Dont hire this property
A very poor experience.
Whilst the villa was clean it was very tired. The bedroom smelt of damp as soon as we got there so we had to wash the sheets and Duvet cover. Cristina said it was because these properties were not built to UK standards and the weather had been damp in Spain recently. They should have said don’t hire this property at the end of the season; we went in October. We had to phone Cristina on the first day or so to deal with an infestation of ants. Fortunately, the insecticide under the sink did the trick. The sofas were old and made a strange spring breaking sound when you sat on them. The TV looked like it was bought from a second-hand children’s toy store. It was so small. There was one wine glass and one flute and no reasonable sized cups for tea.
After a few days the cooker broke so we had to use the gas barbecue. The front door was a real problem. You could not lock it from the outside unless you put all your weight to push it shut. Cristina said they knew about the problem but were waiting until the end of season to fix it. But if my wife had been there with a group of friends, as she does some times, they would not have been able to lock the door. As it was at night you had to go out the patio door to lock the front door it because you could not pull it hard enough on the inside to make it lock.
The electricity went off almost daily but there were no instructions as to where the fuse panel was, so we had to ring her. We later found out from Cristina that she thought she had left these out on the English instruction but they were on the French ones. The final straw was getting an electric shock from the movable angle poise lamp; this is what was probably causing the electricity to go off. We decided to leave half way through our stay as we felt the house was not safe with the door locking, oven and electricity problems. We got half our costs refunded for this last week which was some help. We packed a picnic overnight and when we got up in the morning the ants were back and had completely infested our picnic cool bag so we had to through bag and picnic away.
Cristina would say we did we not contact her about these problems. Well we did. We must have called her about four or five times in that week to get problems fixed.
You really should not hire this place until it has had a major refurbishment. It is tired, damp in later season and currently not safe to stay in.
Well, it is not easy to respond to a destructive review like this. I could easily add: don't hire your property to these guests! People who look for problems all the time. Even if we were patient, reactive, listened and solved all their complaints, they were never satisfied. It is very sad for me how they have reinvented the facts to present them in a very fake way. I can review the points and say that the oven broke during their stay, but they forgot to add that the next day they had a new oven. One of the lamps, that was in the house for some years, it seems that suddenly had a problem and caused that sometimes the electricity went off. Once we discovered that the problem was caused by the lamp, it was removed and the problem was solved. The house is absolutely and definitively safe, and great to stay all year long: it is sunny, has good heating and duvets, and a nice fireplace. But this month of October has been awful, it has rained every single day. Normally this period is sunny and warm. We are not used to rain at all! So everything was wet outside and the ambiance in the area was very damp. It is true that houses in Spain are not as well isolated as in the U.K., but it is normal, since out of these punctual episodes of rain, it is not necessary at all. They were angry from the first day they arrived, since they came from the U.K. looking for sun and they only found rain. And then everything became a problem, and they started complaining about everything. The wooden door of the entrance was a little bit inflated by the rains and it was needed to push it a bit to close it. But as soon as the rains finished, the door was fine again. We are going to retouch it at the end of the season, but as it is a minor problem, we prefer to do it while the house is not rented. They also forgot to mention that at their arrival I invited them in a bar close to the sea, and I spent more than 1,30 hours sharing with them the best plans in the area to enjoy their vacations. After a week they decided to go looking for a sunnier place. And I refunded them for the days they had not spent in the house, even if our policies state the contrary, as we only want to be paid by the guests that can enjoy our charming house in lovely Tamariu
Good value family holiday house, convenient location
Conveniently located for exploring the Costa Brava. It’s very close to
all the beaches. Our favourite was platja del golfet at the other end of Calella de Palafrugell - down a lot of steps but well worth the walk & a gorgeous walk from there along the cami de Ronda to Calella or Llafranc - really recommend it.
The house is well-equipped for children (play mat, books galore & plenty of toys). The walk to the beach at Tamariu would be challenging as it is on a very long steep hill (& we willingly ditch the car usually!) but we found free parking at the bottom of the hill on the road in Tamariu & several free car parks that were slightly further out in Llafranc & Calella. The swimming pool was excellent (we were the only people there when we went!), and the house is spacious & comfortable. Only downsides were that they could do with some slightly thicker/ plumper pillows in the bedrooms & a small sharp knife & a slightly larger grater in the kitchen but that’s nitpicking. Cooking oil & salt & pepper as well as washing equipment & plenty of loo roll were all provided which was very helpful. Also had a blender which was great for cooking food for our weaning 8 month old.
Overall great location & a comfortable week.
Beautiful and relaxing atmosphere – Tamariu with all lovely surroundings we simply loved it!
We loved our stay in this region. Tamariu, SA Tuna, Begur and many other places nearby all with a genuine and rustic atmosphere.
The house was really nice and perfect for a family up to five. High level of service commitment from the host Christina.
We will for sure visit this region once again.
Lovely space and lovely area to explore
had an absolutely brilliant family holiday. The living area is plenty big enough with all the amenities we needed. Would recommend having use of a vehicle as the surrounding areas are wonderful to explore, Cristina was very helpful in recommending things to see and do when we met for an hour. Wonderful holiday one to remember.
Toni sam and baby Joel.
Lovely house for family
Thank you Cristina for this lovely week in your house! We loved your tips about the restaurants and beaches in Tamariu. The house was perfect for us, a family of 5! (kids age 13-12-12) It was clean and everything we needed was there. Even toys and games for the kids. We enjoyed Tamariu very much but also Pallafrugel, llafranc, Pals and Begur. Everything to be reached by car in less than 20 min! Swimming snorkeling kayaking or diving from a diving board into the beautiful blue tamariu sea it's all there!!
Tamariu bay is also nice for its restaurants ( tapas). Parking for one of the lovely bays could be busy but if it's full you can always choose for another beautiful costa brava bay.
I think we will return we miss it already!
Tamariu has 2 small supermarkets that sell very good fruit and vegetables, bakeries, shops and bars (most with free wifi). But the best are the numerous restaurants. People come from afar to taste their excellent paella, seafood on the beach. A unique experience.
In Tamariu there is a diving center and one kayak. You can also rent boats, with or without title.
There are several golf courses in quality around Tamariu. The nearest Pals (12 km).
The area is Tamariu is of exceptional interest. The best beaches of the Costa Brava are around, and most of the interior towns are medieval, some declared a historic-artistic. And if we add the excellent cuisine of the area, gives us the ideal place to spend a few days rest.
Palafrugell is 5 km of Tamariu, and is where we find all the services: pharmacies, large supermarkets, an excellent daily market with the best local products, healthcare, film, theater and other shops.
