About Rob & Candy Lockwood
We’ve always gravitated to the water…especially the ocean. We even got married in the Florida Keys on a sailboat as the sun was setting. It’s seems to have always been that way. My wife grew up on the South Shore of Long Island and spent her free time at the beach on Fire Island. I have lived a good deal of my life on an island in Florida. We are currently landlocked in Winston Salem NC and this cottage gives us a way to get back to the beach more often.
Rob & Candy Lockwood purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Rob & Candy Lockwood chose West Beach
Kiawah is like no other place we've ever visited. It has a unique feel and we love the 'low country' pace. We go everywhere by bicycle and typically don't leave the island once we've arrived.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have created some wonderful family memories on Kiawah. Our girls learned to ride bicycles, kayak and hunt for wildlife on Kiawah…and they also developed a love for ice cream as the shop is just a short bike ride away. Each season offers something different and our family was surprised to find out that we enjoyed the fall and winter months as much as we do spring and summer. No matter when you plan on visiting, we know you will fall in love with Kiawah Head too.

Mickey's Kiawah Trip
We had an awesome week at 46! The house was perfect for our family including our 9 month old grandson. Enjoyed the pool and the beach. The Turtle Point Golf Club was a great day and the drive into Charleston to visit the Aquarium and the Market was easy to do.
We hope to be back soon. Thanks for a fantastic week.

Charming house in great location
This was our 4th year staying at this house and it continues to be an outstanding experience! We love the location with the view of the tidal river and easy walk to Beachwalker beach. The house is always immaculate and charmingly decorated. Rob Lockwood is the best! He is wonderfully responsive, helpful and caring. This year we had both illness and car problems all throughout the visit and he was available by phone and email to help us sort out our issues...he even sent us a bottle of wine because he felt bad for us! Also have to give kudos to the staff at the front desk of Kiawah villas who also were a great help. We look forward to coming back next year so we can enjoy the ambiance of Kiawah and the surrounding low country while relaxing in a truly lovely home.
We Love This Place!
This is not the first time we stayed at the Lockwood's cottage on the Kiawah River. The cottage itself is top notch. Clean and well appointed with everything anyone could need. The kitchen is outfitted for a talented chef or a home cook. Beds are comfortable and the common areas are beautiful. Always clean when we arrive. And that view off the back of the cottage is amazing. The river looks different hour by hour and the sunsets are stunning. The location is great too - a bike ride away from Freshfields and a quick walk to the beach. My family never leaves the island once we arrive and are always sad when we have to check out. This is the one vacation my family looks forward to each year.
We had a really great time! Loved the view of the river.
We really enjoyed our stay at Inlet cove. We got to go on a kayaking tour with two of my grand daughters down the river where we saw dolphin swimming in the river. We also had a blast on the beach and at the water parks. The house was clean and spacious and we enjoyed the screened in porch. so glad we brought our binoculars for birdwatching! I only had one issue with this Villa, there were no locks on the bathroom doors.
Wonderful Family time!!
My family of 4 (2 young children) have been visiting Kiawah for the past 3 years. This was our first time staying at this cottage, and we specifically chose it because of the resort amenities (which are a must for us! our kids love the Night Heron Pool!). I must say, we were so pleased to have the resort amenities, but underestimated all the other perks of this particular cottage and location! We watched the sunset almost every night at the dock, talked to fishermen, saw wildlife....watched dolphins. We rode our bikes the short distance to the beach often. We spent countless hours on the back porch listening to music and enjoying the scenery. The kitchen is excellently equipped, and the beds are all very comfortable. For 2 nights, we had grandparents visit, and even with 6 people, we were not crowded at all. The living room is very comfortable and easily accommodated the whole group. Rob was very helpful during the booking process and throughout, providing recommendations on things to do and restaurants to visit. We look forward to renting this cottage again.
Great family unwind time
Husband, 2 kids (10 and 14), parents and I went to old stomping ground of Kiawah Island this month. While things have changed greatly in the last 30 years, the experience was still a great one!
The villa was perfect in size for the 6 of us. Cozy and comfortable living space for gathering together and enough bedrooms to spread out if quiet down time was needed. Loved the location of being a short walk to the beach, having a river view, and just steps away from the nice pool and awesome dock at Inlet Cove. Wooded area surrounding the villa was lovely and the shaded screened-in porch perfect for feeling like you were out in nature without the hassle of bugs.
Rob was very helpful with recommendations for rentals, restaurants, shortcuts to the beach and such. We loved biking around, grabbing bites from The Market, writing gator and deer sighting updates on the Nature Preserve board and hunting shells on the beach. Best was probably our boat rental which led to a shark catching, sand dollar finding, crabbing experience that the whole family enjoyed.
We would return to this Villa tomorrow if we could. Thanks, Rob!
Kiawah is a paradise for children. It’s nestled within 10,000 acres of maritime forests and tidal marshes and is one of the East Coast’s most secluded stretches of beach. Nature is Kiawah’s most alluring asset. Enjoy an abundance of things to do, including 30 miles of paved biking and hiking trails that wind through parks and nature preserves. The 10 miles of beach, the Nature Center, Night Heron Park with its basketball and soccer fields are all close by. At night, chase crabs on the beach or look for shooting stars. Kayak, swim, boogie board, build sand castles, hunt for star fish and sand dollars or go for a bike ride on the beach at sunrise.
