Spring and Summer weeks still open for 2017!
Our lake home is a beautiful year round home with a cabin feel but all of the amenities of a home. The home features knotty pine interior with wood floors and a large natural stone fireplace in the center of the cabin. The great room is 2 stories with a wall of windows facing the lake. The outside of the cabin is log.
There is a 55" TV with surround sound speakers in the great room. We have Direct TV and many DVDs. There is a second flat screen TV in the master bedroom. The great room has a large L shaped couch that seats up to 8 people and more seating and a game table. The sun room on the main level offers additional seating for relaxing.
The kitchen was recently remodeled with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. There are 3 barstools along the kitchen center island. The table in the kitchen seats up to 8.
Inside there are 4 bedrooms with the master bedroom (King) and guest room (2 twins) on opposite sides of the main level. Upstairs there are 2 more bedrooms, one with a queen log bed and the second 'kids' room with 2 twin beds, a trundle & full bed . The kids room is filled with games, toys and books. The loft area is open for extra sleeping (with a pull-out full bed) or relaxing. There are 2 bathrooms in the cabin. The main floor bath has a walk in shower and the 2nd floor bath has a tub/bath combination.
We have a huge front deck overlooking the lake. There are 2 dining tables on the deck with seating for 10. Additional comfortable seating across the front of the deck for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the AM or a book in the PM.
A gazebo is located off the side of the deck with a couch, chairs and table. This is a great space for quiet naps or for the kids to play games in.
The property is very private with a rare 450' of lake shore frontage with a huge sand beach in front of the cabin. The water is crystal clear all summer and the elevation is very gradual so it's ideal for children. We have a long dock that can be used for fishing or just sunning. There is also a fire pit on the beach with double swing chairs so enjoy the evenings outdoors.
We have a NEW 20' pontoon boat (seats 10) and 2 kayaks which are included in the rental. We also have beach toys and bikes for our renters to use.
There is a second refrigerator in the garage for overflow.
Shell Lake is a 2600 acre lake known for it's clean water & sandy beaches. All of the usual lake activities are available. There is a public landing in town so you can bring your boat along. There are bike trails around the lake and we have bikes and helmets for your use.
Please note that the City of Shell Lake recently passed an ordinance limiting the maximum # of occupants in a rental home to 10 so we cannot accommodate any groups larger than 10.

Our family built this cabin for our personal use in 1990. We have 2 girls and they enjoyed spending their summer weekends 'at the lake'. Since they are now grown and we no longer have the time to spend as much time there, we decided to share our lake home with others.
May Swenson purchased this cabin in 1990
We built on Shell Lake because it was within 2 hours of the Twin Cities and had crystal clear water with sandy beaches. We like the 'up north' feeling of the area and the local towns & attractions.
We have 2 extra lots on either side of the cabin so there is a lot of privacy. We try to stock the cabin so that all our guests need to bring is their clothes & food. We provide everything else. We hope that our guests will treat our cabin as they do their own homes. We have many returning families each year as we have become their summer vacation home.
My husband and I had been craving a weekend getaway to cure us from the monotony of winters in Minneapolis, and decided to book this cabin with another family. It was an amazing weekend, and the amenities of this cabin had a lot to do with that. We had 6 kids and 4 adults and it never felt crowded or like we were on top of each other. The owners of this cabin truly make it feel family-FRIENDLY--with a closet filled with toys and books and stuffed animals. Everything you could need for a weekend away from home but with all the comforts of your home were there. We cooked almost every meal in the cabin and never felt like we had to 'substitute' for something that wasn't there. From crock-pots to ziplocs, it was all there. We drove into Spooner one morning for a breakfast and had a great little outing. There were lots of things to do outside even in the winter. I can only imagine how fun this spot would be in the summer when you could use the fire-pit and water amenities. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a relaxing getaway. Also of note, we are from the Twin Cities and it was a SUPER easy drive!
A group of us Moms escaped the Twin Cities for a girls weekend and this place was perfect! The cabin had everything we needed and more. Cozy and comfortable accommodations and owner was great. Will definitely return!
When we booked this weekend, we were a little nervous because we were traveling with 6 kids ages 5 and under (and four adults). We didn't know how it would go but it was just PERFECT!! The layout of the house is absolutely ideal for multiple families and lots of little kids. They even have a closet full of toys from Barbies and legos to board games and Twister. It kept all the little ones busy and happy. We came here in teh winter months so didn't get to enjoy the boating or firepit but the kids loved walking out on the ice covered lake and going on many "exploring walks." The beds were awesome and the kitchen had everything we needed. The ONLY critique I have is that the stairs are a tiny bit steep so if you have a kid who is new to crawling and navigating stairs, you will just need to keep an eye on them or put up a barrier. Other than that, it was an absolutely perfect place to stay. If we can come back after 48 hours with six littles and still feel relaxed and refreshed...ANYONE can!!
This would be an amazing place to stay in the summer. Minor detail... Heat a little loud and uneven when it was very cold.
We have some good cooks and there were wonderful utensils and equipment for cooking and eating!!
Thanks for the great weekend!
The house had everything we needed for the weeks stay. The sleeping arrangements were great and the kids loved the area between the two bedrooms in the loft when they were told they needed to come in out of the sun for awhile.
The kitchen had everything we needed and the extra refrigerator in the garage was a blessing since three families coming together from different parts of the country came prepared with way too much food.
The beach and dock were great for all ages (5 to 66). We swan, fished, walked, biked, pontooned and relaxed. One son-in-law golfed 4 different golf courses. He was the only one who really left the property.
The wildlife was amazing. An eagle spent one whole morning in a tree on the property. We also saw deer, great blue herons, leopard frogs, Ospreys, and more.
Kayaking was wonderful as was the use of the pontoon. There was no real need to leave the property during the week. Coffee on the deck in the morning, grilling some really wonderful brats from Louie's Meats in Cumberland, s'mores down by the fire pit. It was just perfect, a vacation no one in our family will forget.
Friday morning as we prepared to leave I heard my 12 year old granddaughter say, while hugging the post in the kitchen "I love you cabin!"
We were thrilled when we walked into the cabin! The pictures above don't do this cabin justice - updated appliances, comfortable beds, great views, and an incredible fireplace as the centerpiece. 7 of ys stayed for 3 nights/4 days and couldn't have asked for a better experience. We had a great time and will definitely be coming back!
