NOW BOOKING FOR FALL AND WINTER WEEKENDS
Our lake home is a beautiful year round home with a cabin feel but all of the amenities of a home. The home features knotty pine interior with wood floors and a large natural stone fireplace in the center of the cabin. The great room is 2 stories with a wall of windows facing the lake. The outside of the cabin is log.
Inside there are 4 bedrooms with the master bedroom (Queen) and guest room (2 twins) on opposite sides of the main level. Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms, one with a queen log bed and the second 'kids' room with 2 twin beds, a trundle & full bed . The loft area is open for extra sleeping (with a pull-out full bed) or relaxing. There is also a sun room on the main level with a single hide-a-bed.
The property is 450' of lake shore frontage with a huge sand beach in front of the cabin. The water is crystal clear all summer and the elevation is very gradual so it's ideal for children. We have a long dock that can be used for fishing or just sunning. There is also a fire pit on the beach with double swing chairs so enjoy the evenings outdoors. We have a NEW 20' pontoon boat (seats 10) and 2 kayaks which are included in the rental. We also have beach toys and bikes for our renters to use.
Shell Lake is a 2600 acre lake known for it's clean water & sandy beaches. All of the usual lake activities are available. There is a public landing in town so you can bring your boat along.
Please note that the City of Shell Lake recently passed an ordinance limiting the maximum # of occupants in a rental home to 10 so we cannot accommodate any groups larger than 10.

Our family built this cabin for our personal use in 1990. We have 2 girls and they enjoyed spending their summer weekends 'at the lake'. Since they are now grown and we no longer have the time to spend as much time there, we decided to share our lake home with others.
May Swenson purchased this cabin in 1990
We built on Shell Lake because it was within 2 hours of the Twin Cities and had crystal clear water with sandy beaches. We like the 'up north' feeling of the area and the local towns & attractions.
We have 2 extra lots on either side of the cabin so there is a lot of privacy. We try to stock the cabin so that all our guests need to bring is their clothes & food. We provide everything else. We hope that our guests will treat our cabin as they do their own homes. We have many returning families each year as we have become their summer vacation home.
The house had everything we needed for the weeks stay. The sleeping arrangements were great and the kids loved the area between the two bedrooms in the loft when they were told they needed to come in out of the sun for awhile.
The kitchen had everything we needed and the extra refrigerator in the garage was a blessing since three families coming together from different parts of the country came prepared with way too much food.
The beach and dock were great for all ages (5 to 66). We swan, fished, walked, biked, pontooned and relaxed. One son-in-law golfed 4 different golf courses. He was the only one who really left the property.
The wildlife was amazing. An eagle spent one whole morning in a tree on the property. We also saw deer, great blue herons, leopard frogs, Ospreys, and more.
Kayaking was wonderful as was the use of the pontoon. There was no real need to leave the property during the week. Coffee on the deck in the morning, grilling some really wonderful brats from Louie's Meats in Cumberland, s'mores down by the fire pit. It was just perfect, a vacation no one in our family will forget.
Friday morning as we prepared to leave I heard my 12 year old granddaughter say, while hugging the post in the kitchen "I love you cabin!"
We were thrilled when we walked into the cabin! The pictures above don't do this cabin justice - updated appliances, comfortable beds, great views, and an incredible fireplace as the centerpiece. 7 of ys stayed for 3 nights/4 days and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We had a great time and will definitely be coming back!
8 of us stayed for a beautiful weekend escape at this "cabin"! It was everything we wanted. Lots of comfortable seating, a fireplace, enough sleeping space and other space for us to relax in. The deck is great, except we were bombarded with the Asian Ladybugs, so time was limited during the day out there, but the gazebo came in handy. The evening sky and billions of stars was a wonderful thing to see. Everything we needed was supplied and May was a good communicator and easy to work with. It's easy to get to from the Twin Cities and some shopping is close by as well as a winery. We're hoping to book this for the same weekend next year! Thanks for sharing this beautiful space.
We stayed a week with friends and family coming and going during that time. Everyone was in amazement at the beauty of the home, property and lake. The amenities are second to none with the use of a fantastic pontoon to boot! The rate was incredibly competitive and we couldn't have asked for more. LOVED the experience! Thank you to the owner for their responsiveness and for offering this haven to others to enjoy!
9 friends stayed for 3 nights in January. Everything you could want, kitchen well stocked, bedding galore, comfy sleeping, awesome area for all to sit and visit. Went for walks, did yoga, talked to fishermen. Highly recommend. Owner very kind and responsive.
A group of us rented this beautiful home in August of this year and it is awesome! The home is well stocked with the owners being very generous and gracious with offering up personal things (spices, tp, paper towels, etc) We all loved it and would stay here again! The pontoon was awesome and we used it a lot! Excellent lake, not too large and we got enough fish for a fish fry one night! We would highly recommend this place to anyone! We will return!
