants in the area. Take a ride 10 minutes away and you'll come to the Cape Cod Mall, Hyannis and Island ferry boats to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket! Along Rt. 6A you'll find speciality shops, restaurants, general/country stores, antique shops, and so much more. And don't forget all the other Town of Barnstable fresh water and ocean beaches that the landlord beach pass gives you free access to!

About J. Cameron Smith

We came to the Cape over 20 years ago and fell in love with it. If you haven't already visited before, we are sure you will fall in love with it too! The photo is at the Audubon Society Long Pasture Meadow Beach at the end of Bone Hill Road that is 1/2 mile away walking through the beautiful Pasture's paths.

J. Cameron Smith purchased this house in 2007

Why J. Cameron Smith chose Cape Cod

My family bought our Cape home because we the love the area and want to live here someday. The home is close to Barnstable Harbor, Audubon Society Wildlife Sanctuary Sandy Neck beach, and Rt. 6A, and although close to Hyannis and all the amenities, it feels like we are far away from the hustle and bustle. Being close to the Audubon Society's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary allows us a beautiful walk to the beach through the grass and meadow trails and also brings all the birds and their beauty right to our home.

What makes this house unique

The quaintness of Barnstable village and the bay side of the Cape offers 'Old Cape Cod' feel with everything from beaches to restaurants to shops to malls to whale watches, bike rides, long nature walks, to stress-relieving relaxation!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This lovely home offers a peaceful and private setting, yet is located ideally for exploring the Cape. Our family enjoyed walking to the beach at sunset, boogie-boarding in the waves of the Cape's beautiful beaches, taking in Cape Cod League baseball games, and cooling off with a swim after a long bike ride. The house is well-organized and thoughtfully equipped with everything you might need on vacation, and the owner's tips on restaurants, beaches and other local information were invaluable. For our family, this was the perfect spot for a great summer vacation! Alex A. of Chevy Chase, MD Vacationed August 2009

Beautiful Cape Cod Vacation Rental!

VRBO Bear stayed here

Sep 12, 2011

This little Bear really enjoyed his trip to Barnstable and the Cape. This beautiful house is an easy drive from all of the major cities in New England, and an easy drive to the Cape Cod National Seashore and Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket ferries. The house has a friendly feel that makes it so you cannot help but relax. It also has wonderful natural light throughout. Perfect for a family or couples, it has all the necessary amenities to make you feel at home. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful landscape, numerous trails within walking distance and a number of wonderful restaurants nearby. Without all the city lights, you can enjoy the simply amazing view of a star-filled sky on a clear night. So come, relax and enjoy this beautiful Cape Cod home for yourself! You’ll be glad you did. I was expecting a better equipped house.

  • 3 of 5

I guess I am not used to Cape Cod Rentals (although we have rented in Martha's Vineyard twice and in Chatham once). The most serious problem was an inadequate supply of toilet paper (a total of 1-1/2 rolls for 3 bathrooms). We only discovered the shortage after we had used up half of the supply. The other deficiency was a lack of silverware to serve more than 6 people. We were visiting family and would have liked to have entertained more than 4 guests for a meal. That really would have been very difficult. I will say that the glassware and especially the wine glasses were excellent both in quantity and quality.

The house very nicely appointed and well designed and furnished. The toys for our grand kids were great and the yard is very large. The house is incredibly quiet which made it very nice on the mornings we wanted to sleep in. Knowing what I know now, I would rent the house again but check the toilet paper and paper towels as soon as I walked in.

I got into quite a tiff with the owner. Her biggest complaint was that my son dared to bring some food and staples for us, left in a couple of bags on the kitchen counter, and arrived before 4:00pm. A huge taboo for this owner.

