I discovered this special property 15 years ago while visiting from out of town, and am the second owner since 1926. Spent many years restoring the multi level Craftsman compound and planting all the tropical gardens. The property was ripe for a major Make Over -- had great bones and a terrific location -- just steps from Balboa Park -- San Diego's own 1200 acre Central Park.

Located between lively Hillcrest and trendy North Park, this park adjacent community has charming bungalows, beautiful gardens, with quick access to major freeways and the International Airport.

The location: 20 to 30 minutes from the airport, close to Balboa Park, Petco Park and The Convention Center. Old Town, Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter and Coronado are a very short drive from the unit. Best of all you will find restaurants of all price ranges within a few blocks.
Take a 25 minute ride up route 5 to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve for a short or long hike with wonderful views, and if you visit in the summer there's a great beach there too.
The accommodations: clean, comfortable, well equipped and the garden and terrace are just spectacular!
Kent the owner lives on the property and is available or not depending on your needs and wants. Service before and during our stay was A+.

Very nice property close to the Zoo, Balboa Park and minutes from everything else in San Diego. Rental had everything we needed to cook meals and plenty of great restaurants nearby for those days you don't feel like cooking. Relaxing atmosphere, nice patio to enjoy an evening outdoors. Owner was great, very responsive and easy to work with. We would definately stay there again.
Excellent apartment with an efficient and easygoing owner and an outstanding garden. Great location: quiet, and spending time outside is positively tranquil. The apartment is spacious and comfortable and very well set up - you could easily live here permanently. It really does feel like a tropical hideaway, and we lived 25 years in Hawaii and know what this means. We want to return when I'm not in an orthopedic boot so we can explore the area more.
My sister and I just stayed at this vacation rental and we were just THRILLED with the home!!!!!!!! Kent was so friendly and made us feel completely comfortable and welcome!! The location was just outstanding and we felt like everything we wanted to see was within 10-15 minutes by car. The tropical garden that he has created made this rental a tropical garden oasis!!! The rental felt so safe, was very clean, and we just loved the veranda where we enjoyed our breakfasts and late afternoon drinks! We will definitely be telling our family and friends (well, maybe not since we want the place available for us ;~)) about this place and absolutely want to return. This is the third time that I have stayed at one of Kent's properties. Each time I love it more and more. It feels like home. This past time we stayed in the lower unit and my son stayed in the upper unit. We love both properties. The grounds are beautiful and you can see that he takes pride in his grounds. The location is great. You are close to HillCrest and Northpark, the Zoo, Balboa and my favorite beach, Coronado Beach. We love coming back to his property. You feel safe and the neighborhood is very nice. You can park right in front of your unit, and it is steps to the locked gate. The furnishings are beautiful, and if I could of taken the mattress back to Buffalo, I would of. In fact, I looked to see what kind it was!!!! Having the washer and dryer in the unit is great, less to pack. We look forward to returning again, Kent is a wonderful host, and we love going to his properties. Once you stay with him, you will NEVER go to a hotel.
I've been staying at Kent's property for more than six years. On a recent visit I was delighted to find that he'd completely updated the Terrace unit: fresh light-colored paint, new wall-to-wall carpeting and area rugs, a wonderfully cushy sofa, and a new entrance gate with vine-covered arbor. The sunlight and garden views are as glorious as ever, and Kent remains the best of hosts!
1200 acre Balboa Park -- one of the most beautiful city parks in the US, is just two houses away.... You can stroll the Park or borrow bikes.... to access the world famous Zoo, visit the numerous museums, theatres, including the Old Globe Playhouse, see Imax feature films at the Planetarium, listen to outdoor concerts from the Spreckles Pavilion featuring the largest outdoor organ in the world, and enjoy the acres of specialty gardens, the Prado Restaurant, arboretum, and so much more....

Stays of a month or longer are exempt from the Transient Occupancy Tax. For shorter stays -- City charges 10.5% Tax which we are required to collect.
50% Deposit by personal check then balance due in cash, bank check, or traveler's checks at time of arrival.
