2600 sq ft Mountain Home at Base of Mount Magazine, 10 Minutes to State Park
About Jeff Spencer
We are retired NASA engineers who live in Madison, Alabama. We love to travel, read, camp, hike and enjoy the company of friends and family.
Jeff Spencer purchased this House in 1989
Why Jeff Spencer chose Paris
My father-in-law, J C Horn, was born in New Blaine, Arkansas, a short distance from Paris. My mother-in-law, Myra Lee Hutchison, was born and raised in Paris. After they married, they moved to Memphis, TN where they lived and worked for 40+ years. When they retired in the late 1980's, they built Myra's Mountain Retreat as their retirement home. My father-in-law was an avid gardener and Myra would can and freeze fruits and vegetables grown in their garden. We've enjoyed visiting their retirement home for 30 years. When my wife's parents passed, she inherited the property. We decided that we enjoyed the home and area so much that rather than sell it, we'd turn it into a vacation home for us, our family and friends. We also decided to offer it as a vacation rental as well. We hope guests and their families enjoy it and take care of it so that it will be there for us and for you for years to come.
What makes this House unique
There are many things we enjoy about Myra's Mountain Retreat. We love the rural setting and proximity to the many hiking trails in the beautiful Ozark National Forest. We enjoy that it's only a 10 minute drive to Magazine Mountain State Park where there is a glorious drive around Cameron's Bluff with its amazing views of the Arkansas River valley. The Mount Magazine State Park Lodge also provides beautiful views of Blue Mountain Lake. One can also watch Hang Gliders take off and soar out over the valley below. The Lodge also is home to the Sky View Restaurant where guests can dine while looking out over the valley below from 2500 feet up. Myra's Mountain Retreat also is very close to Arkansas Wine country in Altus, Arkansas. Six wineries make Altus their home and it's a lot of fun to see how grapes and grown and made into wine. Also, given the property's elevation of approximately 1400 feet above sea level it's typically 4-5 degrees cooler than down in the valley. The best benefit for guests is that for the price of a single room at the Lodge, you get a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home!

Perfect home away from home!
Myra’s Mountain Retreat was exactly what our large family needed to enjoy the holidays! Plenty of room for everyone and wonderful amenities. The homes location is secluded enough to get away for some peace and quiet but local activities are still close enough to enjoy if you want to get out. The property managers were easily available. We look forward to visiting again in the future!

Quiet and soothing
The home was exactly where we needed to be. Near the road but not a very busy one. The organization and labeling of the homes kitchen was outstanding. The decor and comfort of the home made you feel relaxed and the updates in the renovation were done well. Plenty of room to just walk around and enjoy the outside. With all this home offers all you need to do is show up with clothes.
We are pleased your family enjoyed your stay and thank you for taking the time to write a review. Happy Holidays!
