Iniskeel (Irish translation: Behind the Sea) is situated at the end of a private, seashell-lined lane. The house was built in 1954 as our family vacation home. It boasts five bedrooms and two full bathrooms; unforgettable ocean views and picture perfect Cape Cod sunsets.
We sit waterfront on the bend in Oyster River with spectacular views of Nantucket Sound. The house is just steps to the water, one mile to beautiful Harding’s Beach and approximately two miles to downtown Chatham.
There is a footpath from the home to the town landing. This is a great place to rent kayaks, collect shells, and watch the boats come and go. Kids love it there as it provides hours of fun and exploration. We have been lucky enough, on occassion, to have a fisherman hand us a freshly caught striped bass!
Bring your boat! For those who wish to bring their boat, canoe, kayak, etc., it is a great spot. The town landing is so close and accessible by foot. Our driveway can accommodate most boats and trailers.
Also, don't forget your bikes! The Cape has a wonderful bike trail, stretching for miles and miles. If you don't want to bring your own, there are places to rent them in town.
Tenants are to supply their own bed linens and towels. If you do not wish to bring your own, there are many local linen rental companies. Please see the 'links' section. Mattress pads, quilts, pillows, and extra blankets are provided by the homeowner.
Maximum Occupancy - 8
This is a non smoking home and we regret, no pets.
The homeowner can also provide tenants with a local company which rents all items needed for children (cribs, high chairs, boosters, potties, etc.). This is great for families not wanting to lug all of that gear. It is very reasonably priced and clean. Many items are brand new. They can arrange for delivery and set up as well!
My Grandparents built this home back in 1954. They summered here with their five children for many, many years. I have been coming here my entire life and feel very blessed to be able to now share this amazing place with my three young children. Chatham has become very special to us. My husband proposed to me at the house, overlooking the river, and we were married in Chatham a year later.
My family is hoping to keep this house in the family for generations to come. In order for us to do this we have chosen to share this special place with our tenants. We hope other families make memories here that are as happy as ours.
Our family spent one delicious week at Iniskeel which we will never forget (and hope to some day replicate!) Imagine us fools coming down for breakfast in the morning and suddenly we STOP and simply stare out of the living room window. Just mesmerized by the view of the colorful boats on the inlet. The way the sun shines on the boats in the morning is breathtaking. No less so in the evening, while we sit on the patio and sip a glass of wine... listening to the lapping of the water and watching the sun's rays wash the boats with a golden hew in front of our very eyes. Perfect for photographs, perfect for a truly relaxing vacation.
The bedrooms are plenty large enough, with our family's favorite bedroom being the twin bedroom upstairs in the very top of the house... another great view. Our girls each had their own bedroom, but all of them loved that one the best and spent one night altogether there.
The description of the property is accurate although the photographs don't do it justice. Betsy is a tremendous help, answered all my questions and wanted only to make our vacation time with them joyous. And it was! Very clean and well maintained! I would recommend this property wholeheartedly.
While nearby you HAVE TO visit Marion's Pie Shop but get there early for the best selection! We stopped a few times during the week, they have oodles of pies and other baked goods. Delicious!
Check out the Chatham Light House it's open one night during the week and it's free to climb to the top! The sheltered beach there is one of our favorites! Because of the barrier sand bar, the water there is calm and they keep the beach very clean.
We highly recommend this house... only save a week for us because we do intend to return!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming old Cape home. Having grown up on the Cape, we return each summer for a week at the beach. This was the best view we have ever found - simply beautiful! We walked through the back path and rented kayaks which were easy and safe for the children to use on the river. To get to Hardings we chose to drop off a car load of gear, then have only one person have to do the mile walk. Inside the home were all the amenities we needed - a separate TV room was a bonus for the teens, WiFi kept my husband connected, and the gas grill kept us well fed. It is an older home and while we were there the basement shower did not work, but with 2 updated full baths, and a hose outside to rinse feet, we did not miss it. The 5 bedrooms worked perfectly for our family with 3 teens plus my parents. The owners have taken great care of this classic Cape, and we have already booked again for this coming summer!
We enjoyed a week in August in your beautiful home. We needed lots of space and individual bedrooms, and your home was perfect for our large family - lots of quiet places for the little ones to nap, but still enough space for the rest of us to hang out and not have to whisper! It has every amennity that we needed and more. But the best thing for us was the view - wow! Priceless! We spent so many lazy afternoons in the back enjoying the beautiful views of the water and plentiful summer breezes. We can't wait to return next year. Thank you!