Owner's Response: Thank you for letting me know that I need to replenish my eating utensils which I will do before my next guests arrive on Saturday. You had mentioned to me that you had not read the lease until I re-sent it to you midweek of your stay, so it is understandable that you were not clear on the terms of the lease. As I nicely explained to you, when guests arrive 3 hours before the agreed to arrival time of 4 pm, my home is often still being cleaned and moving things into the home before the agreed to arrival/access time impacts the cleaning crew's ability to clean thoroughly without moving guests' items brought into the home before they are finished cleaning. Providing a clean home for my guests is very important to me! The lease also clearly states that renters are responsible for all consumables including toilet paper, paper towels, etc; however, I do start each guests' stay with all 3 bathrooms equipped with fresh rolls of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels in the kitchen and plenty of laundry, dishwashing, and dishwasher detergents, many kitchen consumables and ask my guests before departing my home to replenish any owner provided supplies which they have depleted. So hopefully you now understand that it is important to read and print out a copy of the lease prior to arrival to understand the terms you have agreed to when you booked your vacation stay. Other than that, I am glad you enjoyed your vacation and stay at my home!

Great house for 2 families

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house. It is in a quiet location but convenient to Barnstable Village. It is a good set up for Grandparents and a family with kids. Janet has provided all linens and this is a big plus. The only downside ( if you consider it one) it the lack of current technology in the home. The WiFi is perfect but the old CRT monitors are not! So if you really enjoy TV in the evening this is not a good experience. Janet has a beach pass for all Barnstable beaches and we spent most days on Craigsville Beach but you need to arrive early, be 10:30. Great weather and nice, clean house. Enjoy.

Beautiful home, located on major route on Cape which is easily accessible to everything!

  • 5 of 5

First off Janet was amazing. Her home is beautiful and located in a great place that is easily accessible to everything.

Janet was super accommodating and a pleasure to work with in renting her home. The cleaning lady she uses is equally as nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this property for your summer vacation down the cape!

All the amenities needed to make you feel at home!

  • 5 of 5

A week of comfort and enjoyment! We were two couples with three kids ages 3, 4 and 5. We were never bored and neither were the kids even on a rainy day. The house is very spacious and has everything you need as if it was your own. Great indoor space for the kids to play and outdoor space for the kids along with games, toys, umbrellas and chairs for the beach. A great center location near everything you need and beautiful beaches close by. Our favorite beach was Chapin beach with the most beautiful clear water and the kids had a blast collecting hermit crabs. Janet was very accommodating and easy to reach with any questions or concerns. Our first Cape Cod experience was a wonderful and staying here was definitely part of the reason.

Lovely House - Quiet Location

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Cummaquid (Barnstable). Janet's listing is right on - the house is as lovely as it appears in the photos, if not more so. The house has been recently renovated and it feels like a brand new home with outstanding accommodations. New appliances, good Wifi, an extra refrigerator in the garage, and plenty of storage; this enabled us to keep the house nice and neat, even though there were eight of us there most of the time. The children (4 ages 10 to 15) loved the outdoor shower and are begging their father to put one in when they get home!

From the Barnstable location we were able to explore other parts of Cape Cod within an hours drive. We drove to Nauset Beach one day, passing through some lovely small villages and towns. Locally we enjoyed the Barnstable beaches, and thanks to having a beach pass available, we were able to park at all the Barnstable beaches at no cost, a savings of $20.00 per visit.

I would highly recommend this house to large families, two families traveling together, or like us, two generations of a family gathering together for some summer fun. It really worked for us!

Beautiful house and location!

  • 5 of 5

This house is beautiful with lots of room and good location. It's centrally located and an easy drive to many beautiful beaches. The house comes with many nice additions, including toys for the kids (my daughter loved discovering the toy box upstairs!), beach toys for bringing to the beach, and even outdoor toys for the kids to play in the yard. The sitting area in the garage is really nice and the outdoor shower was great. The house was bigger than we expected and the bedrooms were perfect for my daughter and her two cousins, while still having plenty of room for the adults. Thank you so much - we are hoping we can come back again next year!
