Delightful village house in the heart of St. Remy de Provence. Explore the surrounding area during the day and come home to relax at home during the evening. Walk to everything! Museums, shopping, cafes and restaurants, outdoor market. St. Remy is one of the most picturesque villages in Provence with a glorious history from Roman times to Van Gogh, who spent a year here in an institution while painting some of his most famous paintings. This area is known for fruit and vegetable gardens and seeds were cultivated here in the 19th century.
This home has ample room for up to 6 people, with 3 fully furnished bedrooms. Enjoy cooking goodies found in the outdoor markets in the large eat-in kitchen and sample area wines and cheeses on the outdoor terrace with rooftop views.
After a junior year abroad in Aix-en-Provence, owning a house in Provence was my dream.
Many years after this year, my husband and I realized my dream in buying this house.
We chose St. Remy because it is centrally located for touring, and a village of medium size, with all necessary services.
We know that you will love visiting here!
Pati Ogden purchased this house in 2000
We find St. Remy to be a village with a life after the tourist season, so, unlike other smaller villages, there are always shops and restaurants open, even in winter.
We find the location ideal for touring Provence.
And of course, the beauty of the area is absolutely incredible! No wonder Van Gogh painted so many of his famous works here!
Ideal for touring during the day, then coming 'home' to relax and either cook a delicious provencal dinner, or walk to one of the many restaurants close by.
Enjoy a game of foosball on the antique foosball table on the ground floor!
Chill out on the terrasse with a great local wine.
We stayed five nights at this charming multi-level home in the heart of St. Remy. What I appreciated is that the house was as described in the listing -- no surprises, which is always a huge plus! Plenty of room for this family of four with two teenagers wanting a bit of space to themselves.
Be prepared for some steps -- as this is a multi-level home. It didn't bother us, but if you had any mobility issues, it might be an issue. Nice large kitchen, sunny terrace, a gathering spot to chat all together at the end of the day and two nicely equipped bathrooms made for a pleasant stay. Also, there is a first-floor washing machine which helps for longer stays.
We would happily stay here again as the location was outstanding. Helen, the housekeeper also ensured we knew where to park our rental car as there is no parking available on the street where the home is. That also was a nice touch.
We visited in late March/early April and it was still chilly, but there were multiple portable heaters to take any chill out of the areas. Be sure to visit the Wednesday market in the heart of the village.
Happy to answer any questions -- we enjoyed our stay thoroughly.
an 8 day stay afforded us a lower level of cool temperature and storage. we kept our wine there and it was perfect. then there are two bedrooms which we enjoyed and were comfortable for sleeping at night. sometimes with the fan. then another flight up the livingroom, kitchen and outdoor terrace where we dined many a night. and friends slept on the top level with the skylight open! fun fun fun.
the town is fabulously charming.... rate this a ten!
My wife, son and myself thoroughly enjoyed our week in this house in St. Remy. The house is spread over 4 floors with each having its own character and beautiful art (entry way, master bed and bath, living/dining/kitchen, and loft.) My son wanted the loft of course and we were in the master bedroom. By european standards this was a VERY spacious house. There was a fair amount of up and down stair-climbing with no real handrails--but nothing we couldn't handle. The location is first-rate with easy access to a multitude of restaurants, patisseries, cheese shops, etc.(not to mention easy driving distance to many cities and villages in Provence.) I would not hesitate to recommend this to any party with up to 6 people. We feel very lucky to have found it.
We had a great experience from initially contacting the owners, to meeting the property manager and staying in the apartment. It is the perfect location, right in the old part of the city, five minutes from great shops, restaurants and a grocery store. St Remy is small and feels safe and friendy but is centrally located for visiting Arles, Avignon, Aix-en Provence and so many other areas. The apartment made us feel like we were (almost) natives, sipping wine on the deck before strolling to dinner. The furnishings and the artwork are warm and inviting. You should be pretty fit because there are several flights of stairs. While you're in St. Remy, be sure to visit Glanum, a restored Roman town, a short walk away. It was amazing. If you love seafood, there's a great restaurant on the main road around the old city, Chez Gus. We were worried it would be touristy, but the food was great and the staff very friendly.
Excellent accommodations in a great site! Parking is two blocks away. The Wednesday market is great and this year (our second trip) we were there for the "moving the sheep" festival. Lots of fun at a restaurant on the street.
Need to be able to walk upstairs - two flights max.
Wifi is a great addition since our last visit.
This was exactly what we were looking for. Located right in the middle of this amazing village, this was the place to be. Steps away from all of the wonderful things Saint Remy has to offer (restaurants, shopping, museums). By living in this house we had the opportunity to meet local people and business owners, walk down to the local "boulangerie" for "pain au chocolat" every morning, to the amazing street market (on Wednesdays) and evening "aperitif" at one of the local bistro where, in no time, we became friends with the owners. Mademoiselle Carole provided an impeccable reception and made herself available to tend to every need we had. The house is cozy and well equipped. It could comfortably fit six people, although there is only one full bath. The stairs connecting the three floors are quite steep, but it wasn't a problem for us. A nice feature is the small open-air terrace on the roof that made our dinners even more pleasant.
The booking process was made easy by the owner's availability to provide all necessary information in a timely manner. Upon arrival, we realized that the owner had described the property accurately and we found exactly what we ecpected.
All in all we would recommend renting this property to anyone who wants to be in touch with the people of Saint Remy and does not have a problem with climbing stairs.
Our home is in the very historic center of St. Remy on a quiet pedestrian street, but within immediate access to everything the village has to offer. You'll love wandering the streets and soaking up the local life.
The region has almost unlimited activities to suit your interests, from local markets, history galore, and beauty everywhere!
