Burnt Hill Farm, County Durham
Top class accommodations; as the place has only been open just over a year, all the fixtures & fittings are new and thus the place is very clean to. We stayed in the 2 bed cottage & its a great feature to have each of the 2 large bedrooms upstairs have its own fully equipped master bathroom. Plenty of room also in each bedroom; not the cramped feeling you get in a hotel. The open plan living area on the ground floor is marvelous & having a "powder" room there is a great convenience. Nice touches like farm fresh eggs (not free but very inexpensive) & free firewood is you want to get the log burner going. The host, Jayne, was great & easy going. One has to remember though, this is a working farm, so be prepared to have sheep wandering around (among other things). At the moment there is no Wifi, but its something they're working on. Mind you it was nice to be "unplugged" & the quiet was refreshing.
You'll need a car to go to get groceries etc etc, but this is a good location to see the surrounding sights. Durham itself only a 25-30 min drive away, Newcastle about the same, even Edinburgh is reachable in 2-2 1/2 hours or Alnwick Castle about 1 1/2 - 2 hours away.
Much better than a hotel. Would definitely recommend.
A perfect property for visiting Durham
This property was even better then expected! Owners were wonderful hosts! Fresh flowers, eggs, bread, milk, and treats were there upon arrival. House recently underwent refurbishment so everything is brand new. We had a look at all properties on site and all are lovely, no detail went unnoticed. I love that both rooms have own bathroom with private shower and tub.All rooms have t.v.s with built in dvd players, there are also toys for children. I cant say enough good about property, we definitely enjoyed our stay!
